Summary
Draco Malfoy is arrogant and he knows it. He’s unapologetic about it. Flaunts his pureblood status in just about every sentence. He also loves to abuse his father’s name, constantly being heard saying, “my father will hear about this!” What everyone doesn’t know, is how deeply he can care and how hard he falls when he is in love. No one knows that, except Hermione Granger. The day she was attacked by the Basilisk, Draco realized just how much he needed her around to better himself in class. Without her, there was no challenge. Teasing Potter and Weasley wasn’t even fun unless Granger was around for it.
So, unbeknownst to everyone but the healer, Draco visited Hermione every day she was in the hospital, telling her about classes and how boring it was without her and how terrible he felt about how he was treating her beforehand. He had no idea she could hear and even retain everything he was saying.
When Draco disappears after The Battle of Hogwarts, Hermione makes it her mission to bring him home and show him that he has something to come back to.

In other words, Draco goes on the run to avoid his trial and his past enemies make it their business to bring him home.
