Chapter Text
Pale sunlight of early morning dawn filled the kitchen as the aroma of eggs filled the room.
A large muscular man was standing over the stove, in his hand a frying pan was secured nicely along with the sizzling eggs held within it, the cause of the aroma that filled the kitchen.
Another man sat in a wheelchair and was reading a newspaper as he sat by the table in the center of the room, his red hair slightly bouncing with each slight movement of his head.
The two had said nothing to each other this entire time.
It had been almost an hour.
This was the typical domestic morning for Jotaro Kujo and Noriaki Kakyoin.
Kakyoin, however, decided to ask Jotaro something at this moment. “Hey Jojo?” He casually asked.
Jotaro simply replied “yeah?” eyes not looking away from the cooking eggs.
Kakyoin lightly tapped the table for a simple moment.
“Wanna get married?” he replied in a tone that was more similar to someone asking what the weather was going to be that day.
Now anyone else would have dropped what they were doing, run over and basically crush anyone who asked them to get married in a massive bear hug all the while shouting yes.
Jotaro Kujo was not one of those people.
He didn't even look up from the eggs, instead the man let out a small ‘hm’ before he gave a simple, almost casual sounding “sure.” And the two left it at that.
But the two of them, without words. Deciding to discuss this later after all.
Breakfast was not the time to discuss wedding plans.
After breakfast though? Fair game.
“So,what spurred this on?” Jotaro asked, grabbing Noriaki’s and his own dishes, about to wash them. Noriaki simply just glanced up at Jotaro.
“Well we might as well,” he replied in a logical tone as he grabbed a plate and handed it over to Jotaro. “The two of us have almost died multiple times, so better late than never”
Jotaro simply let out a small hum to approval, that actually was true now that he thought of it. The two of them had almost died and were now left with scars as a result.
Noriaki was now paraplegic due to the hole that had been punched into his torso along with the fact he had been in a coma for nearly over 10 years due to it. While Jotaro had been put into a coma for months and now had a large scar over one half of his face, nearly losing his sight in that sides eye. And that wasn't mentioning their multitude of other scars they had gained over the years
So yeah, better late than never he supposed.
Jotaro walked over to the sink, carefully placing the dishes into it and turned the faucet to the left before quickly grabbing some rags and dish soap.
As he began to wash them, he started to think about what this wedding would be like, as while he had been married in the past, that wedding was kinda small, being mostly friends and family. And was also almost entirely rushed. But what else would you expect when the entire event was quickly literally just a shotgun wedding that was dressed in its sunday best.
But while he knew what Noriaki liked (cherries, the color shiny green, sting and video games), but didn't know his plans for what his idea of a perfect wedding would be, though Jotaro admittedly didn't have any ideas for himself before he got married
But then again he also didn't think of getting hitched at the ripe old age of 21 due to accidently knocking a girl he slept with once, Did he?
And while 17 (and even 21) year old Jotaro would (and did) just grunt and try to figure out what to do on his own. 40 year old Jotaro Kujo was much more relaxed and willing to talk to people (at least he hoped he was)
So, as he began to scrub the first plate, he slightly turned his head to Noriaki, and rather simply asked “so, how would you like it to be?”
At this point Nori let out a simple ‘hmm’ , his face gaining a look that he was giving it some thought.
“If it were to admit, I've never really thought all that much about marriage.” he looked down a little, not really focusing on anyone or thing in particular “mostly because I wasn't really close to anyone that wasn't family.” Noriaki looked up at Jotaro. “though that's obviously changed.” he let out a small stilted giggle
Jotaro simply sighed, part of him didn't expect much else. Knowing how Noriaki had grown up due to his stand. Though that didn't mean it didn't sting a little bit.
“So..” Noriaki began, “what would you want the wedding to be like?” He said casually, curious about what Jojo wanted.
Jotaro looked up at that and began to think. His mind went to his last wedding…and what an utter disaster it was. He took a breath as he came up with an answer.
“Simple.” He answered. “Something simple and nice.” he grabbed another dish and began to clean it.
“Really?” Noriaki replied, a light surprise clear in his voice. “Knowing you I thought it was going to be dolphin themed or something similar ”
Ok that got Jotaro to let out a slight chuckle. Admittedly if he got to actually plan his last wedding and it wasn't rushed. It was going to be dolphin themed. But after everything he had gone through, after everything they had gone through.
They deserved a fucking break.
And a simple, nice wedding was about as much of a break that he could think could happen to them at this point.
“I just think we deserve it” he grabbed another plate as he put the now fully cleaned one down.
Nori let out a slight hum of approval, almost as if he thought back onto what happened over the last couple decades. “You got that right.”
After a few seconds of silence. Of just the two of them thinking about what to do for the future wedding, Noriaki asked a rather important question.
“So,who should we invite?”
At this point Jotaro was done with the dishes, beginning the put away. He began to think about it, the ceremony itself. He had a couple ideas on who to invite.
But there was one thing that needed to be set in stone.
“I think we should discuss it but JiJi is definitely not invited.” Jotaro went over and sat at a table, Noriaki stared at him wide eyed.
“Really? But isn't he your grandfather? Also he traveled and fought with us for 50 days. Why isn't he invited?”
Jotaro let out a sigh, as he began his explanation as to why “I have nothing against him, none at all. It's just the old man has no sense of control at any type of event. Formal or informal.” he let out a deep sigh as the memories of what happened resurfaced “Let's just say at my last wedding he basically made it so no one wanted to invite him to another well, anything. Ever again.”
Noriaki's eyes widened. “Jojo, you just made me curious, what happened?” his head slightly tilted.
Jotaro thought of what had happened, even debating on where to start with that personal shitshow.
Noriaki noticed the silence, “you don't wanna talk about it? It's fine if you don't.”
Jotaro simply nodded his head, while it was true, he could talk about it. He legitimately didn't even know where to begin to describe how bad it had gotten, as it seemed that every minor thing that could have gone wrong somehow did. It had been that much of a disaster from start to finish.
In fact, Jotaro guessed he really didn't wanna talk about it in a way.
“Yeah, let's get back on track” Jotaro pulled out a chair and sat on it.
A small smile appeared on Noriaki’s face “Jolyne's definitely invited?”
“Yeah,” while in the past Jolyne and him weren't the closest family, the two had managed to get closer, he also felt it could destroy all the progress made to mend their relationship if he failed to invite his own daughter to his wedding.
“Lets also invite Josuke and his friends,” he began before thinking a bit. “Also Jolyne's friends” he just knew that Jolyne would have brought them with her anyway even if he didn't invite them.
“Yeah,” Noriaki replied. Beginning to roll over towards the lower cabinets on the left side of the room. “Any other ideas?” he continued, opening one of the cabinets and pulled out a small box of coffee grinds.
“Well, my parents are also going to be invited..obviously.” Jotaro grabbed a chair and sat on it.
“You're grandma too?” Noriaki grabbed two cups from a cupboard. After that he began to roll over to the coffee maker on the counter.
“Yeah, and Shizuka as well.” Jotaro thought a bit before continuing “also Hayato and his mother”
“Hayato?” Noriaki questioned as began to pour the coffee grinds into the machine. After he was done he grabbed two cups and a pot and rolled over to the stove, placed the two cups down before going over to the sink as he began to pour some water into it.
Jotaro blinked and took a breath, “you know the Morioh case? The one in 1999? The one I told you about.”
“Yea-” Noriaki began, he was about to place the pot onto the stove. When he stopped and turned to Jotaro, a look of concern and slight horror were clear on his face. “...Hayato…his last name doesn't happen to be Kawajiri? Right?....”
Jotaro looked at him before he closed his eye, “I think you already know the answer to that question..”
Noriaki took a breath as he continued what he was doing. Placing the pot on the sizzling stove top “I can only guess how…traumatic.. that was to him.” he grabbed some milk. There was a clear sympathetic tone to his voice.
“Yeah, it was.. the kid’s still in therapy.” Jotaro replied, he closed his eyes “he didn't deserve to go through what happened. And I'm sure he wouldn't mind being invited to a simple wedding,”
“Yeah,” Noriaki went over to the fridge and grabbed a milk jug. Before he went over and grabbed the freshly grinded coffee grinds.
Jotaro thought a bit and sighed “sorry for ruining the mood-” he began before Nori cut him off.
“It's fine Jojo, it's fine really,” Noriaki explained as he took the now boiling water off the stove top and began to pour the coffee grinds in. “At least he's getting help now.”
“Yeah…” Jotaro replied as he began to get lost in thought, he thought back to everything over the past 22 years, from Green Dolphin, to whatever the hell had been going on in Italy, to Morioh.
To Egypt.
He took a deep breath as began to think and recall that, yeah, what happened in Egypt was kinda messed up considering he and Kakyoin were only about 17 at the time. He obviously didn't blame Jiji for taking him there, as he was pretty sure he wouldn't have met Noriaki any other way along with the simple fact his mother may very well not be alive right now.
But it was still rather messed up that two teenagers, an old man, two adults and a dog had to go on a dangerous trip to make sure a crazed vampire didn't take over the entire world.
And considering 3 of them almost died on that trip and had the scars to show it? Yeah…
As Noriaki began to pour some milk into one of the mugs, Jotaro remembered just how…disturbing some of the enemies they fought were.
Steely Dan was a creepy asshole who most likely would have ended up behind bars at some point if he wasn't one of Dio’s minions. Alessi was a child murderer, J. Geil…Jotaro clenched his fists as he remembered him..
considering he himself now had a daughter? He honestly wishes now that Polnareff had made his death worse.
And then there was DIO himself…he took a deep breath as he thanked whatever luck they had during that time that not only did they win. But that DIO was gone…
Considering the entire reason they had gone to Egypt. The entire reason they had to spend 50 days fighting through droves of enemies. The reason Noriaki was now paraplegic and Avdol had prosthetic arms?
Was because of some Englishman's vendetta against his great great Grandpa.
Jiji had explained that his uncle Speedwagon had explained to him that DIO apparently despised Jonathan Joestar so much he decided to destroy his entire life. Starting with forcefully kissing his crush and shortly after burning his dog alive.
And apparently Speedwagon had explained that he had done all of this at the age of 12 .
And that wasn't even mentioning just how… creepy DIO was.
How his eyes had this strange look to them. His gaze alone could make someone gain a feeling of uneasiness. Almost as if he was looking at you to find something he wanted
Jotaro took a breath as he decided that, for the sake of his sanity and the rest of the afternoon, he'd stop that train of thought right there.
“Any other ideas on who to invite?” Noriaki asked as he went over and placed one of the coffees on the table and slid it over to Jotaro and pulled up on the other side of the table.
Jotaro found himself snapped out of whatever train of thought that was but began to get into a smaller, but ultimately better one.
Didn't take long to think of who else, but he could tell they were running out of options of people they liked but also they knew wouldn't burn down the venue.
“Tonio.” He had said. Noriaki gave him a delighted look.
“The guy who owns that Italian place in Morioh?”
“Yeah.” Jotaro began to take a sip, knowing that he found a good choice with the slightly bitter taste of the coffee seemingly agreeing with him.
“That guy's food is really good!” he let out a slight laugh, “I wish I could've tried it sooner!”
“Well maybe you can, after all we need a caterer” a smile began to appear on Noriaki's face.
After that however, it became pretty clear they had very few ideas on who else to invite.
And so after a few moments of awkward silence…
“How about we let the guests invite some other people?” Noriaki suggested.
It sounded a bit chaotic, something that could go very wrong pretty quickly. But also at the same time, he doubted that the guests would intentionally invite people who they knew would outright destroy or try to ruin the wedding.
So..
“Sure,” Jotaro replied. Beginning to take another sip of his coffee “why not?”
The rest of the afternoon was thus filled with a few more decisions of specifics, where the wedding would take place (California), when exactly it would take place (in around 4 to 6 months. A bit fast but they didn't want to wait too long for marriage.) and a few minor discussions on who would be invited and so forth.
Eventually it was the late afternoon when, after many talks and planning. Jotaro and Kakyoin decide to begin planning the event.
Of course. A quick call to the Speedwagon Foundation was in order.
The phone let out a small ring, “Hello, you are calling the Speedwagon Foundation. What do you need?” the agent of the other end began. A fairly relaxed tone was present in their voice.
“Hello, this is Jotaro Kujo,”
“Ah! Doctor Kujo, how are you this evening?”
Jotaro blinked as he began to think about how he was going to put what he was about to say next.
“Good, it's just I need some help planning something” Jotaro began to slightly tap his finger on the table. “It's a formal event.”
The person on the other end let out a small ‘he's before continuing.
“I see, Doctor Kujo. When exactly will this event take place?”
“either 4 or 6 months from now in California, maybe more depending on outside factors.”
He heard the person on the other end beginning to type something down. “Alright, anything else?”
Jotaro grabbed a pen and paper. “I'll send you a list of people we want invited to this event.”
“Alright” a few seconds of silence passed before they spoke up again. “Dr. Kujo, if im to ask, what exactly is the event that will be planned”
Jotaro didn't even look up from his writing down the guest list as he casually went “me and Noriaki’s wedding.”
The other side of the phone was quiet for nearly a minute.
Jotaro was about to ask what was up when the other side asked “..did I hear that right?”
“Yes, yes you did.” Jotaro replied. Confused and a small part of him slightly annoyed. He had already explained what was happening. But he supposed they might just be a bit taken aback by the news.
A few more seconds of silence passed.
“Oh! Congrats. Tell Noriaki I'm happy for you two and don’t worry Doctor Kujo, we at the Speedwagon Foundation wish you a lovely wedding and marriage.”
He felt a small smile begin to appear on his face after hearing that.
He gave a quick thanks before the call ended, he drove his attention back to the piece of paper he was writing on as he continued to write down the guests list.
-
Avery heard Jotaro hang up from the other side of the line. They let out a deep breath.
A very deep breath.
All while trying to ignore the very much increasing urge to freak out.
Because 1. Doctor Jotaro Kujo was getting married. 2. The wedding was in roughly 4 or 6 months, possibly more. (which while a bit of a short notice was definitely doable with the Speedwagon Foundations funding ) and 3. They needed to help invite people.
While sure, one would expect the normal and most obvious thing to do was to invite friends and family and inform them of it. Which was definitely going to happen.
But there was one, single. Itty bitty problem.
Jotaro Kujo was a member of the Joestar family.
And the Joestar family were many things, but normal was definitely not one of them.
For one, one of the sons of Johnathan Joestar was 25 years old despite the fact Johnathan had been declared dead in 1889, and who had become the leader of the italian mafia at the age of 15 a mere week after joining the organization, along with the fact Passione apparently had, if word of mouth was to be believed a “French-talking tortoise” among their ranks. Jotaro himself had an uncle who was born when he was 13 and an aunt born when he was either 27 or 28. And also until just a few months ago the family had been terrorized by an immortal English vampire who had stolen Johnathan’s body before finally dying in Cairo, Egypt in 1989 and his personal cult who wanted revenge for his death.
And that wasn't touching the stand stuff. Or… anything with all the other bizarre happenings related to the family including the fact that Joseph Joestar fought, from his own account and from the words of others who had either seen or heard of it, “Vampire Aztec stripper gods”
And all of that was on top of the simple fact that, no matter how many have tried.
A Joestar wedding typically never went well.
Johnathan’s was rather normal until during the during honeymoon in which it was invaded by zombies and the aforementioned immortal vampire, Joseph almost set one of the curtains on fire with clacker balls at his, Holly’s husband Sadao got so drunk he nearly fell off a balcony and at the end of Jotaro's wedding Joseph had to get kicked out of the venue it had gotten so bad. But on second thought that entire thing had been a mess start to finish.
So yeah, to say preparing for this wedding was going to be a daunting task would be an understatement.
In the middle of their panic, Avery just barely noticed a tap on their shoulder. They turned their eyes and met their coworker, Kyle. Clear concern visible on his face.
“Hey, Avery?” He said, a worried tone clear “you ok? You were staring off into space a bit and I was afraid you were having a panic attack..”
Avery looked at Kyle and replied to him in a quiet tone, “Dr. Kujo is about to have a Code White.”
They watched as Kyle's eyes went wide as they stared at them in utter horror, “C-Code White?” He muttered out, taking a deep breath “are you sure?”
Avery nodded “Code White.” as they watched Kyle pull out his walkie-talkie with terror in his eyes as he pressed the button and, after glancing at them and back at the speaker. Just barley audibly mumbled into the speaker.
“...Code White…”
What happened in the next roughly 30 minutes was utter chaos as the entire wing became aware of the situation, and they all had begun to wonder, ask and feared what would happen at the event. The higher ups present did their best to assure them that the Speedwagon Foundation would not allow any harm to happen during it. Though many had doubts considering what had happened at past ‘Code White’ events.
Avery couldn't help but begin to fidget with the buttons of their shirt, their eyes bouncing around the room in fear as Kyle tapped his foot nervously as it was agreed on what would happen. Including the decision to invite the entire Joestar family. Including the ones located in Italy.
The rest of the evening was spent discussing what was going to happen. How this was going to happen. And how to (try) and prevent any harm, physical or mental, that could very well happen either during or at the event…
Off to the sidelines, standing apart from the others, who were at this point fully invested in the conversation. even as it got slightly heated at times. Was a simple, rather unassuming looking agent.
Now this agent in particular took the ‘entire Joestar family invited’ thing to heart. As they felt the sparks of their (in their opinion wondrous) stand begin to flare up as they thought about what they were going to have in store…
After all, was there really just one Joestar family out there?
The simple answer to everyone in the room was no….
To everyone but this agent.
A small grin came across their lips as the idea cemented. Power began to burn at their fingertips. A glorious laugh beginning to permeate in their mind.
They reached up and tucked their hat over their eyes. In order to hide their expression.
This truly was going to be a wedding for
all
to remember.
