Work Text:

“I don’t think that looks right,” Heatwave said while the others hover over his shoulder.

On the counter is a plate of something that probably isn’t safe for humans. It’s grey and lumpy with burnt pieces that could be food. At this point, Heatwave wasn’t sure anymore and the others appear to be in the same boat as him.

Since revealing the existence of Holoforms to the Burns family – and unknowingly to the island – the bots have been finding themselves using these forms a whole lot more than they had before. It works for the most part and gives them the ability to do more in a rescue sometimes. Which is kinda how they found themselves in this mess.

The Chief had invited them to go fishing with the family which the bots had gladly accepted and wanted to do something to show that. Blades had suggested cards – which is looking like the better option right now – but Boulder suggested that they should make breakfast for the family, stating ‘how hard could it be?’

Pretty damn hard, actually.

Blades was the only one actually paying attention to cooking shows and the lessons that Chief would give Cody; leaving him with pancake duty. While Heatwave, Chase, and Boulder work together in making bacon and eggs. At some point, Chase had abandoned Boulder and Heatwave to work on setting the table when the fire alarm had gone off the first time.

Luckily, Heatwave managed to disarm it before it could wake the whole family.

“No, it looks sad.” Boulder sighs and end up sitting on the ground. “Chief makes it look so easy.”

“It’s really not,” Blades chimes in while finishing another pancake with something in it before putting the pan into the sink. “Everyone has to learn from somewhere, and some don’t have the skill for cooking.”

“Do I even want to know what you four are doing?”

That caused everyone to freeze in what they are doing to turn to the doorway to see Chief Burns – already dressed for the day – standing there. He doesn’t look upset just curious about what the bots were doing, which made them relax.

Chase finish setting out the last of the plates; “sir, we were making breakfast for everyone.”

“It’s meant to be a thank you,” Heatwave said while moving to stand in front of his team. He knows that the Chief isn’t going to do anything but something within his spark still told him to protect them from harm. “But it turns out to be harder than we first thought.”

“No apology needed, Heatwave.” The Chief glance at the mess of maybe food, Heatwave isn’t sure anymore. “How about I help you while Blades and Chase finish with setting the table.”

By the time food is ready, Cody and Graham came through the door – discussing some homework that Cody have due soon – while Kade and Dani were arguing about something. Though they all stop when they finally notice the table which have plates of food set out.

“Wow, Dad, you never go out for breakfast,” Dani said while taking a seat.

Cody went straight over to the bots, who are standing together in the corner. He got pulled into Heatwave’s side and chose to stay there while his siblings went about putting food on their plate. Blades had grabbed a plate with food already on it which he hands to Cody, who gives his thanks before taking a spot next to his dad and Kade.

“Actually, the bots made it.”

“You guys know how to cook?” Graham question, taking a moment to properly look at the food he has grabbed.

“Chief helped,” Heatwave stated. “It’s our way of saying thank you for accepting us.”

The Chief had mention for the bots to take a seat since there’s more then enough room for them. It takes them a moment – unsure if they really should – before finding a spot at the table.

Quickly, it turns into friendly conversation that’ll turn into a rescue but that would be a later thing.
