After prying her axe between the two doors, Lara stood back and firmly planted her foot against the wood. The doors swung open, and Lara pushed in, equipped with Roth's Remington 1911s, ready for whatever got in her way.
...Only to find Sam standing in the room, with three henchmen lying on the floor, and a pistol pointed at Lara's face. Recognition flashed in Lara and Sam's eyes and they lowered their weapons, both at a loss for words.
"It's you." Sam finally said.
"Of course it's me, did you think you'd call me and I wouldn't come?" Lara replied, raising an eyebrow.
Sam scoffed, muttering, "
You never came all the other times...
"
"What?"
"Nothing. So are you staying this time? I hate to say it, but I could use your help."
"I am. And this time, I won't leave your side." Lara said, feeling her face soften. Sam always had that effect on her.
"Promise?" Sam asked gently, Lara almost didn't hear it. Her eyes had grown large as she stared at Lara expectantly.
"Promise. We always go together. Always." Lara said, hoping Sam would remember. Sam exhaled and relaxed her shoulders before looking back at Lara with that same soft expression she always had. Lara forgot how much she missed it.
"Until heaven falls," Sam said with a small smile.
"Until heaven falls," Lara replied.
Maybe. Just maybe. Everything would be okay.
