It wasn’t a surprise that both Tsukasa and Rui were singled out for their chance to play “Seven minutes in heaven.” The two were practically attached at the hip, and separating them would be far too cruel.
Tsukasa’s grip on Rui’s wrist tightened as he rounded a corner to the designated closet. Emu’s residence had been tactfully decorated with oranges and purples and greens for the holiday; fake cobwebs spotted the door, overlaying tacky “warning: zombies inside!” caution tape. Slightly unnerved by the obnoxious amount of cobwebs Emu had filled her house with, Tsukasa put his unease to the side. He was given a task and he was going to fulfill that task.
That task being to kiss Rui Kamishiro.
It wasn’t something he’d never done before. In fact, the two of them found themselves exploring each other’s mouths more often than he could count. It started off with a simple stage kiss. Then, as time passed, the two of them got braver with it. They would kiss at school when no one was looking, after practice in the dressing rooms, and on Rui’s couch whenever Tsukasa would come over to keep him company in his garage. This was simply something that their friendship allowed.
Tsukasa turned the doorknob and opened the door. Luckily, the closet was void of any potentially frightening Halloween decorations. It only held a few coats and some shoes. He didn’t say anything as he pulled Rui into the closet with him.
“You’re being awfully forward, Tsukasa-kun,” Rui mused, his figure disappearing as the door shut behind them.
Tsukasa reached forward to find Rui’s chest, carefully snaking his hand upward to his cheek. “You’ve been giving me that look all night. You’re driving me crazy,” he responded, sounding slightly annoyed.
He lifted his heels off the ground to give Rui a soft kiss, thankful for the few extra centimeters of height his shoes gave him. He could feel the smile on Rui’s lips.
“You can kiss me whenever you want, you know.”
Tsukasa answered with another kiss, more forceful this time. Rui’s arms wrapped around the blonde, sneaking his hands up the back of his hoodie to rest on his thin undershirt. He returned the kiss, sighing contentedly.
By the time Tsukasa pulled away his eyes were already adjusting to the darkness. He could see the outline of Rui’s face, the faint blush spread across his cheeks, and his impossibly blown pupils. “You are really pretty,” he muttered, probably making a stupider face than he realized.
The color on Rui’s cheeks deepened. “What’s this..?”
Tsukasa didn’t want him to continue with his thought. He smashed their lips back together, pushing Rui against the wall. Once he overcame his initial surprise, Rui lowered himself a little bit down the wall, giving Tsukasa easier access. Tsukasa slotted a knee between his legs and a hand against the wall next to Rui’s side to keep him firmly pinned in place. Tsukasa lapped at Rui’s lips, who quickly parted his mouth to let him inside.
It’s not that Tsukasa never complimented him. He did so quite often, actually. Rui Kamishiro was the smartest person he knew. He was an amazing director, and Tsukasa made sure he understood that. Rui was also surprisingly sweet, once you got past the whole “can I shoot you out of a cannon, Tsukasa-kun?” thing. Rui was no stranger to Tsukasa’s praise.
But Rui really was pretty. Tsukasa always thought that, he generally thought everyone did. There was an elegance to Rui’s movements that enchanted him. It was hard to keep his eyes off of him while he was on the stage. His voice was beautiful, too. Whether he was singing, acting, or just having a conversation, Tsukasa couldn’t get enough of it. It’d be too embarrassing to tell Rui any of this. He doesn’t know why he just did. They were best friends after all; best friends who just happened to kiss sloppy when no one was looking.
His tongue hungrily explored his best friend’s mouth. He ran his thumb alongside Rui’s jawline, his tongue dancing alongside Rui’s. The sweet noises escaping from his throat were intoxicating, inviting Tsukasa for more. He had seven minutes to make out with Rui, and he was going to make those seven minutes count, damnit!!
He was only stopped by the tugging of his shirt collar. He broke away, finally taking in a deep breath of air. Tsukasa could feel Rui’s chest heaving against his own.
“Are you trying to kill me?!” Rui gasped, his voice low.
Tsukasa ignored his question, leaning forward to lick away the stray strand of saliva dangling from Rui’s lips. Rui clutched at his shirt, whining. Tsukasa could practically feel the heat radiating off his face.
The closet was silent for the next couple of minutes, aside from the sounds of Tsukasa pressing wet kisses all over Rui’s face and neck. It’s all he’s been wanting to do all night, ever since Rui’s been staring at him with those gorgeous, golden eyes and cute, sly smile. If Rui was going to explode from overheating, that was a problem for future Tsukasa to figure out.
It was Rui who eventually interrupted the silence.
“So, you think I’m pretty?”
Tsukasa looked up from where he was kissing on his neck. He wasn’t sure how he was going to answer. You’d think it wouldn’t be so embarrassing to admit after he’d covered Rui in his own slobber.
His voice cracked. “Y-yeah.”
Rui brought his hand up, tangling his fingers in the blonde’s hair. He gently massaged his scalp, causing Tsukasa’s heart rate to inexplicably quicken. He laid his head against Rui’s shoulder. He heard the taller giggle.
“That’s not a very ‘best friends’ thing to say, Tsukasa-kun,” he teased.
Tsukasa simply grunted in response.
Rui continued. “But that’s okay. I don’t care what we are, as long as I get to be by your side.” He scratched behind Tsukasa’s ears, who melted into the touch. “I feel happy around you, Tsukasa-kun.”
He wouldn’t let Rui turn the tables like this. It wasn’t supposed to be him who was a flustered mess.
Ignoring his rapid heartbeat, he crashed Rui’s lips against his own once again. Rui’s grin parted and Tsukasa’s tongue slipped inside. He pressed his chest into Rui’s as the two moved their mouths together. Rui’s formerly relaxed grip tightened, running his hands up and down Tsukasa’s back. He remained trapped between the cold wall and Tsukasa’s warm body.
Unfortunately, their kiss would last only a few seconds longer. The familiar darkness of the closet was penetrated by a bright light from the hallway outside.
“.. Ew.”
Tsukasa cut off the kiss, pulling his tongue from Rui’s mouth but keeping him firmly against the wall. The two boys made direct eye contact with Nene, who still had her hand on the doorknob. She looked displeased, but not entirely surprised. Akito stood behind her, averting his eyes and looking equally as displeased.
“It’s been seven minutes,” she prompted, her words finally clearing the fog from the blonde’s head and snapping him from his greedy daze.
Tsukasa let Rui go, taking a step back away from his hold. His director immediately slid to the floor, his face beet-red and covered in dark lipstick marks. Tsukasa felt the gears shift in his head as he pressed his fingers to his own lips and pulled them away. He forgot about the make-up he was wearing for his costume.
Nene gave Akito’s shoulder a gentle shove. “Let’s go back to the group. They’ll figure it out,” she spoke, directing him back toward the living room.
The two left Tsukasa and Rui in the open closet. Tsukasa put his hand over his mouth, looking deep in thought, cheeks lightly dusted pink.
“Do you think they’re onto us..?” he questioned, looking down at Rui with a very serious expression. As close as the two of them were, they kept most of their physical affection behind closed doors.
He was taken aback by Rui’s laugh, much louder than his usual chuckle. His eyes widened and he put his hands on his hips.
“What’s so funny?!” Tsukasa almost shouted. “This is serious !”
Rui had to cover his mouth to stifle his giggles. “We haven’t been that stealthy, Tsukasa-kun. I think everyone at this party already knows.”
“HUH?”
Picking himself off the ground, Rui closed the distance between himself and the flabbergasted Tsukasa. He pressed a sweet, short kiss to Tsukasa’s lips. “Don’t worry about it, Star,” he smiled.
Tsukasa’s heart jumped at the nickname. Even so, he put on a pout. “Don’t tell me that! I am going to worry about it!”
Rui took Tsukasa’s hand in his own. “We’ll talk about it after the party, yeah?” he reassured, squeezing his hand. “We don’t want it to look like we’re playing ‘Fourteen minutes in heaven’ or anything.”
Tsukasa gave a small nod, softly smiling. He let Rui lead him back to the living room where everyone else was gathered.
They’d let the lipstick speak for itself.
