Work Text:
Things that late morning escalated into serious matters when, during the girls' bath, some strange creature attacked them. Marina managed to defeat it alone using some of her occultist tricks because Karin’s pistol bullets couldn't pierce through the thing. Abella helped Olivia escape from there and they both came back to the train first, visibly trembling, panting and stressed.
The boxer tried to calm them a bit while the other man improvised a bed on the seats using some of Henryk’s clothes he found inside one of his luggages. He was missing anyway, providing some safe environment for the girls was way more important at the moment. When Daan finished his work, he looked briefly through the window glass and his eye almost popped off of the skull. He immediately left the train, alarming Marcoh but the boxer couldn't even process what was happening.
Sprinting the fastest he can, Daan reached Karin, Marina and… Levi? What was he doing so early around these surroundings…? Later, Von Dutch will save all his questions for later. The journalist was bleeding heavily, a nasty cut in one of her legs and Marina lost her right arm. The boy did his best to assist them safely through their way back to the train.
“Please, tell me exactly what happened to you.” Daan came closer and picked up the younger girl to save her energy.
“After the bath and that damn monster, we were heading back here, but in the middle of our walk another creature suddenly attacked us.” the blonde’s spoke, her breathy voice stating her obvious tiredness. “He or it, I don't care, ambushed us and he had a sickle. D-damn, it's hurting like hell!”
“Alright, enough talking. We're going back to safety now. Levi, please, go ahead and tell Marcoh to search through my stuff and separate some cloth fragments, thread and needle and my scalpel for me. Need them ready for use.”
The boy followed the given orders and ran to the train. As soon as he took some distance, Sauer continued to tell what happened.
“That monstrosity tried to tear my blouse and Marina tried to get him off of me and, well, it was the moment when she lost her arm. Then I gained this cut on my left leg but it could be worse if that boy Levi didn't appear.” her pace slowed down and the doctor suggested they stop for brief minutes to rest. “He killed that thing with a headshot.”
Levi sure is a brave one. So young and alone in this cruel world, Daan could imagine what horrors he saw, how much he paid to Life with his mind for trying his best to survive. The doctor wondered if things would be different if he lived a normal life or if Levi would end up the same, just a little bit older.
When Karin told them she could continue walking, the trio finally headed back to the train. They were welcomed by Marcoh, who immediately helped Daan with Marina, carrying her to one of the seats and coming back to aid him with the journalist. First, Von Dutch asked the other man to clean Karin’s cut and try to control the bleeding. The occultist girl’s in a worse state, she needed Daniël’s full attention. He did his best using what he could and when Marina seemed a bit better, he went to the other woman to see the condition of her injury.
“You did a pretty good job here, Marcoh.” the doctor put a hand on the other’s shoulder, squeezing the region a little. His fingers trailed Marcoh’s arm slowly, stopping when he reached his hand. “Leave the rest to me, okay? Rest for now.”
“Sure. Remember to rest too.”
Daan surely needed it after treating two people in a hurry and sprinting like his life was at risk. Consequences of being a heavy smoker nor he cared that much to just quit smoking. Now he was outside again, another lit cigarette between his fingers, more nicotine filling his lungs. The doctor inhaled the smoke, feeling a bit light-headed after that particular drag. He glanced to one of his sides and his eye catched Marcoh throwing some punches in the air. A little “entertainment” for the evening, a really good one.
Marcoh’s eyes were almost shut, his gaze focusing on the absolute nothing, totally concentrated on the imaginary enemy. His footwork is formidable and it made Daniël wonder how he learned that while living in the Vatican City. Sweat dropped from the boxer’s chin and it captured Daan’s attention. Instinctively, his eye landed on Marcoh’s lips. He wondered if his lips tastes good .
One day he’ll know.
