Work Text:

It was Danny’s day off and he was going to treat himself to some coffee and a scone from the cozy little cafe that was just a few blocks from where they lived. It might be in Crime Alley but it was some of the best (and affordable) coffee Danny had ever had. Not to mention, that they let him put in an absurd amount of espresso shots. It also, in Danny’s humble opinion, had an excellent name- Deathpresso. It was hilarious.

He ordered and found a table to sit at. The bell above the door jingled and another customer walked in.

“I’m here to pick up an order for Grayson.” the man said, walking up to the counter.

“Here you go, Mr. Grayson.”

“Thanks.”

The barista smiled at him and then turned to address the rest of the shop. “I’ve got a large Death Wish ready.”

Danny stood up with a smile and quietly thanked the barista as he picked up his drink.

“Hey, I see you’re ignoring Alfred’s coffee ban. Rather bold of you to think he won’t find out.”

Danny stared. The man was clearly talking to him, but Danny had no idea who he was. He tried to think back, he knew his facial recognition was terrible, but he didn’t recognize him and didn’t know anyone named Alfred either.

“Ummm…” Danny responded very intelligently.

The man smirked. “Don’t worry. He won’t hear anything from me.” the man mimed zipping his lips shut.

“Ummm… ok?” Danny said hesitantly. Then the man reached over and ruffled Danny’s hair.

Danny froze. What. The. Ancients.

The man turned to leave, looking back over his shoulder before exiting. “See you at dinner, Timbo!”

What in the world had just happened? Danny was so confused, more confused than normal, which was saying something since Danny was almost always confused about something.

That man must have thought Danny was someone else. Danny frowned. He must look ridiculously similar to this other person to be mistaken to the point that the man never doubted that Danny was this other person.

Whatever. As long as it wasn’t a clone situation. Ugh. He’d have to talk to Vlad or see if Tucker could hack his computer. Hopefully the fruitloop hadn’t made another clone. Though if he had, it was strange that Vlad was letting them live their life somewhere else.

It mattered not! Danny was going to relax. He’d think about all that later.

After Danny enjoyed some delicious caffeine filled coffee and a sugary scone, he decided he might as well enjoy the rest of his free day and go to the museum. They had a temporary space exhibit he’d been dying (hah!) to see. He had enough saved up that he could afford a ticket, and it would be nice to indulge in his obsession. Especially since you couldn't see the stars in Gotham.

He walked slowly through the museum, hardly able to take his eyes off of the space exhibits. There were moon rocks, and pieces from meteorites, and models of rockets. He went to step over toward the next display, but ended up bumping into someone.

“Sorry.” Danny said, managing to take his eyes off of the exhibit. He looked up and then farther up into the face of someone who was nearly the same height as his dad. They even looked similar.

“Oh.” the man smiled. “I thought you said you’d be too busy to make it. Stephanie is just in the other room if you want to go with her.”

“Umm…” Who was this man? This was so strange, especially considering this was the second time this had happened today. “I’m good?” Danny continued hesitantly.

“I’ve got to go take care of some things downstairs, but I’ll see you at dinner.” The man set a hand on Danny’s shoulder and smiled gently down at him before he turned to leave. “I’ll see you at dinner, Tim.”

Danny stared after him, not even the allure of space enough to restart his brain.

Why did people keep confusing him with this... Tim? They couldn’t look that similar, could they?

Ugh. He’d definitely have to talk to Vlad now. He was definitely behind this. Danny just knew it.
