Work Text:
Edgar had been drifting in and out of sleep, he had stayed up all night working on yet another novel for his dear Ranpo. He was sure this one would trip the small detective, just last week Ranpo had said Edgar's last novel was getting better. That compliment was all Edgar needed to fuel his last few days of pure writing, he even had forgotten to eat or drink a few times while writting, luckily Karl often nudged against him to remind him.
"Ca caw!" A single raven chirp to signal Edgar had gotten a new message (not to be confused with multiple chirps which indicated a call). Startled Edgar almost tipped over his coffee, plain black slightly warm, he still wasn't use to getting messages often, but he knew it was a message from Ranpo.
< EDDD (づ ̄ ³ ̄)づ >
The message read, Edgar smiled as he typed back, using his index finger, he knew if Ranpo were to see him he'd laugh at him and call him an old man, he preferred his type writer than a phones keyboard.
< Hi dear, what is the matter? >
Edgar wrote back, hitting sent and returning to his unfinished novel on his desk. This was the fifth draft he had created, he was extremely meticulous in his writing, everything had to be perfect for his dear.
< Hungry... And sick :( >
When Edgar heard the notification he immediately started typing, he couldn't keep Ranpo waiting.
< You're sick? Do you have medicine? How serious? >
His smile faded quickly in worry for Ranpo, typing out another message as he put on his jacket.
< Shall I come over? >
He asked to be nice, but he was coming either way. He let Karl climb onto his shoulder as he grabbed his keys and started packing a small bag, which included; candy (Ranpo's favorite), medication (for all different kinds of illnesses), as well as a few other things.
< It ok Yosano's here with me and dazai just left after bringing me some tissues ᕙ(@°▽°@)ᕗ >
Edgar read the message as he was already in his car, usually he'd take the train to meet with Ranpo but this time he wanted to get there as quickly as possible. As he read the message he could feel his heart beat faster, his grip on his phone tightened. It's not that he didn't like Ranpo's coworkers, in truth he respected them (somewhat) Ranpo liked them after all and Ranpo's opinion met a lot to him... It was just that he knew he could take better care of his Ranpo.
< It's not trouble, I'm already in the area so I might as well, I'm sure Karl will enjoy your presence as well. >
A slight lie, Ranpo would figure it out quickly once he set his eyes on him but he tried not to worry about that and instead focused on driving, speeding slightly when he thought about hand feeding ranpo soup as he layed in bed.
< Okaaa ,,, >
Poe took a glance at the message, before returning it back to the road, and then to the gps.
"12 minutes still ..."
He read aloud, Karl chirped back in response, Edgar imagined Karl was also expressing his impatientness to see Ranpo, after all it seems karl has tooken quite the liking to Ranpo, Edgar hated to say it but Karl likeness for Ranpo rivaled Karls likeness for himself, he knew it was because Ranpo gave the raccoon plenty of extra treats and attention but still, didn't he knew who fed him, took him on walks?
Breaking Edgar from his thoughts as he pulled up to the agency's apartments. He'd only been here a handful of times, he and Ranpo typically met at the agency, his own house, or occasionally various other places.
He loaded Karl and his gift bag from the car before he walked to knock on Ranpo's door.
"Ranpo? I'm here."
He mummbled just loud enough for a pair of ears to pick up on. The door knob twisted and then two Violet eyes peered back into his own.
"Poe?"
Yosano asked, she tried to sound surprised but it wasn't hard for Edgar to pick up on how unsurprised she actually was.
"Hello, uhm... Ranpo is here yes? May I come in?"
"Of course, perfect timing I was just about to leave but Ranpo is taking a nap."
"A nap?"
"Yes, he hasn't been feeling well and has slept a good majority of the day so far."
Yosano stepped out as Edgar stepped in, successfully switching places with each other.
"I see. Thank you.."
She nodded as she headed on her way, She creeped him out quite a bit so he was glad to be finished with the conversation, though he was glad to be done with any conversation, talking was not his strong suit.
As he ventured farther into the apartment he looked around. Not much has changed since he was last here, the slight mess which dusted the floors and counters were still there.
Once he reaches the living room he spotted the sleeping Ranpo, encased in a pillow fort, Edgar couldn't help but crack a smile at the sight as he imagined Ranpo building it.
A tissue box and multiple used tissues surrounded Ranpo's as well as a lot of empty bags of chips. Edgar set down his gift bag and sat down beside of Ranpo.
Nothing was better than staring into Ranpo's eyes, but staring at Ranpo himself in all came close. Edgar placed Ranpo's hand overtop of his, he tried to pretend Ranpo did it himself to make him feel better.
The neglected raccoon wasn't happy with the sleepy detective. He had hoped Ranpo would be giving out all his usual treats by now. In his anger he jumped from Edgar's shoulder And jumped onto Ranpo's stomach.
"Mmmgh"
A groan escaped Ranpo's lips as he immediately sat up. Edgar eyes widened as he quickly pulled off an angry Karl.
"Ah Ranpo, dear, are you okay? I apologize I didn't think Karl would jump on you."
"E-ed?"
He stuttered slightly still trying to wake up.
"When did you get here?"
He continued, rubbing his eyes and stretching.
"Just now actually... I brought you some things, how severe is it?"
"It's not bad, my nose is just really stuffy and I feel all warm in the outside but cold on the inside"
"There's some cold medicine in the bag, and candy, have you bathed yet? That could help."
"That's okay, Aikko already gave me some meds"
Ranpo searched around for the mentioned candy as he spoke, he didn't seem as energetic as usual, perhaps the cold was worse than he had let on Edgar thought.
Edgar furrowed his eyebrows as he processed the words Ranpo said again, he knew Yosano was doctor and all but still. He wanted to nurse Ranpo.
"Verywell then, the candy is at the bottom"
"Thanks, also I took a bath last night, does that count?"
Edgar shook his head, as he let out a small laugh.
"No, it does not. I'll go run some water, do you need anything before I go?"
He had already sat up, watching as Karl and Ranpo both chewed on a bag of sour patch kids.
"No I don't think so, thanks Ed!"
Edgar smiled as his nickname before walking to the bathroom, he hadn't been in Ranpo's house much but still he had already memorized every room and thing, the first time he visited he made a map.
He started the water, feeling the water every so often to make sure it was at a good temperature, not too hot, not too cold.
"Ranpo, dear, the bath is ready!"
He yelled; which came out like a slightly Louder speaking voice. He turned off the water.
"Thanks, your such a sweetie!"
Ranpo said he busted in, his hands filled with candy and a raccoon.
Edgar blushed as he responded,
"It's no problem dear..."
He exited quickly, he wanted to focus on his new task, making Ranpo an actual meal.
He knew if he created something not sweet enough it would just go to waste, but something too sweet wouldn't suffice as an actual sustainable meal. It might seem tedious to others to amend their cooking to Ranpo pickiness but it was the highlight for Edgar.
"Chicken and rice?" He thought aloud, it was easy to make sweet chicken while still letting it be good meal.
And with that he quickly began his cooking, dropping an apron he had left here the second time he visited around his waist as he started cooking.
Ranpo didn't have many ingredients, but luckily he had brought his own, he had dreamed of taking care of Ranpo for a long time.
Edgar wouldn't say he was a amazing chef or anything, but he definitely wasn't bad. Cooking came almost naturally for him, perhaps it was because he was alone a lot for his childhood and had to cook for himself.
Ranpo exited the bath halfway through the making of lunch. His hair was drenched, he wore a sweatshirt and long shorts, a soggy raccoon followed behind him.
"You finished your bath already?"
Edgar was mixing a sauce as he spoke, trying to focus on the cooking rather than ranpo's comfy clothes, ones he didn't see that often, though it was proving to be quite the challenge.
"Mhm"
Ranpo dragged himself over the barstool, staring at the food Edgar was making before laying his head down. Karl jumped beside the lazy black haired boy. A small chirp escaped the animal mouth as he did.
"Lunch will be ready soon don't worry."
"I'm not hungry."
"Nonetheless you should still try to eat dear, maybe you'll be hungry by the time it's ready."
"Mhh can't you just lay down with me instead?"
Edgar eyes widened, though almost unnoticeable behind his faded purplish brown hair. He did want to lay down with Ranpo but ... What about lunch?
"You can just put it in the fridge and make it for dinner."
Ranpo continued, like he had read Edgar's mind.
"Very well then.."
He made a very compelling offer, Edgar thought, trying to validate his choice.
So Edgar found himself grabbing empty containers, quickly putting away his half made chicken, and cooked rice before being dragged away to bed by the sleepy boy.
Once the two made it, Ranpo laid down, curling up as he pulled Edgar beside him.
"Sorry... I might get you sick too"
He whispered as he laid his head on Edgar's chest.
"That's okay.."
Edgar spoke softly, scared if he spoke normally his chest would rise too much in a way that would annoy Ranpo, or cause discomfort.
Ranpo easily drifted back to sleep, Edgar could feel how warm he was on top of him, slowly rubbing his back hoping it would help him sleep better or maybe that was just a cover to keep touching him either way it helped him drift slowly to bed, both caressing each other.
