Work Text:
Adam fell back on his ass as the spear swung towards his neck.
Beneath the roc disguise, he could see Lilith’s smug smile. She tilted up the beak so she could see better as the wind rustled the brown and white speckled feathers cascading down her back, entwined with her long blonde hair.
The hide covering her chest to thighs was like his, dark brown fur hiding what they now knew to be ashamed of.
“Have you finally decided to steal my husband, Adam?” She twirled the spear with precision and thunked the end into the ground. “Best be careful. He’s small, but he’d be happy to make you his wife. Lucifer always did like you.”
Adam glared, “Go to hell. I wanted to see if you two wanted to join Eve and I on a big hunt for a bit, but I’ve changed my mind.”
“Eve is pregnant again, isn’t she?” Lilith reached out a hand with a frown. “She shouldn’t be hunting.”
He took it and let her help him back up. “That’s why I wanted to join up. I want to kill something big so we can have enough meat to last, and I don’t have to go far once the baby is born.”
“Can I come out now, Lil? It’s just Adam!” Lucifer poked his head out from behind a rock.
Lilith’s shoulders slumped a little, and she sighed, “Since he knows you’re here now, I guess.”
The last couple of years hadn’t been easy on the fallen angel. His hair was wild, the once always clean angel was dirty, and he looked as skinny as the rest of them. Last Adam had seen of Lucifer was around when they figured out Eve was expecting again, and they traded some extra furs for some extra fish Lilith had. He still wore some of his robe from back then, but what was left of his robe was being used to hold something.
The something cried out, and Lucifer bounced and shushed it.
“A baby?!” Adam couldn’t stop himself from shouting suddenly and turned to Lilith, “I thought you didn’t want kids.”
Lilith shrugged, “I didn’t want kids with you. I don’t mind if they’re his.”
From behind a bush, Eve popped out, “ohhh I want to see the baby!” She held the barely toddling Cain on her hip. One of his legs was thrown over her large belly.
Lucifer gasped and dashed over to Eve. “He’s so big now!” He pulled out a yawning little newborn girl, and the two of them cooed over her little red spots and how Cain’s eyes were turning the same shade of amber as Adam’s.
He looked at Lilith, and they shared the same exasperated look. “You sure he’s the husband?”
“… I’m really not. He gave birth.”
“But,” Adam looked between the two, “I’ve seen you naked. How?”
Lilith shrugged again. “I have no idea. Our best guess is that when heaven cursed me to be unable to give birth, it backfired, and I can sire children now.”
“… So do you have a-“
“No!” She interrupted and smacked his shoulder. “Everything is normal. Just one day we noticed he was getting bigger around the waist, and then he felt the baby kick. She’s only about a quarter of a moon turn old. How long until Eve…?”
"Uhhh, not sure. Soon. Less than a moon’s turn. He was pregnant then last we saw you.”
She nodded. “had to have been.”
They lapsed into quiet, and their spouses chatted.
Lilith tensed, and Adam heard it too. A crunch in the undergrowth, a snuffling, the musky scent of a predator.
The spear Lilith held at her side swung into an attack position. Adam pulled out his club. Together they got between the noise and their families.
From the underbrush a large head appeared and rose, and rose, and rose. The beast stood nearly twice as tall as he and Lilith. When it opened its maw to roar, Adam couldn’t help but notice that most of Eve could probably fit inside of it.
That thought distracted him, and he could only freeze as a paw swept towards them.
He closed his eyes and braced for an impact that never came.
A sharp cry of a baby came from behind him, and when he opened his eyes, some winged monster was twisting the beast's neck and tearing as the beast bellowed in pain.
As the body of the great beast fell away, Adam took in the winged monster. Six blood-red and white wings, the glowing red eyes, and red horns. It dropped the head, and its eyes returned to normal.
Lucifer flew into Lilith’s arms and kissed her dropped jaw. “Are you okay, Lilith, my love? I was so scared it was going to hurt you.” He nuzzled happily into her shocked body.
The baby cried, and the changed angel appeared human again as he rushed to pick the baby up from Eve.
“Are you hungry?”
Adam noticed for the first time the small mounts on Lucifer’s chest as Lucifer held the girl to nurse.
He looked at the great beast. The meat would last them, and the hide could easily keep them all warm. Adam kept his hands busy by getting to work. Lilith soon fell into step with him to separate the hide from the meat and start preparing to save as much as they could.
“Eve, no. You’re pregnant.” Lucifer stopped Eve from coming to assist. “Once Charlotte is done, I’ll help them. You rest as best you can and watch the kids, okay?”
Adam was grateful that Lucifer stopped her. This pregnancy was hard on Eve.
This was going much faster though, with even just Lilith. Eve tired so quickly, and Cain needed so much attention that she couldn’t help much in preparing meat or hides.
“We should join camps.”
Lilith never paused in her work. “You said you didn’t want anything to do with us after we were thrown out of Eden.”
He snorted. "Yeah, but we’ve been trading and working together on occasion for years. I didn’t think your husband would end up being useful. Just another mouth to feed when I already had Eve and another on the way.”
“And now you think he’s useful?” Her voice was so smug, and he hated it, but he bit his tongue and tone.
“Yes. Even with just you, this is going much faster. I was angry back then and thought I could do it better alone.” Adam barely kept from puking as some gases were released by accident. “Ugh. Nasty. But we’ve had to trade and such anyway; it’s obvious you two can have kids as well, so our kids could marry. And I’m starting to think we’d work better as a group. He’d be able to protect Eve and both of our children better than we can, it seems.”
Lilith had on that stupid, teasing smile he hated. “You could also likely get him pregnant.”
“What?” Adam stopped working to look at her. His cheeks were red from more than the bear’s blood. “What are you talking about? I have a wife.”
“Who says you can’t have more?”
“Ah, heaven?”
She snorted. “The same heaven that stole my husband’s halo and tore the feathers from his wings? The same heaven that cast us all out? They can be damned to the pit of evil.”
“Still-“
“You think Eve would want to have sex with me?” Lilith asked suddenly. “I’ve always thought she was pretty. Maybe I could sire a few babies with her too.”
He tensed and wanted to argue, but she gave him that teasing smile.
“Only half joking. I wouldn't do it behind you and Lucifer’s backs. But if I got some yes’. I wouldn’t mind expanding my palate. You could have a turn at Lucifer too. He does like you. Perhaps almost as much as he likes me.”
The idea of Lucifer on his back and under him was a good one. Eve and Lucifer pregnant with his babies sounded nice. He didn’t even mind the idea of Eve and Lilith together. Sounded good to his dick.
“If we join camps, I’m sure something can be arranged.”
Lilith smiled and called out over her shoulder. “Adam and I were thinking we could join camps. Especially with winter coming in a few months. It would be good to settle somewhere warmer, and it would be easier to hunt and find food. What do you two think?”
Eve and Lucifer were already cuddling and cooing over each other’s babies. So they readily agreed.
She held out a blood-soaked hand to Adam, and Adam took it. “Who knows. Maybe this time next year Lucifer will be giving birth to your baby while Eve is pregnant with mine.”
Adam looked over at their smaller mates. He liked that idea. He liked that idea a lot.
