After Deku donates blood to Bakugou after he losses too much after a fight, Bakugou start having some... strange side effects

Notes:

(See the end of the work for notes.)

Work Text:

Bakugou is bleeding. A lot. More than he thought a person could bleed. And it was everywhere. His shirt, his pants, his hair, inside his boots. And it's not stopping. Deku is putting pressure on his wound in an attempt to stop the flow.

“It’s okay Kacchan. It will be okay. Just try and stay awake, okay?”

At some point they have moved to the ground. Bakugou was lying down on his back, looking up at the sky. Looking up at Deku. Deku’s hair is almost black with soot and his face is a mess of tears and dirt. Bakugou thought he never looked more beautiful. Maybe that was just the blood loss.

Back to the problem at hand, they were both focused so hard on the other that they didn’t even notice that the medical crew had arrived. The team immediately gets to work. Asking Deku questions, none of which Bakugou can understand anymore. They carefully push Deku to the side, enough so that they can work but not enough that he can’t see Bakugou anymore.

Moving quickly, they slide the brace board under him and strap him down. The team lifts up the board with him on it and makes quick steps to the safety zone, ambulance at the ready. The movement proved to be too quick for Bakugou and his blood loss, only making it a few seconds before he succumbed to the darkness.

With the medical team taking care of Kacchan, with Deku close on their heels, they secure quickly into the back of the ambulance and take off. An oxygen mask and monitor are placed on him and they start tending to his wounds. Something must have been off. They move around too much for Deku to figure out what.

“Blood! He is losing blood too quickly! We need to give him a transfusion!” One guy yelled. Dekus heart dropped.

“Prepare the blood!” Yelled another.

“There is none!”

They all pause and look at the guy who yelled that. What does he mean there is no blood? This is an ambulance, they should have donner blood ready.

“There were too many injuries already, we used up the last batch on the last trip.”

“Damn”

“Alright, is anyone an O blood type?”

No one said anything.

“Damn, hey kid,” Deku looked up, “Don’t suppose you know what blood type he is? We can only give him O blood or his exact blood type.”

“He is an A positive, and so am I. You can take my blood,” Deku said standing up, extending his arm.

“You sure you wanna do this kid? Kia is an A+ type too.” they gestured over to one of the other medics.

“Yes, I am sure. The fight is over with, you guys need to be there to help them clean up and save the ones who are hurt. Can’t really do that with a blood loss. Plus, I’m done for the day. I'm not leaving Kacchan.”

And just like that they hooked him up to Kacchan. Deku didn’t even notice the stab of the needle, just focused on Kacchan’s face.

The first thing Bakugou thought when he woke up was that he had a test he needed to study for. His second thought was a jumbled mess of what he remembered from before he passed out. His third was ‘Am I dead’. But the slight pain in his stomach and eyes when he opened them proved him wrong. Looking around, he immediately recognized his surroundings as a hospital. Great. Just great. Feeling a weight in his left hand, he looked over to see a fuzzy green ball resting on it. Oh wait a moment. That's Deku. Drooling on him. Gross.

Even with the pain meds and blood loss, Bakugou was able to push Deku’s head off the bed so he fell on the floor. Immediately alert, Deku looks around to find the cause of his falling and awakening. He locks eyes with Bakugou and tackles him into a hug.

“Kacchan! You’re awake!” he sobs.

“Gross! First you drool on me, now you are getting tears and snot on me!”

Deku sits up and wipes his face with his sleeve, sniffing. “Sorry, I was just so worried.”

Bakugou scuffs and looks away, “whatever.”

Bakugou only had to say one more night before he was released from the hospital, thanks to a healing quirk doctor he was right as rain. Except he was benched from training for the next week till Aizawa deems him fit. Asshole.

So that is where he is now. Sitting on the sidelines, watching everyone else train but him. He huffed out a breath, annoyed. As he watches he sees something that he has never noticed before. Deku has a weird aura when he uses his quirk. It's like a green halo that is around his body when he jumps, floats, or kicks.

Weird.

Has he always done that? Bakugou didn’t think so, having spent many hours watching him fight, or fighting against him before. Maybe he just didn’t notice till he was forced to take a break. He also thought that there might be some sort of shadows following him. The world seems to shift and change around him. Now he definitely would have noticed that. This was their first training after the fight they had the other day. Has the other boy been hit with a quirk since then?

Bakugou turned to Aizawa beside him, “What's with the weird aura and shadows around Deku?”

Aizawa looked over at Deku. He squinted and shook his head. “What shadows? I don’t see anything.”

Bakugou immediately felt bad. Aizawa never said it out loud, but the class could tell that his eyesight was not as good with far away detail. And with the aura and shadows, you would have had to focus to see them. Of course Bakugou had to ask the only person who was old and blinding if he could see something far away.

“Must have been the light, never mind.”

—

Bakugou seemed to notice them more and more over the next few training courses while he was on the bench. They seem to be getting stronger and more pronounced too. But no one seemed to notice anything. Bakugou even tried to ask one of Deku’s friends if they saw it but it appears that it's just him seeing it. It wasn’t until the last day that he was benched that he saw what the shadows were.

They had mostly sayed by Deku’s side whenever he would use a quirk. When he would use a different one, they would shift into a different position and would change shape. When Deku was using Float and chatting with round cheeks, Bakugou finally recognized the shadow around him.

It was HER. The original float user. The user before All might. Shimura Nana. It wasn’t just some shadows he was seeing. Bakugou was seeing Deku’s quirk and past users. It only took him so long to recognize her because Deku had been moving around. The other users, Bakugou have never seen before, even in pictures, but Nana was a pro-hero. He had seen video footage of her when he was younger as well as when Deku and him would have their chats with All Might.

How, he has no idea. Or why he was the only one who could see them. But he was determined to find out.

—

Bakugou was planning on bringing it up in the next session that He, Deku, and All Might have, which was scheduled for the next day, but it seems that whatever reason he could see the quirk had other plans. His dreams that night were no different than usual. Nightmare about Kamino. Nightmare about a school festival. Nightmare about school. But at some point, the dreams turned from usual to unusual.

He was in a room with several people he did not recognize. But he did recognize at least three. Nana, All Might, and of course Deku. They all seem to be chatting. No one noticed him yet. When he tried to take a step forward, it was like he was made of lead. All he could move was his head. He tried to speak but even that was difficult. All he could get out was a grunt. But it was enough to make all heads turn towards him.

“Kacchan?” Deku asked. “What are you doing here? How are you here?”

Bakugou just grunted again. The room and the people started fading in and out of existence. Except Deku sayed in focus. He didn’t seem to notice. All of his focus was on Kacchan.

Bakugou's eyes flew open, chest heaving in breaths, looking up at his All Might poster hanging from his ceiling. What was that? A dream? A Vision? It took him a few moments to get his bearings.

Knock knock

Some were knocking on his door. Bakugou looked at the clock and saw it was only 3AM. He groaned and rolled out of bed. It was exactly who he thought it was. Deku. Breathing as if he just ran a marathon.

“Kacchan! Are you okay? I saw you in my dream!”

“That's not weird at all for you to be waking me up at 3AM to tell me.”

“Kacchan!”

“Okay, okay. I don’t know what happened or how I got there. One second I was dreaming and the next I was there.”

“Has that happened before? I didn’t notice you until you made a sound.”

“No, that was a first. But…”

“But what, Kacchan?”

Bakugouo hesitated, “I have been seeing things recently.”

“Like what? Like hallucinations?”

“Maybe? I didn’t know what it was at first but I think I can see the past users when you use your quirk.”

“What! Why didn’t you say anything?”

“I didn’t know what I was seeing! I thought it was just my mind or the light! I only realized at the last training what it was. I was going to tell you tomorrow or I guess later today with All Might.”

“I think we should go talk to him now.”

—

Logically, they both knew that it could wait till morning, but there would be no way that they would be able to sleep now. Talking about it any more with each other would just mean more to fill in All Might with later. The old man was in the dream anyways as well so he probably already knew.

Sure enough, All Might was sitting in his lounge room waiting for them. There was a hot cup of tea in his hands and he was dressed in old man PJ’s with the dumb little hat aw well. Bakugou held back a snicker and rude comment. His isn’t much to take. Deku and him were still in their own pajamas as well.

“Ah! Good morning young Bakugou, Midoriya. I was wondering when you would be here.”

They quickly catch All Might up in this situation, half of which he already suspected based on the dream.

“Hmm, that is quite strange. I’ve never had any instance where anyone but an One of All user was able to see a past user. Unless there is something you two know that I don’t.” All might give them both a look with his eyebrow raised.

“What?! No! I would have noticed if Deku gave me his shitty quirk! I never even ate any of his hair!”

Deku’s eyes widened, “DNA.”

“What?” Bakugou was confused, “Yes, your hair has your DNA.”

“No. The quirk is passed through DNA.”

“So??” Bakugou already knew this. “You never gave me your DNA though.”

Now Deku looked guilty, “but I did.”

Both All Might and Bakugou looked at Deku in shock. “What!? When? How? Why?” Bakugou started to fumble with his words.

“Last week, when you got hurt, you lost a lot of blood. They needed to give you some but they had run out due to all of the other casualties that the medical crew was dealing with. They needed the O type blood because it's the universal donor blood, but they didn’t have any and I…”

“You’re a type A+ blood aren't you? The same as me”

“Yes. But I didn’t know that it would affect you! All Might said that I could only be passed with the intent to be passed, not by accident. But I never intended to give it to you. I never even thought about the quirk!”

“ This is quite peculiar.” All Might mumbled.

“I don't want your quirk! I don't want to take it from you either! How do I give it back? Eat my hair?” Bakugou was starting to become distressed.

“Kacchan! It’s okay! We will figure it out!” Deku put his hand on Bakugou’s arm in hopes to comfort him. It worked.

All Might hummed, “I, myself, have never given my blood away for donations before, for a fear that something like this would happen.”

“What?” The teen both asked.

“I was worried that I would accidentally pass the quirk on with the intent to give blood mixed in with my quirk. So I never did. But I don’t think it has been passed on. Young Midoriya, I still feel your flame, and it burns brightly. Young Bakugou, I don’t feel a flame but more as an ember? Or ash? It was as if he was a past user himself. It feels like my own flame once it has gone out.”

“OKay, that makes a bit of sense. I don’t feel like I have his quirk. I guess I never even noticed till you said something but I feel… more connected? To Deku? And a bit toward you as well? I don’t know how to describe it but I can almost feel the flame that you keep calling Deku’s quirk. It’s… warm.”

All Might turned to Deku. “When you gave the blood, was it put into a bag and then Bakugou or a straight transfer, directly into his veins?”

“Directly into his veins.” They both were starting to understand what the former hero was concluding to as well.

“So that must have somehow connected you together. Instead of two separate blood strains, it became one. One body, one heart. Once you were disconnected, you became separate entities again as well, cutting off Bakugou from the main line.”

“So, I was… leaching off his quirk?”

“In a way, yes. But I have no idea on how long the effects will last. I, myself, only feel more connected to the spiritual side the longer I am without the quirk.”

“So I could be stuck this way.” Bakugou stated.

“We don’t know that you,” All Might assured, “ but for now, it seems that there is no serious danger or harmful effects of this.”

After that, they called it a night. Or morning seeing how the sun was starting to rise. For the next few days, the two teens avoided each other. One feeling guilty of causing the predicament. The other was embarrassed to have connected to his rival(coughcough crush). It was the third day of Bakugou being back in training for them to interact again. And with it, a new discovery about their connection.

It was a one on one spare and Aizawa, with a vendetta to make them get alone, paired them against each other. It starts off like any other fight, punch-kick-jump. The works. Bakugou was doing his best to avoid looking at the aura that has just gotten stronger since the last time he saw it, and the shadow following close behind Deku. But when one move makes them come into skin to skin contact, the whole world fades away. They are no longer in the training arena at UA. They are in the vestige mindscape. With all the past users looking at them.

“What just happened? Deku, why are we here?” Bakugou asked, frustrated.

“I don’t know either! It just happened!”

Bakugou paused, “It's getting stronger. I see it more visibly and I’ve been back in your dreams once or twice. I think it was the skin contact that did it this time.”

“I think you are right. I’ve noticed your shadow in there but you haven't been a full figure yet, never mind enough to talk or move. But you can now.”

Bakugou looked down at himself. Hmmm. “Do you think it's because of the connection?”

“What else could it be?”

Bakugou started to fade into a shadow form. “Our body’s must be disconnecting in the real world.”

“Yeah. I guess it's time to WAKE UP.”

“WAKE UP.” Kirishima was shaking him. Hard.

“Oi! Fuck off already!”

“Baku Bro! You’re awake! I was so worried! You and Midobro must have knocked each other out. He is just coming around too.”

“How long were we out?”

“Just a few minutes. But long enough. Time to go to Recovery Girl.”

—-

Recovery Girl gave them both a quick kiss and sent them on their way with the institution to take it easy for the rest of the day. Back in the dorms, they both awkwardly walked to the couch and took a set next to the other. They needed to talk and figure it out before that happens again without warning.

“I'm sorry, Kacchan.”

Bakugou sighed, “It wasn’t your fault. You didn’t know this would happen. Plus you did, like, save my life so,” He mumbled, “Thank you.”

Deku flashed him a small grin, “anytime!”

Bakugou gave a little chuckle. “And I'm sorry about invading your privacy. You didn’t ask to get stuck with ME being connected to you.”

“Kacchan, there is no one else that I would rather be stuck with than you.”

“You really mean that? I know I haven't been the… best to you. No, I've been horrible to you! You should hate me! But you can't because you are just so… good! And I'm too selfish to stay away.”

“Kacchan! I know that we have had our differences, but trust me. I’ve forgiven you a long time ago. You just haven't forgiven yourself yet. You really are the person that I would be happy to spend the rest of my life with. I-I love you.”

Bakugou stared at him in shock.

“And I know that you don’t feel the same but I just-”

Bakugou cut him off with a kiss.

At first Deku didn’t move in shock, but once Bakugou started to pull away did he reciprocate. The whole world disappeared and it was just them two. Bakugou climbed into Dekus lap to deepen the kiss.

“Wowwww, boys. Um, could you get a room please?”

They quickly broke apart.

“Preferably one that we, ya know, aren't stuck in!” yelled the fourth user.

They were back in the vestige mindscape. Oops

It's going to take awhile to figure out how to avoid that.

Notes:

I only wrote this to make them make out and accidently pop into the vestiges world lol
