Chapter 1: Was it the best you’ve ever had? Was it the worst you’ve ever known?

Chapter Text

It was a late night, probably around 2:00 am. Yesterday had been the biggest day for Smart Beavis in his life. The universe was saved, after all. But the main thing was that he ending up doing something no Beavis, nor Butthead, had ever done before.

He scored.

Ever since his teenage years, he and Smart Butthead would dream about the day where they would stop being “pathetic virgins”, but it never really came. So they stuck to intergalactic pornography and gave up.

But when mainstream Beavis was about to confess to the one lady that started this whole problem of the timeline almost being shattered, Serena Ryan, a former astronaut and current position, he saw an opportunity, and took it.

It could have been a happily ever after, right?

After an anticlimactic end, the woman left the room half-naked, they had exchanged contacts beforehand so he quickly messaged “Are you alright?” Before passing out in his now-sheetless bed, cold, indecent, and overstimulated.

Now, he was awake, but his bed was made somehow, and he had a blanket covering him, a clean blanket.

He was confused, but it was still nice to relax in.

Soon Smart Beavis sat up. He checked his communicator, to be found with nothing in his notifications.

He sighed and got up. He went to get decent via putting on some clothes, before going to check on Smart Butthead, who was half-asleep on the couch.

Smart Butthead rarely slept in his own room. He and Smart Beavis hadn’t shared words since he and Serena went to Smart Beavis’ room.

Smart Beavis walked out of the living room, and carefully went into the kitchen. He took a glass, and poured water from the sink in it, just to watch how it stopped swirling.

He poured it back out into the sink, not really feeling up to drinking it after all. He didn’t feel like doing anything in the moment.

He heard rustling in the living room, indicating Smart Butthead was waking up. He didn’t know whether to go back to bed or not, but he still began to walk back to his room.

As soon as Smart Beavis got inside his room again, he sat down and took a deep breath. He felt a little nervous to see Smart Butthead after what happened.

The worst part was he knew he watched.

He HAD to, there needed to be proof (as many Beavises had lied about scoring in the past). He remembered seeing him crawl out of his hiding place, behind a suitcase that was knocked off the foot of the bed.

He didn’t know what they could say to each other, and they’ve been dreaming of this day for years.

Was he jealous? Did he not care? Smart Beavis was letting random thoughts of paranoia swirl around in his head.

He sighed before lying back down in his bed, staring up to the dark ceiling, not bothering to pull the covers over his body.

After what felt like hours, Smart Beavis heard three knocks on his door. He sat up and watched as Smart Butthead walked in, he looked as if he had just woken up.

“Morning, Smart Beavis”

Smart Beavis remained silent, unaware that someone was speaking to him.

“Oh. Good morning Smart Butthead.”

There was an awkward silence that filled the room. They both hated it but they had nothing to say.

Smart Beavis was once again reflecting on the silence surrounding him, interpreting it as a sense of hatred.

After an eternity of silence, Smart Butthead spoke.

“I sent the proof to the citadel, but I’m sure quite sure they will respond for an hour.

Smart Beavis acknowledged the situation with a nod. He glanced at Smart Butthead before looking at his communicator, which stayed empty. He looked back at his counterpart, not being able to read his expression.

“Are you feeling frustrated?”

Smart Butthead turned his attention to him.

“Frustrated about what, Smart Beavis?”

Smart Beavis let out a resigned sigh.

“Nothing at all.”

Smart Butthead nods, though he was sure something was up. They felt no
Need to pry into one another, feeling like it was an invasion of privacy.

It stayed quiet. Smart Butthead had addressed that he needed to use the bathroom, and left the room. Smart Beavis was left alone with his own thoughts.

Smart Beavis was overthinking the whole conversation, to acknowledging each other's presence to being informed evidence was sent to the citadel.

He felt overwhelmed by the intensity of the situation. Additionally, he was unsettled by the fact that Smart Butthead was aware of what had happened.

As he thought to himself, he felt a vibration on the bed, it was Smart Butthead’s communicator. He decided to take a peek at it, just to see it was from the citadel.

“We have reviewed the footage you’ve gotten, and he actually did it, and you witnessed it all! We must celebrate at once! We shall have a ceremony for the both of you at noon!”

“Congratulations, we will see you both very soon!”

The Citadel of the Beavises and Buttheads.

He kept reading it over and over, before deciding to open his phone to see said footage.

Thankfully, he knew his passcode.

He soon found it, and skimmed through it, remembering most of what happened, he saw himself pass out, causing him to assume the video was over, just to see Serena run out, before hearing her vomit outside the room.

“Smart Beavis! I have retur-“

Smart Butthead paused as he saw Smart Beavis looking at the communicator, he had no expression, but his eyes were wide open.

It was silent again, as Smart Butthead was handed back his communicator, looking at the message from the citadel.

He read through it thoroughly, before looking back at Smart Beavis.

“I guess we have time to spare...” He tried to clear the awkwardness out of the room.

Smart Beavis nodded. They both went back into the living room in silence.

There was still an awkward silence that filled the air. This tension never seemed to go away.

As the early morning progressed, only a few words were shared between them both. Smart Beavis was slightly worried about going to the citadel, not knowing what to expect.

Smart Beavis was fidgety, messing with the turquoise cloth that wrapped around himself. Smart Butthead took notice of his behavior.

“Smart Beavis, what seems to be bothering you?”

“How would the ceremony work?..”

They both have been to many ceremonies before, but none of them were for this issue.

“I assume it will be like any other, Smart Beavis”

Smart Beavis remained silent, staring at the floor. He was stressed, he couldn't even fathom what was about to happen. He tried to remind himself that this was good, he did something good.

He wanted to be proud of himself.

But for some reason, he wasn’t, it just made him feel terrible inside.

And he couldn’t figure out why.

Smart Beavis laid his back against the couch. It was still around 3 in the morning now, but he wasn't tired.

He didn’t feel like anything at all.

Smart Butthead took a small glance at him, it seemed as if he wanted to get to the bottom of why his comrade was upset.

He observed every breath he took, every movement he made, and every blink. Smart Beavis felt his gaze, getting a little nervous.

Even as a child, Smart Butthead had always scared him in a way he could never explain, still did years later, his stare was especially scary, as even though everyone had the same eye color, his eyes felt blank.

But at the same time, his eyes felt somehow comforting. He knew Smart Butthead would never hurt him, he seemed more likely to defend him instead. It was like swimming in an ocean of pearls, the way they would always shine when he was excited or happy.

He didn’t notice himself smiling as he stared into Smart Butthead’s eyes.

Smart Butthead gazed at him, looking as he smiled so calmly after being super fidgety. They didn’t look away from one another, Smart Beavis still wasn’t aware that he was smiling.

Smart Butthead felt his face get hot, and he looked away. He didn’t understand why.

The awkward intensity was replaced with something they both couldn’t put their finger on. Smart Beavis realized how long he was staring at him, and quickly looked away.

His cheeks felt strained, soon realizing he had been smiling.

He covered his mouth and turned back to the tv in embarrassment.

Smart Butthead felt his stomach flip. He went to get a glass of water from the kitchen to help relieve the sensation. Perhaps it was a simple cold.

He poured the glass, and took small sips. He stared into the sink, thinking of how Smart Beavis was acting.

All the movements he made showed he was anxious, he observed how his hands were trembling. But he saw the way it all seemed to disappear when he looked at his face.

Smart Butthead finished the glass of water and placed it in the sink. He took a moment to gather himself before walking back into
The living room.

He observed the couch, finding Smart Beavis fast asleep. Concerned about his comfort, Smart Butthead went to get a warm
Blanket.

As he came back, Smart Beavis was in a fetal position, visibly cold. He wrapped the blanket around his counterpart and watched the TV for a while before he felt his eyes get heavy.

Soon enough, he had fallen asleep too.

Hours had passed. The sun lit up the room, and Smart Butthead felt warmth on his chest.

He rubbed his eyes before sensing the heavy weight that rested on his body and the sweet scent of berries.

Smart Beavis was laying on him. He felt an intense flutter in his stomach before he checked the time.

They were almost late for their ceremony. Smart Butthead quickly got up, but making sure he didn't hurt his counterpart.

“Smart Beavis, we are going to be late..”

Smart Beavis opened his eyes and checked the time. He felt intense pressure and panic.

“Goodness, we must get ready!” He rushed off the couch to the bathroom.

Smart Butthead went into their other bathroom, freshening up. Everytime he would move, he would get a hint of that same sweet berry smell he had smelt when he woke up with Smart Beavis laying on him.

He looked around and then realized it was from his robe. His scent rubbed onto him, but he didn't mind it much.

He found it soothing, and nostalgic.

They both hurried and got ready to leave the comfort of their home. Smart Butthead prepared a portal, quickly walking in.

They reached the outside of the citadel’s main building and walked towards the doors. As they did, they were greeted with being reminded that they were the first among the many Beavis and Buttheads to have scored. Well only Smart Beavis that is.

Smart Beavis felt that same emptiness as he did that early morning.

Smart Butthead grabbed the handle, inches away from entering the citadel. He checked the time, they arrived perfectly, not even a second off.

“Are you ready, Smart Beavis?”

Smart Beavis sighed, before putting on a fake smile.

“Of course! Who wouldn’t be?”
