He believed nobody would mourn for him when he took on the mask. The moment that mask hit his face, Yuji Itadori died to the world, and Kirin had been born once again. After all, with no family, hardly any real friends—for the ones he bonded with only bonded over comics—and no lover, he knew in his heart that taking on the mask and 'dying' was the only way evil wouldn't pervade New York City.
However, he failed to think of the one person he truly loved in that moment when the world's fate rested in his hands.

Yuji Itadori was your prime example of a top-tier nerd. His big, thick glasses framing his face, an average height, an average build, never coming to school with a proper haircut, it all combined to create the prime look for a nerd as everyone practically knew of his love for comics. His favorites in particular were horror and thriller ones, especially with action sprinkled in the pages. He would sit in the university library for hours, getting either homework done or reading his favorite stories. The boy happened to be the top of his class and was on his way to living a great future despite the odds not being in his favor. His social life couldn't be any worse, but he didn't mind. There was one person he knew he could talk to no matter how terrible his social standing became—
—and that was (Y/N) (L/N), the most admired girl in her university. She sat just below Yuji grade-wise, and for her entire public school career, she was in silent competition with him to come out top. However, she could never manage to surpass him. This led to them talking one day, and it was history from there. The biggest nerd and the most popular girl in the school? It was a miracle they even spoke to each other. Once they graduated, they both attended the same university after receiving full ride scholarships. Although their hangouts became more sporadic, Yuji knew (Y/N)'s heart.
And he knew his own too—the one that had fallen first.
After witnessing several jocks attempting to court her, Yuji decided he couldn't be content with who he 'was' anymore. Coincidentally, he discovered an ad for a superhero who needed a sidekick, and hoping to get brownie points for going on missions and saving people, he set out to become stronger than he ever had before.
Yuji couldn't guess the events that would follow him after calling the number on that ad on that fateful day.
