Work Text:
Kaveh had been pouting ever since Alhaitham texted him earlier, letting him know that he’d be working late again. It wasn’t that Kaveh didn’t understand—it’s just that he missed him. A lot. With a sigh, he decided he wasn’t going to just sit around and wait for Alhaitham to come home in the middle of the night again. He was going to take matters into his own hands.
So, he spent the next hour preparing a homemade dinner for Alhaitham—something simple but comforting, just to let him know that Kaveh was thinking of him. After packing it up nicely, he called for a taxi and headed straight to Alhaitham’s office.
When Kaveh reached the front desk, the woman behind the counter barely glanced up from her paperwork. “Do you have an appointment?” she asked, sounding bored.
“Uh... not exactly,” Kaveh started, scratching the back of his neck. “I’m here to see Alhaitham.”
The woman raised an eyebrow, clearly unimpressed. “And you are...?”
“Kaveh,” he said confidently. When she just stared at him blankly, he quickly added, “His husband.”
Her skepticism was almost palpable. “Husband, huh?”
Kaveh nodded, his heart racing slightly as he smiled. “Yes. His husband. You know, the one who makes him lunch, reminds him to sleep, and... you know, keeps him from getting too grumpy?”
She eyed him for a long moment, clearly not buying it right away. But Kaveh was nothing if not persistent. “Look, I know he probably didn’t mention it because he’s so private about things, but I swear, I’m his husband,” Kaveh said, trying to look as sincere as possible. The woman hesitated, her eyes narrowing before she finally sighed and waved him through. “Fine. Just don’t cause any trouble, alright?”
Kaveh beamed. “Thank you!” he chirped, quickly making his way down the hall.
On his way to Alhaitham’s office, Kaveh bumped into someone—an employee by the looks of it, judging by his tired expression. The man looked up, blinking in surprise.
“Careful there,” Kaveh said, trying to steady himself. “I’m in a bit of a rush.”
The man, whose name tag read Sethos, gave Kaveh a curious look. “You’re here to see the boss?”
Kaveh nodded. “Yep. He’s working late, so I thought I’d drop by.”
Sethos winced, shoving his hands into his pockets. “Good luck with that. Alhaitham’s been in a pretty foul mood all evening. Scared the entire team into staying late.”
Kaveh blinked, then laughed softly. “Foul mood? That’s hard to believe.”
Sethos raised an eyebrow. “Trust me, you’ve never seen him mad, have you? He’s terrifying when he’s angry.”
Kaveh chuckled to himself. Terrifying? The Alhaitham he knew was calm, sweet, and patient. He found it ironic that others saw him as this intimidating figure. “I think I’ll be fine,” Kaveh said with a knowing smile. “Thanks, though.”
Sethos just shook his head as Kaveh continued down the hallway. When he finally reached Alhaitham’s office, he knocked softly before pushing the door open.
Alhaitham’s voice was low, and there was a certain coldness to it as he said, “I thought I told you not to disturb me again—”
But when his eyes landed on Kaveh standing in the doorway, his gaze softened immediately. His voice dropped, all traces of frustration melting away. “Kaveh?”
Kaveh smiled sheepishly, stepping inside while holding up the packed dinner. “I thought you might be hungry... so I brought you something to eat.”
Alhaitham’s tense shoulders visibly relaxed. “You didn’t have to.”
“I wanted to,” Kaveh said as he walked over to the desk. He glanced at the stack of papers scattered across it, frowning. “Looks like you’ve been stressed, huh?”
Alhaitham sighed, rubbing the bridge of his nose. “It’s been... a long day.”
“Well, it’s about to get better,” Kaveh chirped. He set the dinner down and gave Alhaitham a pointed look. “I’m going to feed you.”
Alhaitham raised an eyebrow. “You’re going to feed me?”
“Yes, because you look like you haven’t eaten properly all day,” Kaveh said, his tone leaving no room for argument.
A small, amused smile tugged at the corners of Alhaitham’s lips as he let Kaveh guide him to the chair. He sat down, allowing him to take the lead. Kaveh perched himself comfortably on Alhaitham’s lap, opening the container of food with a flourish. Alhaitham’s hands instinctively wrapped around Kaveh’s waist, holding him gently.
As Kaveh started feeding him small bites, Alhaitham’s stress seemed to melt away with each mouthful. The warmth of Kaveh’s presence, combined with the comforting food, was enough to ease the tension that had been building up all day.
“You’re a life-saver,” Alhaitham mumbled between bites, his voice quieter now, almost tender.
Kaveh smiled, brushing a stray hair away from Alhaitham’s face. “Just looking out for you. You work too hard.”
They stayed like that for a while, Kaveh feeding Alhaitham and occasionally teasing him whenever Alhaitham tried to take the fork from his hand. Eventually, after they finished the meal, Kaveh leaned back against Alhaitham’s chest, letting out a soft sigh.
“Feel better?” Kaveh asked, tilting his head to look at him.
Alhaitham hummed in agreement, pressing a soft kiss to Kaveh’s temple. “Much better.”
Kaveh gave him a satisfied smile, resting his head on Alhaitham’s shoulder. “Good. Now let’s relax for the rest of the night, okay? No more work.”
Alhaitham tightened his hold around Kaveh’s waist, leaning his forehead against Kaveh’s. “Sounds like a plan.”
They spent the rest of the evening in Alhaitham’s office, Kaveh occasionally murmuring words of encouragement and comfort while Alhaitham held him close, his earlier stress fading into the background. By the time they were ready to leave, Kaveh had fallen asleep in Alhaitham’s arms, the long day finally catching up to him.
Alhaitham smiled softly, brushing a stray lock of hair from Kaveh’s face before carefully standing up, lifting him bridal-style in his arms. Kaveh stirred slightly but didn’t wake up, his head resting peacefully against Alhaitham’s chest. As Alhaitham carried him out of the office, he noticed a few curious stares from passing employees. Without saying a word, he shot them a glare so fierce that they quickly looked away, pretending they hadn’t seen anything.
Once they reached the car, Alhaitham carefully placed Kaveh in the passenger seat, adjusting him so he could rest comfortably for the ride home. As he drove, Alhaitham couldn’t help but glance over at the sleeping form beside him, a small smile playing at his lips.
When they finally arrived home, Alhaitham once again lifted Kaveh into his arms, carrying him inside with the same care. Kaveh stirred slightly in his sleep, mumbling something incoherent before nuzzling closer to Alhaitham’s chest. Alhaitham chuckled softly, pressing a kiss to Kaveh’s forehead before carrying him to bed, content in the warmth of their shared moment.
