Chapter Text
I look into the mirror and what looks back is not me
This is a creature
Malformed and imperfect
I look in the mirror and what looks back has my eyes
My father's eyes
Warm and kind
I look in the mirror and what looks back has my arms
My mother's arms
That held me as I grew
I look in the mirror and what looks back has my legs
My strong legs
That carry the weight of my lungs, my heart, my body
My body that I have been so unkind to
I look in the mirror and what looks back is my smile
Wide and toothy
It makes my eyes crinkle
I look in the mirror
And finally, I recognise what looks back.
Me
Imperfect and malformed
For all of its imperfections, this is me
My body
My smile
My legs
My arms
My eyes
My nose, hips, waist, cheeks, chin
And for the first time in my life
It doesn't have to be this unattainable standard of perfect
It just has to be me
And that is enough
That is deserving of love and acceptance
