Summary
No one ever took the time to explain the reasons to him, even as he grew. He'd grown used to the excess caution his father enforced within him, and he eventually stopped questioning why. It was his father, after all. He had loved him. Even if it hurt sometimes to be so lonely, even if he had to keep his hair dyed because his father said the blonde made him stand out, even if he had to endure the rage his father wore on his sleeve like a scalding fire just waiting for the chance to lick at his skin. His father loved him.
So maybe, just maybe, Tommy should have listened to him a little more. Or maybe Tommy shouldn't have trusted the stranger who knew the password, but not his own father's name. Maybe the red flags should have been more obvious.
But red was Tommy's favorite color, after all.And maybe, just maybe, a conspiratorial voice whispered in the back of his mind, he had made the right choice.
OR What happens when Tommy gets kidnapped and actually has no clue?
OR OR The crime AU idea that spawned from a chapter title of a fic in a totally different fandom that I absolutely had to write.
