relief

Summary:

Sasaki just had a bomb dropped on him—and it might have solved all of his problems.

(or: tayama/yamada confesses and sasaki's concern about being in love with them both becomes extremely irrelevant)

Notes:

(See the end of the work for notes.)

Work Text:

Sasaki drops his cigarette.

The dark, damp back alley of the grocery store tunnels around him, his ears ring, and even as Tayama seems to get further and further away from him, she speaks.

“Sorry for deceiving ya this long, Sasaki. Didn’t think it would get so far, but—” Her breath catches, and something about that snaps him back into his body. If this isn’t a dream, he has one shot to do it right.

“So…Yamada is in love with me,”

She nods.

“And Yamada is you,”

She nods again, gaze shifted to the ground, digging the toe of her boot into the dirt like she always does when she’s anxious.

He doesn’t want to ruin them, but he doesn’t see another solution. He hopes he’s right.

Sasaki leans forward, pressing careful fingertips against her jaw in hopes she’ll look at him.

Maybe it’s better if she doesn’t.

“Can I—” No, that’s not her style, “—if I’m wrong, please don’t call the authorities.”

Tayama snorts under her breath, lip curling to one side, and for the first time (ever), Sasaki surges with confidence.

He squeezes his eyes shut and pulls her chin towards him, letting go the moment their lips touch.

She’s so warm, sweeter than expected, and as he wraps a cold hand around her neck, she sighs. The relief sets his blood on fire; it only gets worse once her hands start to roam. Her lips, too, but Sasaki can barely keep up with one. He may be running out of air…

Tayama pulls away and he instinctively chases her down, pathetic, but instead of hearing noises of disgust, she giggles.

“Doncha worry, ain’t goin’ anywhere, Sasaki-san.”

She crawls into his lap and Sasaki’s mind goes completely blank. Tayama may kill him.

And he’ll say thank you.
