“It’s my turn, let go of the controller Liam!” Henry complained, attempting to snatch it out of his hand. Liam retaliated, pulling it back before standing up out of the bean bag chair and holding it above his head. “I’m playing one more round then you can have it!” He grinned at the other’s annoyed expression.
While Liam was distracted, Jake got off of Drew’s bed and came up behind him. He grabbed the controller from his hand, grinning. Liam whipped around, “Dude!” He grumbled, pouting as Jake handed it to Henry. The shorter smiled, gratefully taking it. He stared at Jake for a moment, admiring his pretty brown eyes— He snapped out of it quickly, looking away with his face reddening, if he had kept looking he would’ve noticed Jake’s faint blush, and the looks Liam and Drew exchanged at the interaction.
Henry laughed, showing off the controller to Liam. Who just smirked, not seeming interested it taking it back anymore. “I’m so good at this game, trust me you’re losing Drew.” He boasted, lying through his teeth. “Nah, Jake can play this round.” He said shrugging before handing his controller over to Jake. Jake gave him a look, one Henry couldn’t quite decipher, before taking it.
Drew walked over to sit beside Liam, who was giggling and whispering something under his breath. Henry raised an eyebrow at his best friend. Who started laughing even more, a smirk on his face. Henry rolled his eyes and sat down on Drew’s bed, Jake sitting beside him. “I’m definitely winning.” Henry promised, lightly shoving Jake. Jake grinned, “We’ll see.”
“Why’d we make the two worst players of this game play against each other again?” Drew asked in a whisper, his annoyance evident. “For the plot.” Drew groaned, placing his head in his hands.
Jake and Henry were playing the game, horribly. Two more rounds could’ve been played in the time they had been fighting, but they had barely done any damage to eachother yet. “Why’d we even choose this game? It sucks!” Jake complained. “You two just don’t know how to play.” Drew replied blankly. Jake looked back at him with annoyance, “Oh yeah? Why don’t we play—“
“ HA! I killed you!” Henry suddenly said, “I told you I’d win!” Jake whipped around to face the game again, groaning. “That’s not fair, I wasn’t looking!” Henry turned to face him on the bed, “That’s not my problem—“ he started, closing his eyes and talking with a wide grin. Jake pushed him, not realizing he’d go tumbling right off the bed.
Henry groaned from where he fell in the floor, laying out more dramatically than what was needed. Jake immediately jumped and went over to him, while Liam was practically crying laughing. Jake ignored him. “Henry! Are you okay?” He asked worriedly. Without thinking, he gently brushed Henry’s hair out of his face, resting his hand on Henry’s forehead. “I—“ Henry started, face turning bright red.
Jake realized what he was doing a few seconds too late, finally pulling his hand away as he face burned bright red. Henry looked away, “Yeah I’m okay.” He mumbled out.
Behind them, Liam was laughing as he let Drew see his phone. He had taken a picture of Jake, pretty much, caressing Henry’s face. Though neither Jake or Henry paid them any mind.
“I’m not forgiving you for this.” Henry said dramatically as he regained his composure, finally sitting up. Jake let out a small laugh, rolling his eyes. “Whatever. Rematch?” The other boy agreed and they both got back onto the bed. They didn’t think about Drew or Liam wanting to play, and neither of the boys said a thing about it.
Jake slipped off his jacket and laid it behind him, now only in his usual tanktop. Henry couldn’t help but look at him, eyes drifting along Jake’s arms and chest. He quickly looked away, attempting to snap himself out of it. “Jakey,” He started with a grin, “I know something you could do for me to forgive you.” Jake raised an eyebrow at him, smiling. “And what’s that?”
“Give me your jacket!” Henry said, reaching for it in the same breath. Jake grabbed it first, “You literally have a jacket on right now.” He responded, unimpressed. Henry frowned, giving him puppy dog eyes. “We can swap.” Jake laughed, giving in and handing over his jacket. “Like your jacket would fit me anyways.” Henry ignored the comment, quickly putting Jake’s jacket on in place of his own.
“I look so much better with this than you.” He grinned widely, not noticing Jake blushing profusely at the sight. “Uh huh. When I die because it’s freezing cold out, blame yourself.” Henry was unbothered, clicking start on the game, which Jake had partly forgotten about. “Hey I wasn’t ready!”
The next day Henry still wore Jake’s jacket, having left his own at Drew’s by accident. It was a little big on him, but comfortable. It smelled like Jake. He tried to pretend he didn’t like that fact, or even noticed it for that matter. As he was walking down the hall to meet up with Drew, Liam, and Jake, he ran into Milly.
“Oh hey letttuce b—“ she trailed off, eyeing the jacket. She raised an eyebrow, a mischievous grin spreading across her face. “Is that Jake’s jacket your wearing?” She asked, causing Henry to blush slightly, but he played it off. “Yes, he let me wear it as an apology.” He started, causing Milly to look at him confusedly.
“We were playing a game, and he got mad when I won, and he pushed me off the bed.” Henry scoffed as he dramatically retold the story. Milly nodded along, “Mhmm…interesting.” She smirked. She noticed him blushing, and his smirk widened even more. “I thought Jake still liked Daisy, but I guess I was wrong.” Henry’s face turned red in an instant. “What do you mean?” He laughed awkwardly, “He does like Daisy.”
Milly just grinned, taking her phone out and taking a picture, Henry attempted to cover his face, blushing profusely. His blush was still obvious in the picture, as was the jacket he was wearing. “Delete that!” He urged, trying to reach for her phone. Milly laughed before hurrying away, not giving Henry a chance to catch up.
When Jake entered the club room everything was normal, except for the fact Milly was staring him down like a hawk, grinning wildly. He raised an eyebrow with a confused expression. The club had nothing to practice for recently, so the past few days they just hung out in the music room, talking and trying to play random songs for fun. Today seemed like a talking day, based on how Zander and Luke were sitting together, scrolling through Lukes phone, Hailey, Sean, and Milly beside them talking, all sitting together in the floor.
“Where’s your jacket Jake?” Milly asked, holding back a fit of laughter as he walked over to them. The rest of the club, minus Zander, perked up with curious expressions. “Yeah you always wear it, why don’t you have it today?” Jake looked away, a light blush across his face. “Uh, I didn’t want to wear it today.” He shrugged. Milly smirked, “Oh really? And I guess someone else did?” Even Zander seemed interested now, raising an eyebrow curiously.
The blush on his face was obvious now. He awkwardly laughed, eyes darting all around the room to avoid meeting anyone’s eyes. “Oh, did you finally get with Daisy?” Hailey asked with a grin. “No! Milly I have no clue what you’re talking about.” Jake hissed, clearly trying to tell Milly to not say anything. She laughed, clearly not listening. “So you have no clue why Henry is wearing your jacket, then?”
Everyone in the club gaped in shock, clearly not expecting that. Jake’s face was burning red, “ Milly!” He cried, not having anything to say to defend himself. “I have proof too!” She proudly said, pulling out her phone and showing everyone the picture of Henry. Jake blushed as he seen it. He tried not to think about how cute Henry looked wearing his clothes. The club gathered around to look at it, now extremely interested.
“Wait. Are you and Henry..” Sean couldn’t finish, because Jake immediately cut him off. “ NO! ” He yelled. Everyone looked at him with unimpressed expressions. “We aren’t!” He repeated. Milly shrugged, “Yeah, but you clearly like each other.”
Jake was silent for a few beats, still red in the face. “He doesn’t like me like that.” He said bluntly, clearly somehow believing it. Luke laughed at this, “So you do like him?” He asked. Jake groaned, “No!” No one believed him. “He definitely likes you back Jake, let’s be real.” Jake continued to deny it, causing a daily occurrence of being teased for his crush.
The next day when Henry gave the jacket back to Jake, Hailey happened to be walking by them in the halls, giving Jake a knowing grin. At lunch Drew, Liam, and Henry had decided to come with Jake to the music club. Since the two groups were on good terms now, he wasn’t bothered by this.
Until they walked in and the club instantly grinned, exchanging sly glances. “Are y’all alright with them hanging out here today?” Everyone agreed, “We aren’t doing anything anyways.” Hailey shrugged.
Jake had started talking to Sean, Drew and Henry talking with Hailey and Milly, while Liam was talking to Luke and Zander. When all of a sudden, Milly grinned, “So you gave Jake his hoodie back today?” She asked, purposely loud. Henry blushed. Jake instantly looked over, fearing what Milly was trying to do. “Obviously, Mills, I’m wearing it.”
“Bet you wish he was wearing it instead.” Jake’s face turned crimson, shooting Milly a glare. “Haha, real funny.” He grumbled, rolling his eyes. Liam laughed, turning towards them. “Henry kept talking about how soft your jacket was yesterday, he was also saying—“
“ Nothing! I wasn’t saying anything, Liam.” Henry quickly butted in, his face bright red. Jake and Henry looked at eachother for a moment, making eye contact before blushing and quickly looking away.
“I’m going to head to the bathroom real quick.” Hailey suddenly said, eyeing Milly. Milly instantly understood, “Yeah I’m coming with you.” They quickly walked out, and the rest of the group realized what they were doing. “Me and Zander actually have to work on a project for a class..” Luke poorly explained, hurrying out with Zander. “I have to go too, cya.” Sean said. Drew and Liam came up with a lame excuse too, hurrying out and shutting the door behind them.
Unbeknownst to Henry and Jake, they had all gathered at the lockers beside the club door, trying their best to listen in without being seen.
“They were definitely all lying.” Henry scoffed. Jake smiled at him, “Obviously, idiot.” He teased, trying to ignore how fast his heart was beating. “You’re just mad I realized first.” Henry boasted, grinning widely. Jake loved his smile. There was a beat of silence before Jake spoke up.
“Uh, did you like wearing my jacket?” He asked, rubbing his neck awkwardly. Henry’s face turned a bright red, “I, uhm—“ He stumbled over his words, eyes darting around the room. “What would you do if I did?” He murmured. Jake smiled slightly, face still a deep shade of red. He moved a step closer to Henry.
Almost subconsciously, Henry did the same. They were inches apart, and Jake gently took Henry’s hand in his own. “I’d let you wear it all the time.” He assures, leaning down some to be face to face with Henry. “Uhm, can I..” Henry trails off, eyes flickering down to Jake’s lips. The taller nods, cupping Henry’s face with his hands.
Henry presses his lips against his, placing a hand on Jake’s shoulder. Jake kisses back, heart fluttering. Then suddenly, the door is slammed open, “Finally!” Milly groans, the rest of the group trails in a few seconds later. “You ruined their moment Milly.” Sean sighed, though he was grinning. Milly shrugged, not seeming to care.
Jake and Henry jumped away from each other, their faces unbelievably red. Jake puts his face in his hands exhaustedly, “Seriously you guys?”
