Work Text:
Yunjin considers herself a lucky person, in general. She’s had a nice childhood, with loving parents who just want her to be happy, and she was always scoring relatively good grades. She made it into her top choice of university, and she’s studying something she actually has passion for. She even has a girlfriend — the best girlfriend she could ever ask for, with her teasing words and playful punches on Yunjin’s shoulder every time Yunjin annoys her purposefully. So all in all, Yunjin considers herself lucky.
Until she doesn’t, that is. Because getting bitten by a crazed vampire on the way back to her dorm room at 2 in the morning on a Tuesday night is definitely not what Yunjin counts as lucky.
But perhaps she’s still kind of lucky, she supposes, since Chaewon (read: her beautiful, amazing, gorgeous, most perfect girlfriend) has taken all this in stride amazingly well. Yunjin doesn’t envy the rollercoaster of emotions Chaewon must’ve went through when Yunjin had shown up at her apartment, probably looking like she had seen a ghost (she might’ve been better off if she had seen one) and her eyes definitely tinged red. Yunjin doesn’t remember much else after stumbling into Chaewon’s arms, only remembering that she was safe as long as Chaewon was with her.
Supposedly, Chaewon had taken one look at the red in her eyes and made the quick decision to call Sakura, who in turn had rushed over with supernatural speed (perks of being a vampire — Yunjin can’t wait to learn how to travel freakishly fast).
The first two nights had been the worst of them all: Yunjin remembers slipping in and out of consciousness, and every time she awoke her shirt would be drenched with sweat, her mind so clouded and the white noise rushing through her ears made it hard for her to make sense of her surroundings. Yunjin thinks she would’ve lost her mind if Chaewon hadn’t been right beside her every time she opened her eyes, and if Sakura hadn’t been there to calm her down with a gentle voice, assuring her that all this was just temporary and it would be over soon.
Yunjin thought the worst part of the turning process was over, but she couldn’t have been more wrong. Sure, waking up with a barely functioning mind was terribly confusing and disorientating, but it was nothing compared to the bloodlust that followed. The constant dryness scratching at the back of her throat, the unquenchable thirst that no amount of water could help with, the pure want and need that vibrated under her skin, crawling into places she didn’t even know she could feel that much.
Yunjin thanks the heavens that she hadn’t been so weak-willed as to latch her newly grown fangs onto the nearest source of blood — she would’ve never forgiven herself if Chaewon had gotten hurt because of her. Still, it had been a tough battle with her own mind, and she’s eternally grateful for the cold bags of blood Sakura had provided. Yunjin never thought having a vampire friend would prove to be so useful, though she wishes Sakura would start teaching her how to use her super cool, super new, supernatural abilities.
(“It’s still too early, and you’re too young, Yunjin,”
“But-,”
“Nuh-uh. This is non-negotiable. I’ll teach you the ‘cool stuff’ or whatever you call it once you get used to your new body. It may not feel like it now, but trust me, there’s still a lot more you need to learn about yourself. Everything changes. Ask me again when you can control those cute little fangs of yours, heh.”
Sakura glances teasingly at Yunjin’s fangs that had unconsciously poked themselves out over her bottom lip as she was pouting. Yunjin’s face flushes with embarrassment as she tries her best to retract her fangs, getting frustrated when they don’t seem to do her bidding. Sakura just watches with amusement, finding it endearing how Yunjin starts pouting even more.
“I’ll learn quickly, just watch.” Yunjin huffs.
“I know you will, Yunny,” Sakura smiles gently, reaching up to ruffle Yunjin’s hair lightly. The nickname, coupled with the sudden show of affection, causes Yunjin’s face to heat up even more.)
It’s been just over a week since all that happened, and Yunjin likes to think she’s gotten pretty used to her new body already. She’s still kind of clumsy, her long limbs and lanky frame somehow knocking into everything she passes by, but she can feel the subtle changes. She’s a lot faster, her reaction time nearly doubled and her senses heightened to the point where it gets overwhelming sometimes.
The thirst never really goes away, just dims itself when she’s recently fed, and Yunjin has since learnt to ignore it as best as she can. It’s harder than it looks, especially when Chaewon is always somewhere near her, unwilling to let Yunjin out of her sight for more than five minutes since she’s been turned.
(“What if your abilities suddenly act up without you knowing? What if you suddenly black out like the first night? What if-,”
“Babe, I’m fine, I promise. I feel totally fine now! In fact, I feel so fine and I’m so good at using my new abilities that I can hear the way your heart is going into overdrive when I do this,” Yunjin leans in, hand tilting Chaewon’s head up. As predicted, Yunjin smirks when she picks up on Chaewon’s increasing heartbeat. Just before their lips touch, Yunjin pulls away.
“Huh Yunjin! You’re so fucking annoying, you know that?” Chaewon shrieks, already throwing feeble punches at Yunjin’s chest. All Yunjin does is laugh obnoxiously and stand there, letting herself get hit by her (very loving) girlfriend.)
All things considered, Yunjin would say she’s adjusted fairly well to the vampire lifestyle. That is, until she wakes up in the middle of the night with her throat unbelievably dry and hoarse, and swallowing her own saliva a dozen times doesn’t do anything. She knows what her body is telling her — she needs blood, and she needs it now — but she just fed this morning, she shouldn’t be feeling the thirst until the day after, at least. It feels as if there’s sandpaper scratching at her throat, and her mouth is so dry she can’t even speak. Fuck, she can barely even breathe. Her throat seems to close in on itself, restricting the air she’s trying so desperately to take in, and she can feel the back of her shirt start to get soaked with sweat. In her panic, she makes a weird half-choking sound that shakes Chaewon out of her slumber.
“…Yunjin?” Chaewon’s sweet voice calls out, still groggy from sleep but cutting through the noise in Yunjin’s ears all the same. Yunjin can’t answer her, still stuck trying to just breathe. She taps Chaewon’s arm urgently, hoping and praying that Chaewon does something, anything. Luckily, Chaewon’s always been quick on her feet.
“Oh, God. What is it? What do you need? Blood? Is that it?” Chaewon is awake instantly, voice laced with panic and urgency. Yunjin nods so quickly she thinks her neck might break. “I’ll be right back, okay? Just focus on your breathing, I’ll be quick, promise,” Chaewon says, already rushing to her kitchen. On the way, she somehow manages to dial Sakura’s number, muttering under her breath for the older to pick up. Sakura picks up on the first ring, and Chaewon’s words come out in one breath.
“Kkura! Yunjin, she’s-, I don’t know, she can’t breathe or something, says she needs blood but I’ve never seen her like this, and she just fed this morning, please-,”
“I’m coming over.” Sakura’s voice comes through grainy and muffled, but it’s all that Chaewon wants to hear right now. The line goes dead — Chaewon doesn’t know who hangs up first, but it doesn’t matter. She runs back to Yunjin who doesn’t look any better than she had a moment ago, a blood bag clutched in her hand. Chaewon practically rips it open and thrusts it into Yunjin’s mouth. Through her panicked haze, Yunjin somehow manages to gulp down the blood. Her throat slightly releases the hold it had on itself, but it’s still scratchy and raw and it’s not enough.
The cold blood is thick and somewhat stale, lacking the warmth and life that Yunjin’s body is calling out for. Yunjin supposes she can’t complain, after all, at least she’s finally able to breathe properly. Chaewon is in the middle of wiping the sweat off Yunjin’s face, stroking her hair gently and going through breathing exercises with Yunjin when Sakura somehow lets herself into Chaewon’s apartment within minutes of the phone call ending.
“Yunjin? Chaewon?” She calls out from the living room.
“In here!” Chaewon replies, and Sakura is almost immediately next to them.
“How is she?”
“Better, I think. I don’t know what happened, she was already having trouble breathing when I woke up, but I gave her a bag of blood and that seemed to help?”
“…’s not enough,” Yunjin croaks out quietly. She hadn’t wanted to say anything, hoping that the dryness in her throat would go away on its own, but it only seemed to be getting worse by the minute.
Sakura makes her way to Yunjin’s other side, putting the back of her hand against Yunjin’s forehead, cheeks, and neck.
“It’s the bloodlust. I didn’t think it would be this bad for her; newly turned vampires don’t normally feel it this intensely. Guess you’re just special, hm?” Her hand lingers a second too long on Yunjin’s already warm cheeks, and if Yunjin blushes, well — what can she say? She’s not immune to pretty girls even after becoming a vampire.
“What do we do, then? Do I just keep giving her blood bags? I don’t think my fridge has enough to last… however long the bloodlust goes on for,”
“I don’t think she’s talking about the quantity of blood when she said it’s not enough,” Sakura chuckles quietly, slender fingers brushing away the stray hairs sticking to Yunjin’s face. The amount of care and affection that she’s receiving from both Chaewon and Sakura makes her shrink into herself even further, but she can’t deny the blooming warmth in her heart when their touches are so gentle and comforting. Yunjin nods her head weakly, relieved that Sakura understands what she means.
“You mean…?” Chaewon’s eyes widen, pointing a finger to herself in question.
“You're a smart one, aren’t you?” Sakura grins and nods in response. For whatever reason, Chaewon gets flustered by Sakura’s words, averting her eyes from the older vampire’s striking gaze.
“I-Is that safe? I mean, I know she would never hurt me, but it would be her first time feeding from someone, right?” Chaewon asks, glancing between Yunjin and Sakura.
“There’s a first for everything,” Sakura shrugs. “But I trust her, and I know you do, too. Don’t worry, I’ll be right here to help you both through it.”
Sakura’s calming words work wonders for Chaewon’s thudding heart, easily soothing the nerves and worries. Knowing that Sakura will stay with them, guiding them through this, helps to relax Chaewon’s anxious state of mind.
Chaewon swallows down the ball of nerves in her throat,
“Yunjin? Are you okay with that?”
Yunjin just nods, a tired smile resting on her lips. She doesn’t have the energy to tell Chaewon that it doesn’t feel as if she has a choice right now, with the way her body is screaming at her to feed on her girlfriend now.
“Okay then. How do we…?” Chaewon trails off, unsure of how to go about doing this. After all, she’s never had to have her blood sucked out of her by a vampire. Sakura helps Yunjin to sit up with some difficulty.
“Can you control your fangs yet?” Yunjin nods proudly, baring her teeth a little to show Sakura that she has in fact learned how to control her fangs. Sakura smiles, hand still on the back of Yunjin’s neck, fingers rubbing comforting circles on her flushed skin. “Good job, maybe you’ll be able to learn the ‘cool stuff’ sooner than I thought,”
The praise goes straight to Yunjin’s head, leaving her giddy with glee. Her chest warms and her lips tug into a wide grin unconsciously. It doesn’t go unnoticed by Sakura, who just lightly pinches the skin at the back of her neck teasingly. Chaewon watches the exchange between the two, eyebrows slightly raised. She knew Yunjin liked being praised, but to be reduced to this state with just a few words? Sakura had to have been using some sort of vampiric power on her. Chaewon finds herself being curious of what it would feel like to be on the receiving end of the older vampire’s praise as well.
“On her neck, somewhere here,” Sakura places a finger on the side of Chaewon’s neck, showing Yunjin where to bite her. “Gently, alright? Just a little prick of the skin, enough to draw a slow but steady stream of blood.”
Yunjin nods, licking her lips nervously. The hand on the back of her neck moves to the back of her head, slowly guiding her towards Chaewon’s exposed neck. Glancing back up at her girlfriend for confirmation, Yunjin only finds loving eyes meeting her own, full of trust and affection. Chaewon gives Yunjin a comforting smile, nodding slightly for her to continue.
“T-Tell me if I hurt you, okay? Push me off or whatever, promise?” Yunjin says quietly. She hopes it won’t have to come to that. She hopes she has enough self-control to overcome the bloodlust.
“Promise,” Chaewon presses a kiss to Yunjin’s forehead. Despite the situation, Chaewon doesn’t feel the need to worry about getting hurt. She knows Yunjin would never hurt her — not willingly, and she places her full trust in her.
Yunjin draws closer, and closer yet. Chaewon tilts her head up, giving Yunjin easier access to her neck. Yunjin leaves a soft kiss on her skin, and Chaewon shivers. The sound of Chaewon’s heart pumping, the thrum of rushing blood lying under her milky skin, the intimacy of it all — it makes Yunjin dizzy. It’s almost too much, and all Yunjin wants to do is sink her fangs into Chaewon and drink. The promise of warm, fresh blood calls to her more than anything else. But the hand on the back of her head helps to ground her, reminding her that this is Chaewon and she would never hurt her.
“Slowly, gently. Not too deep,” Sakura’s voice floats into her ears, and Yunjin takes a deep breath. Her fangs extend as she wills them to, and they press into Chaewon’s neck, not breaking skin yet.
Chaewon’s breathing quickens, and she doesn’t realise her eyes have been squeezed shut until Sakura’s hand finds hers in the dim room, lacing their fingers together clumsily. She opens her eyes when Sakura squeezes their interlocked hands in comfort.
“Try to relax. It’ll only hurt for a moment,” She whispers to Chaewon.
Chaewon doesn’t have time to reply. Yunjin leaves a final kiss on her neck before piercing through her skin with her fangs. It stings, a sudden, sharp pain shooting through her body, making Chaewon yelp in surprise. Yunjin pauses, allowing the human some time to adjust to the pain.
“It’s okay, breathe. Relax,” Sakura says, her calming voice relaxing Chaewon’s tensed muscles. The older vampire nods at Yunjin, who had been keeping as still as possible, her fangs still sunk into Chaewon. “Drink slowly. Draw the blood out carefully,”
Yunjin follows her instructions, slowly sucking on the broken skin. The first taste she gets of Chaewon’s blood feels like heaven. It’s warm and smooth, nothing like the cold bags of thick, slightly coagulated blood she’s been drinking all this while. Chaewon tastes so sweet, and the little gasps she’s letting out as the pain melts into pleasure just spurs Yunjin on even more. Yunjin thinks she might get addicted if she keeps going. She thinks she might pass out from the high that Chaewon’s blood is giving her. She drinks, and drinks, daring to suck harder, pulling more blood into her mouth. It soothes the burning itch at the back of her throat, finally finding relief after what feels like days of dehydration. Chaewon’s blood fills her mouth, coating her tongue and going down her throat easily. Somewhere in the back of her mind, she’s aware that she needs to stop, but she ignores it in favour of tasting more of Chaewon’s blood.
“Yunjin.” A rough pull of her hair shakes her out of her haze. She stops drinking immediately, the guilt already seeping in. Sakura’s hand is still grasping the back of her head tightly, urging her away from Chaewon. Yunjin retracts her fangs quickly, scrambling backwards as soon as her fangs are out of Chaewon.
“Oh my god. I-I’m sorry,” She rushes out apology after apology, face burning with embarrassment and heart dropping to her stomach. The guilt weighs heavy on her chest, and the tears well up in her eyes before she can stop them. She can’t even bring herself to look Chaewon in the eye. The heavy breathing from Chaewon tells her all she needs to know. She hurt her. Yunjin did the one thing she promised herself she wouldn’t do.
“Yunjin,” Chaewon calls softly, reaching for her hands. Yunjin doesn’t lift her head, doesn’t say a word. “Yunjin, it’s okay. I’m okay, look. You didn’t hurt me, don’t worry.”
Yunjin just shakes her head, still looking down at her lap. Chaewon’s hand tilts her chin up, forcing her to make eye contact.
“Hey, look at me. I’m perfectly fine, see? Stop beating yourself up,” Chaewon offers her a warm smile despite the exhaustion painted across her pale face. It just makes Yunjin feel worse, and the tears are rolling down her cheeks before she knows it. Chaewon moves to brush the tears away while Sakura’s hand rubs comfortingly up and down her back. It should make Yunjin feel better, feel less guilty, but all she can think about is how she doesn’t deserve to be this cared for after what she’s done. The sniffles turn into quiet sobs, and the way Chaewon immediately gathers Yunjin into her arms just makes her sob even harder. Yunjin tries to apologise again, but her words keep getting interrupted by her hiccups, and eventually Chaewon starts shushing her gently, whispering words that Yunjin doesn’t deserve to hear into her ear.
When the sobs die down and Yunjin pulls away, she’s relieved to find that the colour has returned to Chaewon’s face.
“Are you okay?” Yunjin thinks the question shouldn’t be directed to her, but she nods nonetheless.
“Are you okay?” She asks in return.
“I’m fine, Yunjin. Don’t worry about me. It felt good while it lasted,” Chaewon laughs, trying to lighten the mood.
“Did it really?” Yunjin seems to brighten at the revelation. “It was good for me, too. Your blood tastes really nice,” She confesses, slightly embarrassed.
“It’s said that the blood of people you have deep connections with taste better,” Sakura interjects quietly. “You did good, Yunjin. It’s fairly normal to lose control of the bloodlust when you’re a first-timer, and a newly turned vampire at that. All things considered, you did really well.” She ruffles Yunjin’s hair out of habit, patting her a few times on the head for good measure.
Yunjin’s face practically burns with the amount of praise directed at her, and she has to take a moment to gather her thoughts.
“…Thanks, Kkura,” She mumbles shyly, head ducked down and refusing to make eye contact. Sakura thinks it’s incredibly endearing — how Yunjin is always reduced to a flustered mess with just a few words. The young vampire seems to glow with the praise, and Sakura wants nothing more than to shower her with more of it.
Chaewon shuffles back on the bed, leaning against the headboard as she watches the two interact. It’s surprising and refreshing to see someone else make Yunjin flustered. Usually, Chaewon just does it for shits and giggles, because she thinks Yunjin is adorable when she’s all red and shy. But Sakura’s gaze holds a different intensity as she watches Yunjin fumble for words, and Chaewon just knows Sakura enjoys it. Enjoys the panic that ensues after patting Yunjin’s head, enjoys the way Yunjin seems to malfunction for a millisecond before regaining her composure. Her lips are quirked into a tiny smirk, almost unnoticeable in the darkness of the room, but Chaewon sees it anyway. Their eyes meet briefly, and Chaewon suddenly feels hot around the collar under Sakura’s almost-red eyes.
Chaewon catches the older vampire’s eyes glance down at her neck, where the two puncture marks from Yunjin’s fangs are still open, leaving small trails of blood running down her neck. Sakura’s eyes flash red for only a second before she blinks, shaking her head lightly. Before Chaewon realises what she’s doing, the words are already spilling out of her mouth,
“Do you want to feed?”
She doesn’t really know why she offers; maybe she wants to feel it again — the rush of pain before pleasure, or maybe she just wants to feel Sakura’s lips on her skin.
“You should rest. Losing too much blood in a short time can be dangerous,” Sakura shakes her head, denying the offer, but her throat bobs as she swallows hard, and Chaewon feels like trying her luck today.
“I feel fine already. You haven’t fed in a while, have you?”
“I’ll be fine. I can feed elsewhere,” Sakura is stubborn, but Chaewon even more so.
“Or you can just feed on me,” She smiles coyly, thoroughly enjoying the way their dynamics have shifted. Sakura’s gaze is no longer sharp and tense as she avoids meeting Chaewon’s eyes.
“You need to rest,” Sakura repeats firmly.
“And you need to feed. So feed on me. You can just take a little bit of blood, I trust you to stop,” Sakura’s resolve crumbles around Chaewon’s inviting gaze and tempting words.
“Just a little.” Sakura mutters under her breath, eyes already trained on Chaewon’s neck. Chaewon hums in reply, only tilting her head up again to give the vampire more space to feed.
With the way Chaewon is seated against the headboard, Sakura is almost on top of her, straddling her as she moves closer and closer. A cold hand gently moves her head to the side, eventually coming to rest lightly around her throat. A shallow breath ghosting over the skin of her neck is all the warning that Sakura gives Chaewon before her tongue is licking away the trails of blood.
Chaewon tenses before relaxing, letting herself get used to the warm lips against her neck. Sakura starts to draw more blood out, her mouth working in earnest to be gentle and ensure that Chaewon feels good too. She lets out a quiet hum of delight when the first taste of Chaewon’s blood coats her tongue. Perhaps it’s because she hasn’t had fresh blood in weeks, or perhaps it’s because she might like Chaewon just a little, but Sakura doesn’t think she’s ever tasted blood that’s better than Chaewon’s.
Sakura keeps drinking slowly, more so kissing Chaewon’s neck rather than feeding from her, but Chaewon certainly isn’t going to complain about a pretty vampire being latched onto her. Through the haze of pleasure, Chaewon manages to open her eyes, catching sight of Yunjin watching intently beside them. Her eyes are dark and flashing a deep red, and she still hasn’t wiped off the remnants of Chaewon’s blood staining her lips.
Something about watching Sakura feed on Chaewon feels so intimate, it stirs something within Yunjin. Knowing that Sakura is drawing blood from the puncture wounds she had made with her own fangs, knowing that Sakura’s lips are exactly where Yunjin’s own lips had been a few minutes ago — it makes Yunjin lightheaded.
Sakura pulls back after a short while – too short, in Chaewon’s opinion. She had just begun to enjoy the feeling of Sakura’s lips before being pulled away from it. Chaewon knows Sakura definitely hasn’t fed enough and was just being mindful not to take too much blood from her, but she also knows Sakura will refuse to feed any more from her.
Before sitting back fully, Sakura rummages in her pocket, pulling out a plaster with Sanrio characters printed on it.
“Here,” She mutters, hands busy as she leans back in to paste it across the wounds on Chaewon.
“Cute plaster,” Chaewon chuckles, allowing herself to be fussed over as Sakura guides her to lie down on the bed, insisting that she should get some rest. Although she’s just a little lightheaded from the loss of blood, Chaewon lets Sakura’s hands sweep the stray hairs away from her face and allows Yunjin to pull the blanket over her.
“Get some sleep. Thanks for letting us feed,” Sakura says, squeezing Chaewon’s hand quickly. She starts moving away, intending on leaving the couple to their devices. Besides, she still hasn’t satiated her hunger. Chaewon reacts quickly, grabbing her hand and pulling her back onto the bed. Sakura falls ungracefully onto the mattress, nearly falling on top of Chaewon if not for her quick reflexes.
“Stay with us,” Yunjin says quietly, almost as if she were afraid to even suggest it. Chaewon’s hand doesn’t let go, and Sakura glances between the two of them, wondering if they somehow had a non-verbal conversation while she was making a move to leave.
“I don’t want to disturb you guys. It’s already the middle of the night, both of you should get some sleep,” Despite desperately wanting to stay with them, Sakura wills herself not to crumble under Chaewon’s soft touch and Yunjin’s puppy eyes. Even if she might have a silly little crush on the both of them, she wouldn’t use this situation to act on it. She may be many things, but a homewrecker isn’t one of them.
“We want you to stay.” Chaewon whispers, looking up at Sakura sleepily, the blanket already pulled up to her chin. She looks adorable, and Sakura feels her resolve slipping away from her slowly but surely. Then Chaewon is tugging lightly on her hand, eyes pleading and lips pouting, and Sakura lets out a defeated sigh,
“Alright, I’ll stay.”
Chaewon’s eyes light up and Yunjin grins, already reaching over to pull Sakura down into bed with them. Within moments, the blanket is thrown over all of them and the nightlight on the bedside table is switched off. Chaewon’s hands fumble blindly under the covers until she manages to grab both Sakura and Yunjin’s arms, pulling them over her waist so that they’re practically hugging her from both sides.
Yunjin curls her taller frame around Chaewon like she always does, and Sakura nestles her head in the crook of Chaewon’s neck. It all feels so familiar even though none of this has happened before, and having Sakura so close to her feels so right.
Chaewon can’t help but think that maybe this is how it’s meant to be — that maybe they’re meant for each other.
It only takes a moment for Chaewon to find that she’s not at all opposed to that thought.
