“Wait…. Seriously? You’ve never made a blanket fort?” Blitzø asked incredulously. Loona glanced up from her phone to see his jaw dropped looking between Stolas and Via, who was hunched into the side of the couch.
“No?” The young owl hedged with a small voice. Loona understood, Blitzø could be a lot. She could see his tail whipping back and forth already. The hell hound mentally groaned as she realized this was going to become a THING.
“Stolas! You never made her a blanket fort?” He turned his attention to his fiance. Loona got up, tapping Via’s shoulder, and motioned for her to follow.
“Well, I never made one myself either? It would not be appropriate for a prince, especially just for me, I suppose.” Stolas trailed off sadly, probably thinking about his lonely childhood.
“Aww birdie,” Blitzø cooed. Good they could cuddle or whatever while she and Via- “Looney, Via where are you two going?” Dammit, they were so close.
“Out,” she said simply, tugging at Via’s wrist.
“But it’s family bonding time!” Via stopped suddenly, looking torn between her and Blitzø.
“I’m bonding with Via,” she said and man did that make Stolas look ridiculously happy. It didn’t take much for him, did it. Guess that’s why Blitzø was able to bag him.
The imp bound over, guiding them back into the living room. “Nope family bonding time, not sister bonding time.” Loona didn’t bother arguing that since they weren’t married they weren’t actually family. The last time those semantics were brought up it caused two anxious birds and one sad imp. She could NOT deal with that again.
“OKAY! Here's the plan! Were going to make a blanket fort!” Blitzø declared, predictably. Stolas clapped excitedly with a series of happy hoots, also predictably.
“Blitzø come on,” Loona definitely did not whine, “that's for little kids. We’re all adults here, or nearly.” She grinned down at the younger girl, she did rather like the kid.
“But they’ve never been in one!”
“Yeah so? It’s not a big deal,” she said crossing her arms.
Blitzø stared up at her, too long for her comfort. “Loony… have YOU ever had a blanket fort?”
“I dunno, maybe when I was little? It doesn’t matter,” she said sullenly.
“That’s… nope were definitely doing it now! Even Fizz and I did blanket forts!”
“Didn’t you grow up in the circus?” Via asked. Blitzø's tail shot up and he was practically vibrating at her engaging with him.
“Yeah I did, why?” He asked eyes wide.
“So... isn’t that just one big blanket fort?” Loona snickered. This was why she liked the moody girl. She looked over at Stolas on the other side of the couch. He was watching them with a soft expression as Blitzø sputtered about how it was different.
“Alright, alright, this is what were going to do,” Blitzø said physically reigning himself in. “Loony you go make snacks and drinks, family friendly, no alcohol.” She clicked her teeth in protest but was ignored. “Via you go grab as many sheets, blankets, and pillows as you can find. Sexy birdie-” She and Via protested loudly because gross, “You're with me, we gotta move everything!” Blitzø finished throwing his hands wide grinning.
Loona shot a look to Via just nodding slightly and they moved toward the hallway, breaking off in different directions for their appointed tasks. Loona looked back at the two men, watching as Blitzø's tail wrapped around the prince’s waist, the imp pointing around and motioning at different furniture, the tall demon nodding excitedly.
The hell hound found her way into the kitchen taking stock of the fridge and pantry grabbing platters and organizing various snacks. She wasn't a cook but she could heat some stuff up, she thought, sniffing at various meat packages.
The young woman went back and forth between throwing sweet and savory snacks on plates and glancing in the other room to watch the others creating a large fort. How Blitzø was making it stay upright being large enough for the four of them, tall as most of them were, she didn’t know. Maybe Stolas was using magic. Whatever made him happy.
She looked up as Via stepped quietly into the kitchen. “Blitzø said to stop hiding in here and come help with the fort. His words not mine” she said quickly.
Loona snorted, her ear twitching as she heard the other two talking sweetly to each other, they'd probably start making out if they gave them enough time. She motioned to the younger girl to come over, directing her to grab the drinks in the fridge and the cold snacks. Loona went around plating the warmed snacks on specific platters.
“Do you think they're going to fast?” Via burst out quickly. “Like they just got engaged and they're getting married in like, a month! I know they had their thing in the past, but isn't it quick?” Loona glanced over as the owl hunched in on herself, like she’d said something wrong. She may not like to admit it, but they all had their own issues, even now.
“Not really, but… I also know Blitzø wanted to propose two years ago.” Pink eyes snapped up to look at her.
“But then why-”
“He wanted to make sure we were going to be okay with it.” Loona shrugged as if it was no big deal.
“You mean that I’d be okay,” the young girl said sadly, looking across the hall to the other room. Watching her dad be spun by the shorter man, laughing as they poked at each other, never able to keep to themselves.
“I had my own issues too. It wasn't just you.” Loona admitted. “But you were younger and went through more shit with them. That's why he insists on the family nights. He wants us to know that no matter what, they aren't going to push us away. They're grossly in love and have no sense of boundaries,” she paused tilting her head to the room where she could hear them kissing, “but they love you, us.” She explained including herself in the end.
“I just don’t know why. I wasn’t particularly nice to him... or dad. Why didn’t they just do what they wanted?” She implored the hell hound.
“First off stop beating yourself up. You were a fuckin’ kid and it was a SHIT situation all around. Second, well, Blitzø doesn’t do things by halves. If he cares about you, you're stuck with him. He’s cared about you since at least we found you on Earth. It wasn't just for your dad’s sake. Shit, they could break up tomorrow and I can promise you, he will still have your back no questions asked.” Loona thought about all the times the imp had forced his affection on her making sure she knew she was loved, even if she didn’t always make it easy on him. Satan, they were all so damaged.
“It’s not easy, but I’m here if you want to talk. Gotta practice since I’m getting a pretty cool little sister,” she teased, bumping her shoulder to the owls. Via pulled her hat down over her eyes, looking down pleased.
“You're pretty cool too,” she mumbled back.
Before Loona could respond Blitzø popped into the kitchen hands on his hips. “What are you two doing in here?”
“Oh are you done making out?” She sassed at him, grabbing two platters and motioning to Via to grab another.
“For now,” Blitzø said seriously while grinning, grabbing the remaining two dishes. Loona rolled her eyes, the two sassing each other with quiet additions from Via.
Stolas looked up at the group as he finished tossing down large couch cushions on the floor, pushing them under the hung blankets. Platters were placed on the floor in front of them as Blitzø showed them how to lay various cushions and pillows, rolling them in sheets to keep them contained.
As he was enthusiastically explaining parts to Via, pointing excitedly, Stolas moved to Loona's side. “I want to thank you, dear, for being so kind.” He said in his overly sincere manner.
“I mean it’s just snacks, I just grabbed what you had, I didn’t even really cook anything.” She felt herself deflect, arms crossing over her waist.
Stolas reached out slowly placing his hand on her elbow. “Perhaps, but you put thought into it. I want you to know your efforts don’t go unnoticed.” He motioned to the plates, specific platters for Blitzø with his cheeses and hot sauce, and more owl friendly snacks scattered across two others. “You are a very thoughtful young woman. I don’t say it enough, but we are very lucky to have you in our lives.”
He squeezed her arm, moving to his fiance and draping himself over him, the height difference comical. Loona shifted uncomfortably as his praise ran through her head.
She watched as they spread out more blankets and settled down chatting happily. Via waved her over a spot between her and Blitzø, and a warm feeling went though the hell hound. The spot felt like a silent reminder that she belonged. Something, even after all these years, she didn’t always feel.
Blitzø grabbed the remote as she settled down, pulling the chips toward herself. “Since I am clearly high ruler of the blanket fort, I get to choose what we watch.” He grinned, mashing buttons.
“Thanks for making this fort for us, dad.” Loona said, staring straight ahead. Blitzø gave her the watery eyed happy look he always did when she called him that, dropping the remote. She smirked, grabbing it up and handing it to Via. She turned to the giggling owlet, “No horses.”
Blitzø exclaimed protests to the amusement of the others, going on about how amazing horses were. Loona settled down, eyes closed a moment, Stolas commiserating with Blitzø, and she felt their tails drape over the girls, twinning around each other.
For once it didn’t feel suffocating; it was nice. It felt like a welcome embrace, a feeling of comfort. Like maybe, she really did belong. As she pulled out her phone, the movie starting, and the two men quieting she nudged her shoulder to Blitzø's. Maybe this family thing wasn't so bad.
