Work Text:
Penny came home the morning of the sixteenth after closing to the sight of Pete and Tom hard at work in the kitchen. She didn’t know whether to laugh or melt at the sight. Their concentration was solely on the baking tray in front of them.
“Are you honestly making cookies at four in the morning?”
Tom glanced up first followed by Pete.
“You’re home!”
“I am, only to find my two favorite guys destroying the kitchen with some late night baking.” She then glanced from her husband to Tom. “Did something happen with our little monsters after I left?”
“Nope,” Pete declared proudly.
“Bradley decided to go out with Jake earlier.”
“And Amelia?”
“Your childhood Beau might have asked if Amelia could stay over at his house instead tonight.”
“He did not!”
“Actually, he did,” Tom confirmed. “We believe he’s trying to prove that he can be a cool parent like us as well to his son.”
Now that she could see actually.
Beau had never felt fully comfortable being the sole person responsible for his children after his late wife passed unexpectedly. He worried so much about becoming his parents, and he never wanted his kids to grow up in a household like he had. It had taken so much coaxing initially, but eventually, he learned to trust his parental instincts and grew to becoming semi-comfortable around his kids. However, he still had a horrible habit of worrying about the little things at times.
“So, if I’m understanding correctly here, we have the house all to ourselves tonight?”
“Yep,” Pete replied, popping his ‘p’ with a roguish grin.
“Haven’t had that in a while.”
“No, we have not,” Tom chuckled, wiping the flour off on his apron.
With a smirk, Pete suggested, “We could finish the rainstorm protocol from the other night.”
She laughed, shaking her head. “What’s the cookies for then?”
“Energy.”
She rolled her eyes. “Oh, of course.”
“What do you say, Pen? Some sweet treats for our sweetheart?”
“I say, I’m headed to bed, but you boys enjoy yourselves.”
Her shoulders and neck were stiff and sore from lugging the cases of beer from the storeroom to replenish the cooler she had behind the bar. Her mind was going a mile a minute, running down what she needed to do tomorrow before she opened.
Turning away from them reluctantly, she headed towards the stairs to head to their bedroom to shower and change into her nightwear. She may have felt a bit wired underneath the exhaustion that came with closing, but she knew it wouldn’t last long to enjoy their sweet treats tonight.
She took her shower quickly, making sure to wipe off all the sweat and grime that collected from her shift tonight. She may have loved interacting with people, meeting new patrons every night, but, damn, was it exhausting.
After brushing her teeth, she crawled into bed, flopping onto her pillow dramatically.
It didn’t take long afterwards to feel the familiar bodies press up against her.
“I’m sorry,” she sighed, hating that they couldn’t jump on the rare opportunity. “I’m too exhausted, my loves.”
“That’s okay. We take rain checks,” Pete soothed, pressing a kiss against her shoulders.
“Let us take care of you tonight, dear.” Tom’s fingers started to knead at the tight muscles in her back, working out all the knots he could find.
She exhaled loudly in relief, sinking further into the pillow.
It didn’t take long before her mind went to static as her two loves continued their sweet assault on her, lulling her to dreamless sleep.
Sometimes the sweet treat of the night ended up being massages, cuddles, and shoulder kisses.
