There’s something vile clawing its way up Caitlyn’s throat, a simmering hot brand that rakes down her esophagus, when her hands tug at Vi’s forearm. They’ve made it—this wretched plan of pipes, pillars and ventilation fans. The movement is sharp, pleading, and Vi’s eyes even more so when she turns to the woman.
There’s a storm there, Caitlyn can see it brewing, unspoken words hanging heavy on her lashes. And there goes that feeling again…Hot, heavy, and overbearing deep in Caitlyn’s gut. Waiting to spill from her lips. Instead, she swallows. She wets her lips. A pesky habit, her mother had said. She tastes Vi on her lips. She wets them once more. Smoky, salted, warm.
She hopes this won’t be the last time those flavors grace her tongue.
