Work Text:

The halls of Wayne Manor were empty of all. Just Bruce wandered through them looking at all the bits left throughout. He wasn't really sure what had made him want to wander down the halls but there he was walking. The hall he was on was the one that held all his various children's bedrooms.

They were all empty at the time, all the kids having moved on and out to their own homes around the city. But just because they were gone did not mean that their presence was not felt. He hadn't changed a thing in any of their rooms from the day they left. He couldn't bare to. The rooms would be ready any time one of them needed them.

He opened the door that was closest to the rest of the house, and where Bruce's own room was. It was Dick's. When he had first moved in Dick was so scared of everything and uncertain that he had kept having nightmares. So him being close to Bruce was important. There were more times than Bruce would be able to count that Dick had shown up in his room after a nightmare.

He could still see signs of the little kid in the room left behind. The circus posters were still there and the band ones that had come with the teen years. There were the toys that had been collected mixed in with batarangs and other equipment that shouldn't have ever left the cave.

It made Bruce smile thinking of the kid who had become a man he couldn't be more proud of.

He closed the door again and walked down the hall. Stopping at each door and looking in at what his kids had left behind. Even the ones that hadn't been his to keep.
