Work Text:
Shaking his head, a fond smile pulling at his lips, Tighnari placed the book down on the desk.
Squabbling yet again was Alhathiam and Kaveh about something so meaningless in the grand scheme of things, but they acted as though it was the be all to end all, verbally attacking each other with such voracity that anyone outside their little group would think they hated each other.
But he knew it was their weird sort of way of showing affection, despite the absurdity.
Leaning to the side, his head found its place nestled in the crook of his white haired companion’s shoulder.
“What’s wrong, Nari?”
Nuzzling into the soft locks, he shook his head. “Nothing, Cyno. I'm as happy as I can be.”
Chuckling, ruby eyes latched onto emerald, a smile playing on the elders lip as he leaned towards the other.
“FUCK YOU!”
Jolting away from each other, the two stared, watching as Alhathiam stormed out of the room, the door slam reverberating through the room. Wincing at the sound, the forest ranger could feel his ear twitch.
I hope next door won't complain again.
The two could only watch as Kaveh stared at the door, like a lost puppy waiting for its owner.
Clearing his throat, the blonde jumped, turning around with wide eyes, seemingly having forgotten the two were there.
“What was that about?”
The architectural scholar snapped back to reality, his eyes burning with anger, the change in attitude almost giving Tighnari whiplash.
“He’s pushing me away again, saying that he’ll spend time with me when he finishes this project, and then he’ll just jump to the next one and forget about me.”
Side glancing Cyno, his gaze trained on the way he fiddled with his shirt, eyes darting around the room as they pointedly avoided the blonde.
Sighing as he leant forward, Tighnari met Kaveh’s earnest gaze, steeling himself for what he had to say. “Kaveh, Alhathiam cares about you more than anyone else, and you know that. Besides, you are kind of a hypocrite; you do the exact same thing to him.”
Seeing the scholar was about to interrupt, Tighnari gave the hardest glare he could muster, silencing him. “I’m right though; when you get on a designing spree, you shut us all out, but we work with it.”
“I.” Dropping his gaze to the floor, his fists clenched as the welling anger dissipated, leaving Kaveh feeling nothing but sad and empty. “Yeah, I’ll. I’ll apologise or something.”
Turning to the door, he gave a small smile at the forest ranger over his shoulder. “Thanks Tighnari.”
“Don’t worry.”
Watching as the architect left the room, the ranger's smile fell as he collapsed back into the sofa.
Cosying up to his boyfriend, the general gave a small kiss to Tighnari’s cheek. “I don't know how you de-escalate those two.”
With a long sigh, he cuddled the other. “They don’t really need me though.”
“What do you mean?”
His ears lay flat against his head as he nuzzled into the other's chest. “They already had all the tools to fix this.”
Tilting his head in confusion, a few strands fell over his eyes as he tried to piece together what the dendro user was saying.
“Don’t worry about it, Cyno.”
Next Door:
"Al?"
"Not right now." He answered without glancing up from the books he was reading, shrugging the other side.
“Alhathiam?”
“Go away Kaveh. I’m busy.”
“I’m sorry.”
Freezing, the scribe pulled himself away from the line of text, looking up to meet Kaveh's expectant gaze.
“What?”
Bowing his head, "I'm sorry; I was a hypocrite." And you’ve never broken a promise, so I don’t know why I worried, but…” He could feel wetness pricking at the corner of his eyes.
Rolling his eyes at the others' antics, Alhathiam beckoned the other to come closer. "It’s not the end of the world, stupid."
Reaching for a scroll of sorts, he tossed it at the blonde, watching with a grin as he scrambled to catch it.
"What's this?"
"Just open it, dumbass."
“You don’t have to be mean about it,” Kaveh pouted, unfurling the scroll. "What is this?"
Scanning the paper, the blueprints depicted what appeared to be a hotel of sorts.
The architectural and overlapping structure . "Is this Wangshu Inn?" His tone softened: "You got this for me?"
Scoffing at the other. "Well, yeah."
"Is this your way of apologising?"
“I don't know what you’re on about.” The scribe crossed his arms as he averted his gaze from his roomate.
The blondes’ expression softened, a content smile on his features as he stared longfully at Alhathiam.
"What?" The scholar raised his brow at the others' antics.
Grinning to himself, Kaveh edged closer as he leant over the desk, placing a kiss on the others’ cheeks. "Nothing."
Grumbling, Alhathiam returned to his task, a pink blush on his cheeks.
Idiot,
he muttered with a sense of fondness.
