Work Text:

It had been an eerily quiet morning, cold and calm… a thin fog still stood stagnant in the air. Many of Iacon’s residents had not yet woken up for the day and were still deep in a peaceful recharge. No one needed to be up this early, why waste the energy? Problems that had come up during the night, could be dealt with when the sun had finally risen to its proper position in the sky.

For most normal bots anyways, Primes could not afford that same luxury, apparently. His comm frequency rang with persistence, could Sentinel not wait until a more appropriate time during the cycle? If the advisor was pinging him this early, it must be something that held some importance, he should probably answer it.

With a quiet sigh of his vents, the large bot pushed himself out from under the berthcovers, nudging a tricolored wing out of the way. Megatronus did not want to accidentally wake the other mech from his recharge, he would not cause another bot to suffer the agony of an early morning if it was not necessary. The seeker could get quite scary when he was woken suddenly.

His pedes hit the cold floor of the Primal Basilica with a clank, the large mech shivered at the touch of the cold. Perhaps he should have splurged a bit of his shanix to buy that carpeted flooring that his seeker had been speaking of. Flight-frames did not do well with cold, Megatronus was a stark reminder of that, despite being bigger than most other bots of his frame class.

Right, the comm. The Prime made his way across the room to press the green button on his comm device, setting it to a quiet volume, hoping to not wake Starscream.

“Sentinel...” Megatronus mumbled slightly, “Why have you pinged me? Is there something going on down there? Does it require my immediate assistance?” His voice was quiet and was still tinged in static from his recharge, causing it to be nothing more than a deep rumble.

“I have discovered information that could cause us to win the war against the Quintessons.” The Primal Advisor’s voice filtered through the comm, he sounded like he was in an excited panic, “This cycle, there is going to be a meeting amongst the generals, in a cave on the surface of Cybertron. The Thirteen have all agreed, this could give us the advantage. A full-scale decisive attack could decimate the enemy leadership and win us the war.”

That shook the Prime out of his drowsy state, this is exactly the kind of advantage they needed against the enemy. The war had been raging on for so long and had caused so many losses, and the state of Cybertron frightened Megatronus. Especially since he now had a seeker to look after, not like Starscream wasn’t capable of taking care of himself… Megatronus just tended to be protective over the other, he did not like to see him hurt.

“This is a one-of-a-lifetime opportunity, we must prepare at once!” Sentinel’s voice reaches his audials once again, and the bigger bot nodded. He would need to prepare his weapons and speak with the others before they could set off, “The thirteen are meeting in a few kliks, try to be quick, time is of the essence.” The advisor spoke, before the comm cut off and left the mech in silence.

There was a quiet rustling from the berth, followed by the metallic click of a seeker’s heels, that caused Megatronus to lift his helm and turn around. And what a sight that was to behold, his seeker wrapped in his berthcovers, shivering slightly as he sleepily made his way over to Megatronus.

“Mm… and where are you off to so early? Who needs you this early in the cycle, besides me?” Starscream murmurs, as the Prime wraps his arms around the seeker’s trim waist, holding him close to his steady warmth, “You woke me up from a very pleasant dream, you know.”

The Prime can’t help but chuckle warmly at that, there’s his seeker, always needing the attention to be on him, “I did not mean to wake you this early, I was attempting to be quiet. You are just a light sleeper, my Star.” He mumbled, adjusting the seeker’s blanket to better trap in the warmth.

Starscream made an attempt to roll his optics at the tease, trying to not seem affected by the other mech’s teasing. Instead, he tried to focus on the feeling of Megatronus’s servos, he was always so affectionate in the morning, a bit clingy in Starscream’s optics. The seeker treasured every moment.

“Come back to berth with me, Megatronus, it is far too early for your relentless teasing. My shift does not start for another few joors, and I would like to soak up as much beauty sleep as I can.” The seeker mumbles, cuddling closer into the Prime’s touch.

Megatronus’s spark yearns… oh, it practically soars at the thought, the oh-so-tempting thought. But he must resist this cycle, there is work to do. The Prime is sure that his seeker would rather have the end of the war than a few more moments in berth.

“I must leave as soon as I am able, I have received word from Sentinel that there will be a meeting among the Quintesson high generals this cycle, we must intercept and kill their commanders.” He speaks, rocking the other back and forth as he talks, “It should not be a long fight, my guiding star. It will be in and out, I will be back before you wake for your shift. You will awaken in a peaceful Cybertron.”

The seeker hummed at that thought, it would be nice to see Cybertron not at war once again, to see the planet begin to thrive. He would finally be able to settle down with Megatronus and enjoy some of the finer things Cybertron has to offer. Perhaps a new paint job, a redecoration of their apartment, some energon sweets.

Megatronus just nudged the dreamy seeker back to his berth, picking him up and covering him with the berthcovers once again, “Will you not allow someone to accompany you to this battle? The High Guard awaits your command, I know plenty of seekers that would be happy to accompany you. I will accompany you if I must.” Starscream says, his optics starting to drift shut.

The sight made him chuckle, as he cups the seeker’s cheek in his servo, rubbing a digit over the smooth metal, “I do not require anything, besides a seeker nice and rested when I return. It will take us far too long to gather mechs, the more we bring, the more our location will be revealed to the enemy.” Megatronus says, his voice is soft as he reassures the seeker.

Starscream just hums as he presses his cheek into the touch, he had pledged to follow the Prime until the end, and he would do that. He could trust this mech, he had not yet failed him. The Prime was easy to trust, easy to love… one of the reasons Starscream was so drawn to him.

“I suppose you are right as always. Just be careful out there… return home to me in one piece. I would like to have all of you, not just a head, or bits and pieces.” Starscream chuckles, kissing Megatronus’s palm, “You promised that you would attend the training session for the young seekers, they admire you greatly and would hate to not see you. And I would lose my best sparring partner.”

A laugh rumbles through the Prime as he pulls the seeker’s helm flush to his own, taking a moment to enjoy the intimate action. Oh, how he loved this seeker.

“I must go now, my supernova. Return to recharge, I will soon be sending you word of our victory, of a peaceful Cybertron.” He murmurs, feeling Starscream kiss his mask before settling back down into the berth, wings already twitching in recharge.

Megatronus takes a moment to commit this memory to his banks, this is what he fought for, this is why the Primes would win this battle. For Megatronus’s seeker, and for the good of all of Cybertron. Coolant prickled at the edge of his optics for a moment, but he quicky shook it off, there was no need to cry when he would have so many more cycles just like this to look forward to.

Making sure to be quiet as he took steps across the floor, the Prime grabbed his weapon and took one last look, murmuring out a soft, “I love you, my Star. Never let anyone tell you otherwise, how perfect you are.” That fell on deaf audials, as the other recharged.

The door clicked with a quiet lock, as the other stepped out, not knowing the significance of this moment. For Megatronus, this moment was not historical, it was a quiet scene involving a Prime and his seeker… how he couldn’t wait to return. How hard could taking out a few generals be?
