<Xisuma> Good morning everyone, temperatures should get quite a bit lower today, so keep an eye out for that
<TangoTek> Is it gonna be really cold or just a bit more than it has been so far?
<Xisuma> Should be fine, just wear something warmer
<TangoTek> Ok, thanks X
<EthosLab> Warmer? I barely know her
Tango took this as his cue to look away, with his question having been answered and Etho having derailed the conversation. He muted his comm against the onslaught of messages, and set it down on a chest.
He looked at the sky. It was cloudier than usual, he had to admit. He picked up his comm again, setting an alarm to remind him to take a break and get a jacket in half an hour, knowing he’d forget otherwise, and that the outcome, considering he needed warmer temperatures as a blazeborn, would not be pretty.
After clipping his comm to his Post Office satchel, Tango took off, using his elytra to fly to a secluded plains biome to test some redstone. When he landed, he set down his redstone shulker, glanced at his notebook for reference before placing it back in his satchel, and put on the goggles False had lent him, grinning as he already felt himself focusing on the task at hand, grabbing some components out of his shulker box and placing them down, checking if he could make the circuit any more compact, as per Impulse’s suggestion.
About 15 minutes into his tinkering session, Tango shivered slightly, pulling his vest tighter around himself, though he dismissed the feeling of cold almost instantly, refocusing on his redstone, remembering the break he’d scheduled for later anyway.
However, the planned break time came and went without Tango realising, thanks to his still-muted comm. By this point, Tango had lost all track of time as he sat on the ground experimenting with different tick delays and shivering slightly.
Slightly later, Tango was startled out of his redstone-focused mindset by someone landing nearby. The change in focus made him realise that oh yeah he was actually really cold and he instinctively curled into himself, wrapping his tail around his legs. Whoever had landed jogged over to him and Tango, abandoning his redstone components, reached his arms out automatically, barely glancing at the Hermit’s face as they crouched by him, gathering him into their arms and rubbing his back vigorously, whispering softly in concern as they held Tango close.
Tango brought his shaking arms up to reciprocate the hug, noting that the person was Xisuma as his hands brushed against custom armour, beautifully warm against his freezing skin.
As he warmed up slightly he began focusing more on what X was saying, making out vague reassurances through the sound of his teeth chattering together. Before he knew it he was being gathered into his admin’s arms and lifted off the ground with his head against X’s shoulder, nestling further towards him for warmth.
“Thank Void your comm GPS was on, you worried me when you didn’t answer my messages about the temperature drop,” Xisuma explained.
“Comm was muted, I forgot to unmute it so I lost track of time and didn’t hear the messages.”
X sighed.
“Do you think you’ll be fine to teleport? It’ll be uncomfortable but we can get you warm sooner,” he asked quietly, receiving a hesitant nod from Tango as a response.
Xisuma mentally recited the command, waiting for Tango’s go ahead before they were teleported to X’s base. Tango breathed a sigh of relief at the warmth, though he clenched his eyes shut, breathing deliberately through a rush of nausea from the teleport.
Once he felt less disoriented, Tango opened his eyes, looking up at X’s face, seeing his eyes crinkle behind his helmet. The admin, upon seeing that Tango was less disoriented, gently lowered him onto his sofa, wrapping him up in two blankets, making sure he was comfortable before leaving to boil some water and get an additional blanket as well as a hot water bottle.
By the time X returned, Tango was curled up further on the sofa, his tail having wrapped itself around his leg again. X noted the colour returning to Tango’s face with gratitude, gently wrapping the third blanket around the blazeborn, who murmured a thanks before closing his eyes. Xisuma smiled, running his hand through Tango’s hair as he let the other Hermits know he was taken care of and that the two of them would be taking the rest of the day off.
X got up, quickly pouring the now-boiling water into the hot water bottle. Tango was snoring softly by this point, so he made an effort to keep his motions quiet as he closed the bottle and went over to Tango. Xisuma lifted the blankets off Tango, shushing his half-conscious protests and placing the bottle under his arm, lowering the blankets again as he shifted into a more comfortable position. X placed a bed down next to the sofa, took off his armour and drew the blinds before lying down parallel to Tango, who seemed to notice his presence and shuffled towards him. X met him halfway, though he was startled by Tango reaching out to drape an arm over his body.
“I thought you were asleep, buddy.”
Tango gave a half-coherent response, his body seeming to finally give in to the exhaustion of trying to maintain blazeborn temperatures. The last thing he remembered before falling asleep was X gently placing a kiss to the top of his head and holding him close.
