It was another of those days.
That's what 'Hikaru' thought as he stared at the door to Yoshiki's room.
It was morning, and 'Hikaru' had his school clothes on and his backpack over his shoulder, he had gotten up at the same time as every weekday of school (doesn't matter how much he whined over it), went to the bathroom, said good morning to his 'mom', ate breakfast she made for him, got ready for school and went to pick Yoshiki up from his home so they could go to school together like every day.
But when he got there and knocked on the door, it wasn't Yoshiki the one that opened the door and greeted him, it was his sister who was (surprisingly) about to go to school too.
Kaoru greeted him, although she seemed in a bad mood (probably because of having to go to school), and told him that Yoshiki wasn't feeling well so he wasn't going to go to school.
She left after that, but 'Hikaru' stayed still infront of the door and after a few seconds he made his decision. He opened the door and walked inside, calmly walking towards Yoshiki's room and when he got there he stayed still infront of the door, again.
So now he's here, staring at the door and staying completely silent in case he hears something from inside.
But what did he mean by 'it was another of those days'?
Well, every once a while Yoshiki would fake feeling sick so he could stay home for a few days, and when he finally came back to school for the whole first day he couldn't look at 'Hikaru' in the eye.
But Yoshiki never told him about faking that sickness, so how did he know?
He knew because Hikaru was the one that teached him that trick when they were much younger, and because when he came back to school, besides being uncapable of looking at him in the eye, he would constantly get lost in his thoughts (even more than normal), and he had this sad, pitiful look on his face (even worse than normal). No one but him seemed to notice it! Or he was the only one who cared enough..
(it wasn't like that, but unlike their other friends, 'Hikaru' was nosy and wanted to be a part of every aspect in Yoshiki's life, while their other friends knew how to be patient and let their friend come to them for help on his own).
'Hikaru' didn't get it. What was he so sad about that he had to do this so often? He could just come to him and he would make him feel better, just like how he did to him when he had one of his breakdowns.
'Hikaru' decided it then, he would make Yoshiki feel better! Doesn't matter if he had to stay stuck with him inside his room for days (that sounds amazing actually).
So, he walked forward and knocked on the door.
"Kaoru, go to school already." Yoshiki's grumbling voice came from inside, but it sounded.. raspy, as if talking was a chore for him right now.
'Hikaru' snickered. "I ain't Kaoru, Yoshiki! Let me in!"
It was silent for a while, and an impatient 'Hikaru' was about to knock on the door again when Yoshiki finally answered. "Go away."
'Hikaru' froze, Yoshiki sounded even worse than before, voice choked as if he was at the verge of tears. He got nervous, brows furrowing at the rude request that made his heart skip a beat, and not in the good way. But he won't let that distract him from his goal! Yoshiki was just feeling unwell, he wasn't thinking about what he said and didn't mean to make his heart hurt!.. Atleast he hoped, he didn't want to cry, have a breakdown and put everyone at risk again. "Uh? What'd'ya mean Yoshiki? That's rude." 'Hikaru' grumbled, opening the door and walking in anyways.
(It always is like this, Yoshiki thought, under the covers of his bed as he heard the door open; he's so nosy it was just a matter of time until he finally caught on his escapades and demanded answers).
'Hikaru' walked towards the lump on Yoshiki's bed after closing the door behind himself, it obviously being the boy under the covers, hiding.
Why was he hiding? Was he afraid that 'Hikaru' was mad? He wasn't! He actually was here to make him feel better! He just would've liked that Yoshiki came to him for help on his own..
But it's whatever!
'Hikaru' let his backpack fall to the floor as he kneeled infront of Yoshiki's bed with his arms folded on it, looking intensely at the lump on the bed in silence
After a few minutes the lump moved, and from under the covers the upper half of Yoshiki's face was revealed, gray eyes looking into 'Hikaru's' own, red pupils contrasting against his own gray iris and looking horribly unnatural.
(Another reminder that this wasn't his Hikaru)
'Hikaru' beamed at Yoshiki, huge smile blinding and revealing his (adorable) missing tooth.
(Yoshiki felt like crying even more now)
"Why're ya hidin' Yoshiki?" 'Hikaru' tilted his head, making his cheek rest against the bed as he curiously waited for the boy's answer.
On his side, Yoshiki knew he wasn't referring to this moment in particular, the being infront of him was questioning him about the reason of all his escapades, but he couldn't tell him he did this every once in a while because he needed a rest.
Because he was starting to like this creature just like how he liked Hikaru.
Because he felt an horrible guilt after his heart skipped a beat because of something the creature infront of him did.
Because he felt he like he was betraying Hikaru everytime he saw how their friends treated the creature like it was still him and he couldn't do anything about it without putting them all in risk.
Because his mom still thought that her baby boy was safe and sound just like everyone else did and they couldn't mourn him like he deserved.
Because HE couldn't mourn his best friend forever (and love of his life) like he deserved.
But he couldn't tell 'Hikaru' that, the creature was highly unstable and he couldn't risk another breakdown and the lives of everyone (including himself) just because of personal feelings.
So, he ripped the covers off of himself under the same creature's attentive and expectant gaze, crawled to his knees infront of its kneeled form and quickly leant forward, arms wrapping around its neck and hugging it as tight as he could, trying to distract himself of how cold the body it was in was.
Yoshiki felt how the blushing creature smiled against him and returned the hug even tighter, its arms around his waist and head resting against his shoulder.
He hoped that the creature didn't realize how he didn't answer its question.
