Argh, just where was he?! Venti's right leg shook with impatience as he waited for his lover and husband to arrive at their picnic location. Goodness, he was already 42 seconds late! Sure, Venti knew it was not a big deal but for this occasion, he could barely stand still. Falling to his back, limbs spread with a loud groan, the bard wiggled his restless body parts up and down, left and right. This sight was swiftly caught by the alchemist who had just made it up Starsnatch Cliff. A smile to his calm features, eyeing his baby of a husband before coughing to grasp his attention.
“AH!!”
Venti sat up, dread leaving his features to be replaced by brightness akin to the sun. With a toothy grin, he patted the area by his side for the other to sit.
“Getting impatient, are we?”
Albedo hummed while taking a seat right before pecking the bard's nearest cheek with a kiss. This gesture was responded with a loud and desperate sigh;
“But you are a whole minute late! And for our anniversary nonetheless..”
That's right, today was their 148th wedding anniversary. So many years had they been together without a breeze wishing to break them apart. Each year the pair would meet upon this cliff for a picnic to partake in their everlasting loving memories. Venti, being the one to organise these outings each time.
“My goodness. Will you ever be able to forgive me? After all, this must be quite an irredeemable crime..”
Albedo teased his lover, his gaze never faltering away from him as he took one of his hands in his own. Venti hummed with closed eyes. Opening one in a teasing manner, he showed his tongue out as well.
“One must offer thyn Bard one million kisses to have a chance to be redeemed..!”
Oh my, quite the task! Albedo gasped with faked surprise, playing alongside him. However, Venti was swift to blush once he found himself caught in Albedo’s loving hold. Arms around his body, suddenly under attack by his lover's lips!! One, two, three, twenty, thirty four— Kiss after kiss which made them both laugh. Venti tried pushing the blonde away, making the other lean forward. Soon, the two found themselves laying on the ground with Albedo over his lover, still delivering kiss after kiss.
“Ah! I surrender! This helpless bard has lost this battle!”
After just a few more pecks, Albedo released the poor bard from his relentless onslaught. Helping themselves sit back up, Venti rested his head onto Albedo's right shoulder comfortably.
The light summer breeze passing through their hair, the barely cloud covered sky beaming with its blue hue. Calm and serene, the couple enjoying each other's company quietly. All these years and not one second had either thought of leaving each other. Even with the small disagreement, time spent apart and with many great friends lost to time and age they were immune to, their bond remained. So different from one another and yet inseparable. The cecilias surrounding them with the uncut weaving grass, the rare bird chirps that barely broke the perpetual silence. Simply being together was enough for them.
A few hours had now passed, Albedo breaking the silence by taking out a tall, important looking envelope. Handing it to Venti, the bard tilted his head, taking hold of it. Could this perhaps be an anniversary present? This was unlike Albedo. Usually Venti would be the one trying to shower him with presents but.. this looked quite important to the alchemist. Upon opening the envelope and taking out a thick stack of paperwork, Venti's eyes stared at one specific word; Divorce.
Huh? Had Albedo picked up the wrong envelope?
“You may be confused as to why you have these papers in your hands..”
Spoke Albedo who leaned away to get a better look at his.. lover? So.. he did mean to bring these papers? Why? How?! Venti looked more than confused, about to drown Albedo with questions before his mouth was shut by a single finger from his lover's gloved hand.
“Shh.. Let me explain.”
He smiled calmly.
“You see.. we got married one-hundred and forty-eight years ago. To humans this is much more than a lifetime ago but for us.. this barely means anything but a time to celebrate our commitment. Our friends from this now long passed age have been mostly forgotten about, not by us but by time, as anything. Our current friends know about our dedication, our love and company but.. I wish to show them the true meaning of how I feel about you.”
Albedo grasped Venti's trembling hands, steadying them with a warm squish.
“Our rings are now artifacts. My wish.. is to renew our love. I wish to divorce.. to marry you all over again. I want our relationship to last hundreds of years once more, for our anniversaries to have much more meaning. I want our love to be eternal.. with renewal. Just as lives end.. new ones arise.”
This speech described Albedo's thoughts but.. he had yet to hear Venti's. Of course, he would want to hear them before proceeding.
“Wouldn't our relationship not have the same meaning if we.. leave the past to forge a future? Everyone knows we are fated to last longer and they have never questioned our statuses. Is this about them or..?”
Venti did bring up a good point. Would renewing their vows be even worth it? After all, they both still upheld them and had no wish to renew them. Why would a second wedding be necessary ?
“You are an Archon. I.. am but a synthetic human. Your memories work differently than mine. I fear that.. I am starting to forget the specifics of how our ceremony went.”
The blonde sighed sadly, head leaning down.
“You mean more to me than everything and I crave to make these memories last. To have a new refreshing ceremony, to share our passion with the world and to be whole.. is what I desire. I understand it would mean the meaning of our legal status would be somewhat different but.. I also wish to relive the happiest moment of my life once more.”
Ah, now everything was clear to Venti. Albedo wanted to relive, remember and take in all that they had become over these years. Even if whole now, they could restore the longevity of their combined love and wishes. Venti finally smiled, leaning forward to press their lips together. After leaning back, his still brightly colored cheeks made his grin glimmer.
“Will you be the one proposing this time~?”
He asked, which made his lover chuckle.
“I will make sure to take you by surprise as well.”
With their lips once again meeting for a longer embrace, the two curled together to continue enjoying themselves to their fullest.
“Then I will gladly divorce you, my lovely alchemist. And.. I look forward to seeing you on one knee as I have done for you all these years ago.”
“It's a promise, my love.”
Happily sighed Albedo.
