Chapter 1: you can do great for the world

Chapter Text

it was an honour, if nothing else, to be singled out and chosen to study in piltover. viktor was a young man, no older than 20, and his life was yet to start. he grew tired of his wasted potential, it was only so long a man could make self-heating teapots and metal hats - viktor yearned for more. he desired a chance to make a difference, an opportunity to fulfill his destiny.

so when a small yordle knocked on his fragile, metal door one rainy afternoon, he knew it was fate.

“i’ve seen your ability and i know your potential.” the yordle, named heimerdinger, said, in a little raincoat. “you’re doing good for zaun, but you can do great for the world if you come with me. to the academy. you’ll prosper there, i know it!”

it didn’t take much to convince viktor to leave his shabby house. he was sicker everyday due to the conditions of the undercity, and his talents were being wasted on metal toys.

viktor felt, for the first time, important. a hope stirred in him like none before. heimerdinger’s words stuck in his brain like gum under a shoe.

you’re doing good for zaun, but you can do great for the world.

viktor allowed himself a slight smile, free for once of all his past hinderances.

piltover was larger than viktor remembered, last coming to the city centre when he was a boy. the buildings towered over him, as if he were an ant in the grass. the yordle, heimerdinger, brought viktor along to a large block of flats. with two clicks of the elevator and a long hall, he was brought to his rooms. the place was shared by many of the academy students. viktor felt nervous already at the thought of speaking to them.

”everything you need is inside, including your uniform!” heimerdinger claimed, bright and excited. “let me know if you need help unpacking, although i see you will be fine.” a look at viktor’s minor box of old part’s he wanted to keep. “do tell me if the uniform doesnt fit, we have many alternative sizes.”

”thank you, heimerdinger. this is remarkable.”

”don’t sweat it kid! get some rest, i’ll be sure to show you around in the morning.
