The Quiet Moments

Summary:

Just a cute little moment for our babies that they deserve. I also imagine VI as a needy masc behind closed doors.

Work Text:

The soft glow of the late afternoon sun streamed through the windows of Caitlyn’s office, casting a warm golden light over the room. It was one of those rare, peaceful moments in Piltover where the world seemed to slow down for just a moment, and all the chaos of their jobs, their lives, could take a breath.

Vi sat on the edge of Caitlyn’s desk, legs swinging lightly back and forth as she lazily flipped through a stack of papers. Caitlyn, ever the diligent officer, sat in her chair, bent over her latest report. But the quietness between them wasn’t uncomfortable; it was the kind of comfortable silence that only came from knowing someone so well that words didn’t always need to fill the space.

Caitlyn’s pen paused mid-sentence as she glanced up at Vi, a soft smile tugging at her lips. Vi, looking up and meeting Caitlyn’s gaze, grinned back, her heart skipping a beat at the sight of that smile. She couldn’t help it. There was something about Caitlyn — the way she was always so put together, so graceful, but also kind, and so unexpectedly warm beneath that polished exterior.

“What?” Caitlyn asked, her voice light but laced with amusement.

Vi raised an eyebrow, leaning forward just a little too much for someone who was supposedly sitting casually. “You’re staring at me again,” she teased, her lips curling into that mischievous grin that Caitlyn had come to recognize so well.

Caitlyn rolled her eyes but didn’t hide the soft flush that colored her cheeks. “I’m not staring,” she said with a slight laugh. “I’m just wondering how you can possibly *read* all that paperwork and not fall asleep.”

Vi scoffed dramatically. “You forget who you’re talking to, detective. I’m a master of multitasking.” She waved a hand in front of Caitlyn’s face. “I could totally do that job, you know. Just saying.”

“Uh-huh,” Caitlyn said, still smiling. “I’m sure you’d do a *great* job of handling all the delicate documents and sensitive information with your… expert ‘multitasking skills.’”

Vi leaned back again, her eyes sparkling with mischief. “But I’ve got more important things to do anyway. Like this.”

Before Caitlyn could ask what exactly Vi meant by “this,” the Vi hopped off the desk and stood in front of Caitlyn, holding her arms out in an exaggerated gesture.

“I need attention,” Vi said, her tone mockingly serious. “And I need it now.”

Caitlyn laughed, a sound that always made Vi’s heart skip a beat. “I think you’re the one who needs a break. You’ve been on your feet all day.”

“Exactly!” Vi said, leaning down and placing her hands on Caitlyn’s shoulders as if to guide her out of the chair. “That’s why you’re going to take a break with me. Come on, just for a little while. We deserve it.”

Caitlyn raised an eyebrow but allowed herself to be gently pulled out of her chair. She didn’t mind, honestly. There was no one she’d rather spend a quiet moment with than Vi. The way Vi made her feel — safe, at ease, and loved in a way she hadn’t known she needed — was something Caitlyn cherished more than anything.

Vi tugged Caitlyn toward the couch that was tucked away in the corner of the office, letting Caitlyn plop down first. Then Vi immediately settled beside her, curling up against Caitlyn’s side, her head resting on Caitlyn’s shoulder.

“See? Much better,” Vi sighed, closing her eyes for a moment, content and utterly comfortable.

Caitlyn smiled, her heart melting a little. She placed her arm around Vi’s shoulders, pulling her even closer. There was something about the way Vi made everything feel so easy, so natural. They didn’t need words in moments like this. They didn’t need anything but each other’s company.

Vi let out a soft hum, her thumb absentmindedly tracing small circles on Caitlyn’s arm. “I could get used to this,” she murmured, her voice quiet.

Caitlyn chuckled softly, running her fingers through Vi’s hair. “I think we both could.”

There was a moment of silence, filled with the comfortable weight of their proximity. Caitlyn leaned down, brushing a soft kiss to the top of Vi’s head, her lips lingering there for a second longer than necessary. It wasn’t a big, dramatic kiss, just a simple, sweet gesture of affection. But to Vi, it was everything.

When Vi looked up at Caitlyn, there was a softness in her eyes that made Caitlyn’s heart skip. “What?” Caitlyn asked, her voice tender.

Vi didn’t say anything at first, just lifted her hand to gently touch Caitlyn’s cheek. Then, with a smile, she leaned up and kissed Caitlyn’s cheek lightly, right where her skin met her jawline. “Just... I’m glad I have you, you know?”

Caitlyn’s breath caught, and for a moment, she felt something powerful stir inside her. It wasn’t anything she had to put into words. It was just the truth.

“I’m glad I have you, too,” Caitlyn replied softly, her hand gently cupping Vi’s cheek.

Vi snuggled closer, her eyes fluttering closed as she relaxed into Caitlyn’s embrace. The gentle rhythm of Caitlyn’s fingers tracing patterns on her skin was enough to lull her into a calm that she hadn’t realized she’d been missing.

But Caitlyn wasn’t ready to leave it at that. As the silence deepened, her heart ached with the desire to tell Vi just how much she meant to her. How the world felt just a little bit more whole with her around. So, as Vi rested in her arms, Caitlyn let her lips hover over Vi’s, close enough that their breaths mingled.

Vi opened her eyes just in time to see Caitlyn’s gaze soften, that tender, vulnerable look that Caitlyn never showed anyone else. Before Vi could say a word, Caitlyn leaned down, pressing her lips to Vi’s in a kiss that was sweet, slow, and full of affection.

It wasn’t rushed or fiery, just soft and full of quiet love. Vi melted into the kiss, her heart fluttering in her chest, as if the whole world had narrowed down to just this moment. Caitlyn’s hand slid gently to Vi’s back, pulling her just a little closer, deepening the kiss ever so slightly, before pulling away, her forehead resting against Vi’s.

“I love you,” Caitlyn whispered, her voice full of softness and sincerity.

Vi smiled, her lips still tingling from the kiss. “I love you too cupcake,” she murmured, closing her eyes again and allowing herself to settle fully into Caitlyn’s embrace.

They stayed like that for a while, in their quiet little world, filled with soft kisses, warm arms, and the comfort of simply being together.
