Ed was floating. Sunlight glittered off the water around him and he thought of scales, orange and sparkly.
He watched Stede splash over, too entranced to clock his mischievous expression as he reached out and—
Ed was underwater.
One somewhat undignified totally cool scramble to the surface later and Ed found himself blinking away seawater until Stede came back into focus, his bright scrunchy smile on full display.
Ed's mermaid…and a complete menace too.
“You fucking dunked me!” Ed spluttered, and Stede laughed, and what was Ed supposed to do except kiss him about it?
After dunking him back.
