Summary
The first sign was how silent Naruto became.
The way he walked was inaudible, he stopped screaming and seemed to listen more. Read more, ask more looking as if he was desperate to survive. Even his daily proclamation to be Hokage someday seemed to be swallowed down.
It didn't ring alarm bells to them even when he stopped asking Kakashi to teach him a new jutsu or Sakura for help with academics. It didn't help that Naruto always seemed distant and more tired sometimes or hostile when he stopped Sakura one day from hitting him and asked her to stop hitting him as it hurt. Then when he volunteers to do more D-rank missions with his shadow clones his team shrugs it off at first.
