Not *quite* a return to form, as this is a tumblr prompt fill from September, but I do intend to return to Shatterproof soon. <3 hope you all are doing well.

Work Text:

Twilight’s always up plenty early, so he’s stirring a pot of sizzling potatoes and sausage for breakfast when he hears their next member wake up—predictably, Legend. Warriors, Time, and Wild are already up, and Legend’s usually the next in line. This morning, however, Legend shifts, hisses, curses, then collapses back into bed instead of stretching.

He tends to drag himself over to the fire for tea before getting ready for the day, but today he just lays there for a second before slowly pulling over his bag to rustle around for some rings.

Twilight leaves the breakfast, it can handle a few minutes of sitting, and inches over. He speaks quietly enough that hopefully those boys still working on waking up aren’t disturbed. “Hey, Ledge. You good?”

“Ugh” is the worrisome response.

“…relapse?” Twilight guesses, watching Legend pick out a green stone ring from his box, squint at it, then drop it back in with a clink.

Legend shakes his head. “Nothing so bad. Just some pain. What else is new.” He sighs heavily and dramatically. “Gonna be slowing everyone down today. Again.”

Twilight grimaces in sympathy. “I’m sure you’ll be good to ride in the cart if you need it.”

“Yeah, I know. Just… Ugh.” Legend finds the ring he’s looking for, a purple one, and slides it on. He sits up and scrubs a hand through his bedhead.

Warriors reenters the camp then, boots crunching on the dirt and dried grass. His face is smooth and slightly wet, his bright eyes a stark contrast to Legend’s tired ones. He catches Twilight’s gaze and signs with a bit of a wince. “We might have to stay here for the day. There’s a storm on the horizon that looks like it will miss us, but it’s where we meant to go. And I know that storms mess with some pain levels, so…” He glances at Legend, then shrugs as if to lightly apologize.

“That explains a bit, I guess.” Legend flops back down and wiggles into his no-doubt-warm bedroll again. “If we’re staying here, I’m going back to bed.”

Warriors huffs a laugh, then sits down to put his shaving kit away.

Twilight debates. It only takes him a second to decide, though. He takes a short trip across the campsite to pick up his rolled-up bedding, then drops the roll on the grass by Legend and lays down, using the roll as a pillow.

Legend gives him a look, just his eyes visible over his blanket.

“I could use a nap,” Twilight says.

“Mm.” Legend doesn’t argue with that.

The rest of camp wakes up slowly, then settles back down again to wait out the storm. Twilight appreciates the chance to get some more rest in, and before too long, he finds himself pressed up against Legend’s blankets, the pseudo-contact giving them both some comfort and safety.
