Work Text:
There was water all around her and hands on her limbs. Cassandra tried to struggle and get away but she couldn't. They were too strong for her. The beings around her were in their element and she was not. Mermaids were made for the water. And for drowning people.
She could feel her oxygen running out and knew she had only moments left before she lost consciousness and then it would all be over for her. Death would come when she could no longer struggle.
Cassandra put all she had into her last effort to get away. She failed as the hands gripping her tightened and she was pulled further down into the ocean waters.
Darkness started to come over her eyes and she felt herself being to drift away to unconsciousness.Just as the darkness started to overcome her the hands left her body.

Jacob and Ezekiel pulled Cassandra out of the water. They had been horrified when she had been pulled under the water by the mermaids they had been trying to talk to. It was just their luck that the group they had encountered not only didn't like humans but had a grudge against the Library and the Librarians.
They could only hope that they were in time to save her from death. As soon as she was out of the water they went through the motions they had been taught by Eve to help someone who was drowning.
Then they waited. And after a few long moments Cassandra started coughing and water went everywhere.
Jacob breathed a sigh of relief as Ezekiel continued to help Cassandra until she was ready to sit up.
She looked at both of them back and forth with a wild eyed look.
"I think that means we need a Plan B.”
