Work Text:
In the grand halls of the palace, the soft glow of candlelight danced along the walls, illuminating the intricate tapestries that told the stories of Paradis. Queen Historia sat at her ornate desk, the weight of her crown pressing down on her head. It was a heavy burden, one that often left her feeling isolated and weary. The political struggles and responsibilities of leadership loomed over her like a storm cloud, and sometimes, she longed for the simpler days when she could run freely in the fields.
But tonight was different. As she scanned the papers before her, a sense of unease crept into her heart. The kingdom was at a crossroads, and the decisions she made would shape the future of her people. Just then, the door creaked open, and Ymir stepped inside, her presence like a breath of fresh air.
“Your Majesty,” Ymir said, her voice steady yet soft, as she bowed her head respectfully. “I’ve come to ensure your safety.”
Historia looked up, a smile breaking through her tension. “Thank you, Ymir. I appreciate your dedication. You always know how to make me feel a little less burdened.”
Ymir’s dark eyes softened as she approached. “It’s my duty to protect you, but you deserve more than just protection. You deserve happiness.”
Historia’s heart fluttered at Ymir’s words. She had always admired the fierce loyalty and strength that Ymir possessed, but it was the moments like these — the ones where vulnerability shone through — that truly captivated her.
“Sometimes, I feel trapped in this palace,” Historia confessed, her voice barely above a whisper. “It feels like the walls are closing in on me.”
Ymir stepped closer, the warmth of her presence wrapping around Historia like a comforting cloak. “You’re more than a queen, Historia. You’re a person with hopes and dreams. Don’t let the crown define you.”
Historia’s gaze met Ymir’s, and for a moment, the world outside the palace faded away. The weight of the crown seemed lighter, and the pressures of leadership momentarily vanished. “What do you dream of, Ymir?” she asked, curiosity dancing in her eyes.
Ymir hesitated, a flicker of uncertainty crossing her features. “I dream of freedom — to live without fear, to protect those I care about without the burden of duty.”
“Then let’s find a way to make that dream a reality,” Historia suggested, her voice brimming with determination. “We could explore beyond the palace walls, even if just for a night.”
Ymir’s heart raced at the idea, her protective instincts battling with the desire to be close to Historia, to share a moment that was just theirs. “But, Your Majesty, what if someone sees you? The kingdom needs its queen.”
“Then I’ll be just Historia for a while,” she insisted, her eyes sparkling with mischief. “I want to escape this place, even if only for a short time.”
Ymir studied her, the determination in Historia’s eyes making her heart swell. “If you truly wish it, I will follow you. But I won’t let you out of my sight.”
With a nod of agreement, Historia smiled brightly. “Let’s go, then.”
The two slipped out of the palace, navigating the dimly lit corridors until they reached the gardens. The moon hung high in the sky, casting a silvery glow over the landscape, and the air was fragrant with the scent of blooming flowers. Freedom felt intoxicating as they stepped into the night.
As they wandered through the garden, Historia suddenly stopped, her eyes shining with excitement. “Let’s dance!” she exclaimed, pulling Ymir into an open space surrounded by flowers.
Ymir hesitated, but the joy radiating from Historia was infectious. “Dance? Here? Now?” she asked incredulously.
“Yes! Just you and me,” Historia insisted, her laughter echoing in the stillness of the night. “We’re not queens and guards right now; we’re just two girls enjoying the moment.”
With a reluctant smile, Ymir allowed Historia to take her hand. They began to sway gently to an unheard melody, the world around them fading into the background. Ymir held Historia close, her heart racing not from fear, but from the closeness they shared.
“See? This isn’t so bad,” Historia said, her voice filled with joy.
Ymir chuckled softly, a sense of warmth enveloping them. “You always find a way to make everything better, don’t you?”
As they danced, a soft breeze stirred the flowers around them, and a faint shimmer of light seemed to weave through the air. Ymir glanced around, sensing something unusual but couldn’t quite place it.
“Historia, do you feel that?” Ymir asked, suddenly aware of an enchanting presence surrounding them.
Historia paused, tilting her head as she tried to sense it too. “Feel what?”
Before Ymir could respond, a soft voice echoed through the garden, barely a whisper. “Two hearts intertwined, a bond so pure, let magic awaken and hearts endure.”
Suddenly, Ymir felt a warmth wash over her, a glow radiating from the space where their hands met. She blinked in surprise as a gentle magic enveloped them, causing the flowers around them to bloom brighter and the air to sparkle.
“Ymir!” Historia gasped, taking a step back as the enchantment unfolded. “What is happening?”
“I... I don’t know,” Ymir stammered, her heart racing. The warmth was intoxicating, and with it came a rush of emotions she had tried to keep buried.
The voice continued, echoing softly in the night. “In this moment, let your feelings guide, for love can bloom when hearts collide.”
As the magic swirled around them, Ymir felt the urge to act on the feelings she had hidden for so long. The pull was overwhelming, as if the very essence of the enchantment had unlocked her heart.
“Historia, I...” Ymir breathed, stepping closer, the distance between them shrinking.
A light blush spread across Historia’s cheeks as she watched Ymir, her expression a mixture of surprise and understanding. “Ymir, what do you feel?”
Ymir hesitated, her heart pounding as she fought the spell's urging. But the warmth spreading through her made it impossible to deny the truth any longer. “I feel… drawn to you. More than I can say. I’ve always cared for you, but this... this magic is making everything so clear.”
“Then let it be clear,” Historia said softly, her voice trembling with emotion. “I care for you too, Ymir. I’ve always admired your strength, your loyalty, and... the way you make me feel safe.”
The magic pulsed around them, and in that moment, it felt like the world had stopped. Ymir leaned in, her heart racing, and pressed her lips to Historia’s in a gentle kiss. Time seemed to melt away as the warmth of the magic enveloped them, pulling them deeper into the moment.
When they finally pulled apart, both breathless, Ymir looked into Historia’s eyes, searching for any hint of doubt. Instead, she found only acceptance and a glimmer of joy.
“Ymir,” Historia said, her voice barely above a whisper, “I’ve dreamed of this. Of being with you, away from the crown and the duties. Just us.”
The magic around them began to fade, the soft light dissipating into the night. Yet the connection they had forged felt stronger than any spell. “Then let’s make it real,” Ymir replied, her voice filled with conviction. “No more hiding. We’ll face whatever comes together.”
As dawn broke over the horizon, painting the sky in shades of pink and gold, Ymir and Historia stood hand in hand in the garden, a new future stretching out before them. The magic of the night had unveiled their true feelings, and now, they were ready to embrace the challenges of the world together.
And in that moment, with the promise of a new day ahead, they realized that love was the most powerful magic of all.
