Work Text:
There's a fever in his blood and it runs high, probably coloring his skin red.
Their hug is warm and Anya looks adorable, with her cheek smudged against his chest, a little bit of drool coming out of her mouth (the mouth he kissed, holy shit). She looks more peaceful than she has in weeks and he would rather perish than disturb her right now. Daisuke so would. In a heartbeat, if Anya asked. She probably wouldn't, given that she's a nurse, but if she did? Yeah.
Her breathing is calm, no longer imbued with that tired cadence it always has. Their legs are intertwined in the same way as their hands and he can feel the steady beat of her heart. Thump, thump, thump. Steady and real and close. He wants to hear it always and forever. He wants her.
Daisuke places a kiss on her forehead. Then another. And then another for good measure. He can't get enough of her, her smell, her taste, her everything. She's the coolest person he knows, and she's the girl of his dreams, and he thinks he'd readily kill for her if she asked. The thought should scare him, but he kind of doesn’t care.
'Are you not moving too fast?' His parents would ask. They would be right to, probably. Thing is, the romantic advice he was given in college - to be a gentleman, to pay for everything, to treat his lady of choice right - didn't really apply to most of his college hookups. Because, no mom, those aren't my real partners, and no dad, I won't invite them for dinner.
He didn't listen to them then, too eager to get drunk at parties, fuck around and pop percs when offered. So, he knows next to nothing about being, well, an actual boyfriend. And he never got past the talking stage with anyone who was interested in more than just screwing his brains out.
Will he have to ask Swansea for advice now? Damn. No offense to Curls and Jimbo, but those guys look like they haven't attracted attention since at least The Second Great Depression. Captain because he's too much of a workaholic and Jimmy... Honestly, doesn't seem interested in people, period. Not that Daisuke doesn't trust these guys with all the pilot stuff, but relationships? Ehhh.
And it's not like he's blind. Something is definitely going on between Anya, Jim and Cap. Daisuke's not sure what exactly, but it can't be any good. Whatever it is, he wishes that Anya won't get her credits docked for it. She's stressed as is already, no need for some petty drama to ruffle her feathers more... Or, what he hopes is petty drama, anyway. It could totally be something worse, like a big fight that will tear them all apart and force them to pick sides. Or even more worse, a quiet, unnoticed tension that will keep growing and evolving and intensifying, before eventually blowing up in all their faces.
But if anything comes her way, Daisuke will protect Anya. He'll pick her side over Curly, over Jim, heck, over Swansea, if he has to! In truth, no one had ever made him feel this way before... He's been like a putty in her hands, like dough or slime, being molded and shaped and reshaped and teased and praised andandand... Fuck, nope, mind out of the gutter.
Besides the aforementioned, he just feels like he belongs by Anya's side, simple as that. As both her companion and partner(!), everything they do together makes more sense to him than all the engineering books Swansea keeps throwing in his face. He could listen to her for hours on end, whether she's cursing him out for supposedly cheating at a dice game, or if she's talking about her experience trying to get into med school time and time and time again, never giving up. He also just really likes her voice, melodic and soft, yet raspy in the hottest way possible, ugh.
God, he wants to know her! All of her! He wants to finish listening to her playlist and then memorize all the lyrics. He wants to sing her favorite songs to her, or maybe with her, in unison! He wants to wish away all of her problems and make all the medical schools in the world accept her on the spot. He wants her to open up to him, at her own pace when she's ready. He wants to see her get better.
He worries about the eyebags under her eyes. He yearns to kiss away the blood from her lips until they heal. He dreams of nothing less but her.
He wants her. And he loves her. Forever.
And Daisuke thinks he might be crying now, oof. He just wants to be with Anya, man! Forever, or for however long she'll have him. It would make sense, he thinks. More than anything in his life ever will. Him becoming an engineer, him impressing his parents, him landing a good paying job... Nope, can't see it. Having a cool, sweet, pretty and utterly awesome girlfriend, though? Who he wants to hold and protect and cherish and kiss? God.
Unconsciously, unknowingly, unavoidably, he buries his nose in her silky black hair. His tears will probably stain her, dirty her somehow... But in her sleep, she buries her face deeper into his chest.
Her arms are around him, grounding him, not letting him fall apart. And if he were religious to any degree, he would pray to her every minute of the day. She, much like the moon, is beautiful and brilliant.
And she is loved.
