" When the sun shines? "

Summary:

So, when he heard a knock, he groaned and picked up the violin, knowing they’re the only one in the house, therefore the one responsible of shooing the person away. His fellow Kites never knock at the front door, if they even use it. They’ve all gotten quite used to using the windows and such to get into the house, so Ellis crossed his fingers, hoping nobody annoying was in front of the door.

Work Text:

It was unusually breezy outside, yet one couldn’t complain. After all, you couldn’t expect any less when you’re on an island. Besides, it was a warm wind, not whipping your face violently or messing up your hair annoyingly. It was a calm wind, barely moving a few leaves on the trees, the rarely spotted flowers swaying a bit as well.
Although people would prefer going outside on these types of days, as the pleasant weather was quite rare on the isles. The other people in the house, and probably in the region, as well, went out on a walk, or just to interact with others and enjoy a day without clouds covering the sky. The house was empty, yet Ellis refused to go out.

Sitting on the floor with eyes closed, the open window allowing the breeze to enter occasionally and brush his hair from side to side, their fingers worked carefully as he played a soothing tone with the violin. Days like these were perfect for playing the violin in the comfort of your room, pillows and blankets being hit by the warm sunlight, melody filling the house and putting almost anybody at ease.

They usually kick people out when they visit in situations like this. Especially when they’re not from the Kites.

Crossing fingers doesn’t work.

Opening the door, and sadly having to look up at the familiar, slightly taller man, their face turning into a scowl soon after at the other’s smug face, sighing and putting the “kicking out” ideas to the side for now.
“What are you doing here, hmm? I expected somebody like you to be out in the sun, or at least hanging out with others.” Ellis hums, as the other chuckles. What in the world is he playing at?

“It’s quite nice outside, so it makes more sense if I ask what you’re doing inside.” Javier says with a grin, his eyes darting to the other’s hand, mouth forming an ‘o’ shape as he spots the violin.
“I’d rather stay inside and not get bothered, thank you very much.” They say with a sigh, putting the instrument away and crossing his arms, looking the other in the eyes.
“Nobody should be so isolated during such a pleasant day! I insist, at least go on a walk with me.”

Ellis eyes him cautiously, yet sighs and gives in. “Fine. I suppose it’s not that much of an issue.”
Javier’s face lights up as he immediately grabs the other by the arm and drags them along. Sure, it’s pleasant, and a bit of fresh air never hurt anybody, but Ellis’s facial expression turned confused once they took a turn, making it to the edge of the habited zone of the isles.
They stop and stare, the other man tilting his head slightly, a small smile on his face. Gosh, that teasing fucker.

“Where are we going?” Ellis says, carefully walking as they looked around, before yelping as he’s yanked forward, frowning at the brunet, who had a shit-eating grin on his face.
“Have some patience, how about that? You’ll see soon enough.” Javier teases, as the other groans and decides to keep following.
The buildings of the Faction Isles were far behind them, a collection of trees gathered together forming a thick forest, patches of sunlight barely hitting the ground every once in a while. The smell of pine trees and wet wood fills the air, giving Ellis’ brain a pleasant feeling of relaxation. They let themselves get dragged along, the other’s pace slowing down as they both admire the natural beauty around them. As he looks ahead, sunlight hitting the grass somehow more, they squint their eyes and look at the other, who just smiled and gave him a wink.

“Javier, where the fuck are we?”
“Again, you’ll see soon.”

Gosh, how they wanted to punch him sometimes.

Obviously, they wouldn’t, so he sighed instead, and kept walking forward, rubbing their eyes as they both pass the trees and strong sunlight hits them, gasping slightly as he looks around.

A clearing, full of tall grass and small flowers blooming all around, surrounded the two. It wasn’t big, yet it was beautiful. The sun wasn’t a bother, the breeze barely hit, and the morning dew was sparkling in the light, dripping down the leaves gracefully.
Ellis turned around at the other with a grin, as they chuckled and approached, hugging him. Javier hugged back yet grabbed his hand again.

“We haven’t even gotten to the best part.” He says, leading him along again.

They stare, confused, as they walk through the tall grass together, the slight humidity of it being refreshing, looking front and smiling brightly as he sees what the other set up. Oh, that bastard.
A small blanket was placed perfectly on the grass, big enough to fit two people on it. There was a small basket, covered with a knitted piece of cloth, and a bottle of what seemed to be lemonade.

Ellis huffs in surprise and looks up at the other, smiling and elbowing him playfully. “You did all of this?”

“Perhaps.” He answers with a snicker, offering a hand, which was taken soon after, and they both walked closer together, sitting down with a chuckle.

“All of this, you did by yourself?” they ask again, grinning as the other turns around and mutters incoherent nonsense.

“Well, I might’ve…maybe…only planned it theoretically. And maybe, perhaps, just maybe, some friends set it up?”

Ellis snickers and laughs softly, which earns him a small push from the other, who started defending himself.
“I just wanted it to be perfect, you know? And I couldn’t make it perfect myself!” he blurts out, to which the other stops chuckling, grabbing his hand gently and smiling.

“I don’t care how good or how bad it is, Javi. If it’s with you, I’m happy.” They say with a smile, looking him in the eyes.
“How cheesy.”
“Shut the fuck up.”

They both giggle softly, as Javier reaches over and takes out a piece of pie from the basket. “Now this, I made by myself.”

“If it’s shit, I’m laughing at you for it.”

“How dare you!”

Ellis chuckles and carefully rips a bit of pie from the piece, eating it and humming. “I didn’t know you could cook.”
“I can’t.”
Their eyes widen as the other laughs, before rolling his eyes playfully at the stupid joke and chuckling a bit himself.
They swallow and watch as Javier eats the other half, allowing a small smile to appear on his face.

He turns towards them and smiles.
“You feeling good?”
“I wasn’t feeling bad in the first place.”

Javier smiles and reaches over to the other, leaning in closer in a manner that’s all too familiar for the other. Ellis copies his movement and grins as their lips finally touch, a small, yet effective gesture of affection. The kiss is soft and gentle, and it only lasts a few seconds, yet it’s enough for the both of them. Javier lays down on his back, as the other does the same. They both exchange a look, before Ellis scoots a bit closer, causing the other to let out a silent giggle. He hesitantly wraps his arms around the other, looking up at him as if asking for permission. When they weren’t pushed away, they pulled themselves closer, hugging him tight. Javier smiles warmly and copies the other’s movements, embracing them carefully.

The sun hits Ellis’ eyes uncomfortably for a moment, as they hide their face away by burying it in the other’s shoulder. They both lay down on the blanket, embracing each other in a warm manner, the pleasant smell of flowers in full bloom around them and the no longer so annoying sunlight covering the clearing in a manner of comfort. The two closed their eyes and held each other, blocking out the world and everything against them in a rare moment of peace.
Ellis wasn’t embarrassed to stay that way, after all, why would they be? He felt his body relaxing and let the world do what it wanted to do, looking up and giving the other one last glance, before comfortably falling asleep, no thoughts in their mind other than one.

This was so much better than being alone.
