Summary
Beautiful. Kind. Ford feels as if he reached out and touched Bill, his fingertips would scrape against infinity. Ford finds his fingers grazing under Bill's eye, ghosting over him, reverent. This is everything, isn’t it? Underneath his fingers is everything worth knowing, everything of value, and he’s so lucky and so grateful to be cast in his gentle muse’s nuclear glow.
As his mind unravels, a small part of him thinks that this is not unlike radiation unraveling DNA, that this is not unlike the power of the atom unraveling him on an atomic level—and then that too is pulled from him.
Bill had told Ford that he had been working hard lately. He'd told Ford that he'd deserved a reward, that the amount of stress he was carrying was unhealthy. Bill had offered to temporarily sever some neural connections here and there—nothing that Ford would really miss—and help Ford relax. To Bill's near equal shock and delight, Ford decided to take him up on the offer.
