Chapter 1: An Announcement

Chapter Text

BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!

The blaring sound of Peter’s alarm clock flooded the room, a quite drastic change from the peace and tranquility from mere moments prior.

Ever since the incident, which was referred to as Civil War by the media, it seemed as though the crime rate in New York had been slowly increasing. That, of course, was not exactly stellar for Peter’s already messed up sleep schedule.

The previous night, Peter’s daily patrolling as the infamous vigilante, Spider-Man, had run late. He had arrived home at 3:01, and hadn’t been able to actually fall asleep until 3:47. This was due to the fact there had been three attempted robberies in a row. First a convenience store, then a bank, as well as a bakery.

Peter groaned, slowly getting up from his bed. He glanced at the alarm clock beside him, which was displaying 7:15 in a vibrant red hue. Fuck , Peter thought to himself, I hit the snooze button again . School began at 7:30, and it would take him seven minutes to arrive there, even with the advantage of swinging.

Peter rapidly brushed his teeth, and his outfit essentially consisted of the first thing he viewed in his closet. He looked up at the clock. It was 7:18, meaning he had exactly 5 minutes to eat breakfast and leave. Peter wished he could simply skip the first meal of the day, as a means to save time, but his Aunt May had refused after discovering his accelerated metabolism.

“I can’t have my Spider-Baby starving, can I,” she explained.

The brown-haired teen rushed out of his bedroom and into the kitchen. There, he glimpsed at his Aunt May, and a bowl of Lucky Charms standing in front of him.

“May, why didn’t you wake me up sooner, I’m going to be late!,” whined Peter.

“Sorry Pete, but I thought we agreed you were going to stop hitting the snooze button a million times,” replied May, in a joking tone.

Peter ate the cereal as quickly as he could, but unfortunately, it still took him eight entire minutes. Shit, this is the 3rd time this week, and it’s only Thursday , Peter acknowledged in his mind, I am so getting detention .

As he headed for the door, he heard his aunt exclaim.

“Larb you Pete!”

“Larb you too, May!”

-------------Time Skip (Decathlon Practice)------------- 🕸️🕷✮⋆˙

The school day had passed surprisingly uneventful. Flash and his goons hadn’t made any snide comments relating to him or his friends, and Peter didn’t even get detention. He honestly considered it one of the best school days he had experienced since Flash began talking his obnoxious shit, as MJ would voice.

Peter should have known that the universe wouldn’t be that pleasant to him for eternity, as Mr. Harrington waltzed into the library, prepared for Decathlon Practice, with a grin as enormous as Jupiter exhibited on his face.

Mr. Harrington clapped his hands, gathering the attention of the AcaDeca Team.

“I have a very exciting announcement to make today!,” the teacher beamed, joy practically radiating off of him.

“We are taking a field trip to…Stark Tower!”

The entire team gasped, and then immediately started chatting about the upcoming trip.

“What if we meet Tony Stark?”

“What if we get to see where the Avengers lived?”

“What if we meet Spider-Man?”

As Peter’s fellow students engaged in discussing their hopes, all Peter could do was enter an absolute state of panic. After all, he traveled there three times a week (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday), had an entire room for when he remained at the tower during the weekend, and Peter had the highest level access badge when it comes to security. Not to mention, Flash has already convinced a majority of his peers that Peter is an attention-seeking liar, and who knows what rumors could form from the field trip.

I bet Flash is going to say I bribed the security, Peter mused.

Fuck, what if they realize that I’m actually Spider-Man?

He was positively going to have a conversation about this with Mr. Stark the following day. I

mean, how could Mr. Stark do this to me, Peter considered, I know he knows my school’s name already . Wait, what if I tell him and he embarrasses me during the trip. I definitely can’t have that happen. Peter sighed, thinking about the complexity of his situation.

Why does the world despise me?

“This is going to be Amazing!,” declared Ned, breaking Peter out from his chain of thought. Peter’s eyes gazed at Ned, who was beaming with happiness, similarly to how Mr. Harrington was a couple of minutes former.

“What do you think we’re going to see?,” Ned questioned.

“I don’t know,” Peter exhibited, which was technically not dishonest.

“But you work there!,” Ned moaned.

Before Peter had a chance to respond, somebody loudly coughed interrupting the conversation. That somebody just happened to be Flash Thompson, who desired to make Peter’s life living hell.

“You seriously believe Puny Parker has an internship at Stark Industries?,” Flash asked, with a disapproving tone in his voice.

“I know he does!,” exclaimed Ned.

“Yeah, right,” Flash replied.

“Eugene, why don’t you go and significantly lower the IQ of some other students?,” MJ stated, looking up from her current sketch.

Flash scowled, but ultimately did as MJ asked.

“Thanks MJ,” both Peter and Ned said in unison.

“No problem, dorks,” she expressed, before returning to her sketchbook.

Lately, MJ has been starting to draw more frequently, and not only in times of crisis. Peter thought this was great, as she was probably the best artist in the entire grade.

Mr. Harrington once again clapped his hands, drawing the attention of his students towards him.

“We’re going to be taking this trip next Friday, or in other words, the 10th of November. I will be giving out permission slips, as well as NDA’s, after I finish speaking.”

A few students appeared to have a confused look when he mentioned NDA’s, and Mr. Harrington seemed to notice.

“We have been required by Stark Industries to sign NDA’s, as we might view some confidential items whilst visiting the labs.”

He paused, and when he viewed that the students who were previously confused nodded along. Mr. Harrington continued.

“You will only be allowed to use your phones in certain areas of the tower, and pictures are only allowed in the museum. Understand?”

The AcaDeca team moved their heads up and down, signifying that they understood.

“You guys can’t mess with any projects, and can't explore rooms not permitted by the tour guide. Any other rules and regulations will be listed on the back of the permission slip.”

Mr. Harrington walked around, leaving permission slips in the hands of students.

“Now, shall we begin actual decathlon practice.”

-------------Time Skip (After School)------------- 🕸️🕷✮⋆˙

Peter walked home from school rather than swinging, so he could take time to fully process his thoughts.

He had to convince his classmates that he was an intern (which he was), without them getting suspicious about him being Spider-Man. Peter had to find a method to drastically undersell his position, hopefully without alerting Mr. Stark.

Peter aimed to come up with a plethora of situations where he could achieve exactly that, but by the time he entered the elevator to his apartment, he hadn’t even come up with one. All of his plans were too complicated, involved Mr. Stark, or had the chance to backfire miserably.

He considered not attending the field trip all together, but then Flash would spread rumors that Peter was too scared to show up and have the team learn that he was lying.

Peter unlocked the door, and slammed it behind him as he stormed inside. Infront his he saw May, sitting on the couch, drinking a cup of coffee while watching TV. She usually only took shifts during school hours or late at night, that way the two of them could spend quality time together.

“What happened to you?,” his Aunt May questioned.

He didn’t say anything in return, but rather reached for his backpack and passed her a yellow piece of paper to her.

Permission slip for field trip to Stark Industries

She read quietly, giggling at the last two words in that phrase.

“This is not funny!,” Peter complained whilst pouting.

“You have to admit, this is one thing that could only happen to you,” she stated, holding back from hysterically laughing. She grabbed a pen from the living room table. She quickly wrote her name in absolutely beautiful cursive, which Peter still couldn’t understand how she managed to do. Whenever he attempted to write  cursive, it looked like his writing had been run over by a bull.

Peter quickly whispered thanks, and shoved the piece of paper into his backpack.

He speed-walked to his room and began his homework. Although Peter isn’t exactly a big fan of homework, it’s something that would keep his mind occupied, and Peter desperately needed a distraction.

Peter had worked silently for approximately 15 minutes, before turning on faint rock music to help him focus (Tony had recommended it).

-------------Time Skip (Finishing his homework)------------- 🕸️🕷✮⋆˙

…and the value of y is -7!

Peter grinned as he completed the final question of his worksheet. This specific assignment hadn’t been difficult, but it certainly had been long and tedious.

The teenager glanced up at the clock. It was currently 5:02 P.M. That would correlate to him going on his daily patrol for about two hours, returning for dinner with his Aunt May, and then returning to patrol while she left for her night shift. Hopefully, today he would be able to return to his apartment before 2:00 A.M.

Peter sighed, and then started to put on his Spider-Man suit. It was similar to the suit he had possessed in Germany, but with far more technological features. For instance, Mr. Stark had integrated nano-tech into the suit while they were in the lab together. Along with this, Peter had implemented a feature that changed the duration of how long his webs lasted.

Initially, his Stark internship had been a ruse for when he vanished to save the city. Overtime, though, after the homecoming incident, Peter and Tony had evolved and become closer, leading to the internship becoming real.

Peter immensely enjoyed the time he spent with Mr. Stark, and wouldn’t trade it for the world. Their movie nights which took place every Friday, the days where the two of them almost burnt down the lab, and everything in between, Peter absolutely adored. Even though he would never admit it, he honestly thought of Mr. Stark as his father. He loved the sight of Stark Tower-

Oh right, I have a field trip there. Peter had completely forgotten about the dreaded field trip, and panic once again filled him to the brim. He could feel his heartbeat move faster.

Take a deep breath , Peter reminded himself, I do not want to have a sensory overload today . Luckily, he was able to calm himself but his former dread still lingered in the back of his mind. There’s people who have it worse, and you need to save them , the spider-themed hero rationed, as he leapt out the window.

-------------Time Skip (During Patrol #1)------------- 🕸️🕷✮⋆˙

Patrol was abnormally uneventful for Peter. There had been a bike thief and a dude attempting to vandalize, but that was basically the extent of crime that afternoon.

Maybe they’re saving the big guns for the night , Peter considered.

Either way, he returned to his apartment, and found May sitting on the couch. She had a cheerful smile on her face (as per usual), and was slurping noodles from, what Peter and May considered, the greatest Chinese take out place in all of North America.

They ate and talked about their weeks, school and work, as well as anything that came to their minds. Atlas, their conversation had to come to an end when his aunt received a reminder concerning her shift.

“Bye, Peter!,” yelled May.

“See ya, May!,” responded Peter.

The door banged shut, and he swiftly (No, this is not about TS) changed into his spider suit.

Afterward, he walked to his bedroom and leaped out the window.

Let’s see what tonight has in store!

-------------Time Skip (During Patrol #2)------------- 🕸️🕷✮⋆˙

I guess I was wrong , Peter acknowledged. His second patrol of the day had been going about the same as the first one. He had circled around the city three times, yet he didn’t see a single crime.

It was the quietest Peter had seen the city for a long time. Did all the criminals go on vacation or something?

It just seemed to make no logical sense. Just how could the crime landscape this much in the matter of 24 hours?

Of course he was glad that crime had drastically decreased, but it felt weird at the same time. Peter felt like he was missing something, but he couldn’t figure out what that missing piece was.

Peter checked his watch, it was only 11:47, but he doubted any crimes were going to occur. Besides, if they did, Karen would alert him.

Peter sighed, and turned back in the direction of his apartment.
