Work Text:

It’s always strange when Suna Rintarou doesn’t have a phone in hand, even more so when he doesn’t seem stressed out about it’s absence. But here he is sat in a cafe, with an iced americano masking the obscene concoction of syrups caked at the bottom of his cup, hunched over his laptop seemingly engrossed in whatever assignment he had been given.

It was a rare sight to see him be so deeply invested in school work, but seeing as his usual partner in quiet judgement be here today he had to do something else occupy his time. And it seemed becoming a model student will tide him over until Osamu’s return.

Miya Osamu has gotten himself grounded, it happened every now and again seeing as the twin often found himself resolving conflicts with his fist before thinking. And lord knows his mother would never allow a child of hers to make a tit of himself without implimenting the proper discepline.

This time was no different.

The crime; letting his twin provoke him to the point of attack in a public place.

The punishment; no kitchen time, no excursions to outdoor eateries and also no phone

Notice how one of these thing are not like the other, and usually Osamu would have been perfectly content without his phone but that changed alongside his relationship with Suna, they weren’t quite anything as for yet but it didn’t take a genius to know they were going to be and an unfortunate side affect came the increasing dependence on the other’s presence even if it wasn’t physical.

In other words, when they texted, called, video messaged whenever they weren’t in proximity.

And for the first week of Osamu’s punishment things seemed normal, the Inarizaki volleyball team were still able to practice together, so no dampers on team cohesion. But Aran the dependable upperclassman he was couldn’t help but be concerned, he’d not heard a single complaint from anyone.

Not Suna.

Not Osamu.

Not Atsumu.

Not Madame MIya.

And as the go to therapist friend it was welcome break, though worry did linger.

“What’s got you so into studying?” Aran asked taking a sip of his tea, warm and comforting, he was prepared for stress to seep in so opted to calm his nerves in advance.

Suna’s eyes remained on his laptop screen as he typed away, the continuous clicks on the keyboard were rhythmic with regular pauses, “Algebra.” he said plainly.

‘Okay, so he’s lying.’ was what Aran thought, and frankly the 3rd year couldn’t be bothered to question it so for his own peace of mind he’ll just leave it.

“You guys didn’t have homework.”

Unfortunately Atsumu could never sit back and let Aran know peace.

The blonde moved to look over at Suna’s laptop screen, before could get a good look Suna elbowed him and closed his laptop. “If you want my work you’ve gotta pay me for it.”

Atsumu scoffed, “I’m marked higher than you, i’m not paying nothing.”

“Exactly.  so mind your business.” Suna stated before opening his laptop once more and continued typing.

The rest of their time at the cafe was largely uneventful, though with stack of finished pastry plates they left behind and the empty display cases at least left the owners happy.

During the second week of Osamu’s punishment, Atsumu thought to be a good and generous brother bringing him some treats from from the place he’d gone with the team whilst Osamu was had to go straight home for his crimes.

The blonde expected to find his brother camped outside of the kitchen like usual, but to his surprised he was absent from his spot. Atsumu found him in their shared room back turned to the door engrossed into whatever was on his his laptop.

That was odd. Samu wasn’t really that into games and his use of social media was limited at most. though, Atsumu supposed that the boredom probably found him looking for new ways to entertain himself.

It seemed that Osamu still hasn’t noticed his twin's arrival still completely focused on what whatever he was doing on the computer. Atsumu wasn’t a particularly stealthy mover but instead of walking up to see what Osamu was doing he felt it was probably best to not to push his luck.

Too far.

He was moving as quietly as he could once he was close enough he tried to look at the screen, at a glance it looked like he use a google document.

Strange. What could he even be working on?

Before he could see any further the tab minimised, and Osamu swivelled around in his chair.

“What?”

Masking how startled he was by the sudden address Atsumu pouted. “Not even a hello? After i get you something to eat that isn’t plain rice?” he raised the bag of pastries in his hand shaking them slightly.

The grey haired twin only raised an eyebrow, “you didn’t have to.” but still took the bag from his brother and started eating.

“I know, i’m just a great older brother making sure that even in punishment his baby brother is okay.”

Osamu paused his eating, “What do you want?”

Atsumu noticed how his brother was slowly turning back to face the screen, his hands inching back towards the keyboard.

Very strange.

“What were you working on a second ago?”

Osamu’s not so slow movements stopped as he furrowed his brows, thinking of something to say, “Algebra.” he lied like a liar.

The blonde scowled, “okay fine! Don’t tell me!” he was moving to exit. “Don’t expect any more pastries from me.” before closing the door behind himself.

—---

Osamu sighed before maximising the google doc once more and reading through it.

Helloo?

Samu??

Sammy???

nooo don’t ignore meee !! | Anonymous Tibetanfox

Osamu smiled before typing;

Sorry still here

The clone was here

Ignore you? I could never.

Two weeks ago not even three hours into being grounded Osamu began to notice the gap left by notice have instant access to bother his best friend, yes his mother let him use the computer he shared with his twin but there was only so much privacy he could have talking over social media, it didn’t help that he kept forgetting his passwords and when he saw the recovery questions he realised it was more likely he’d get locked out of those accounts for good.

Not to worry though, because if there’s one thing he could always count on, it was that Suna would figure out a way to stay in contact.

After Osamu’s second attempt to log into his account he saw he’d received an email notification, and he was pretty certain who it was from.

And they continued talking until all hour of the morning, mostly discussing nonsense and just talking for the sake of hearing the others thoughts, it was comfortable, it was natural.

Osamu barely noticed how quickly his punishment was passing.

—--

Atsumu was not stupid.

Osamu had to leave the computer desk at some point, and when he left for the toilet Atsumu saw his window of opportunity.  Once he saw that his brother closed the door behind him Atsumu raced to their room and sat himself in front of their computer.

‘Silly Samu, leaving you left your tags open~’ the blonde thought, he saw the google doc nothing too out of the ordinary. And then he saw someone else editing.

Wait did you leave already?

No !

To say that Atsumu was horrified would be an understatement, it didn’t take genius to realise that it was Suna on the other side of the screen and honestly Atsumu wished he could go back to a couple of seconds ago before he’d read anything.

He left the room before Osamu came back. As weird as it was he was happy to see they would go to for each.

And yet they had the audacity to not be officially together yet.

A travesty. But also none of his business as of right now.

Atsumu hears his twin, go back to their room, and smiles slightly he reaches for his phone and types a quick text.

U 2 r so gross

But if u hurt ill kill u

Aww look at tsumtsum being so protective

But samu likes pain tho ;p

Atsumu decided that for now he’ll choose peace and delete that entire interaction from his memory.
