Work Text:

Pete sat on his bed, roughly straightening his hair with one of the many flat irons he had, trying not to burn his hair off. He wanted to make his hair look perfect. This was the first date he was gonna have with the crush he had for years, and he didn’t want to ruin it by looking stupid. Pete never put much effort into things, so this would probably bring surprise to others. He was lucky to have Patrick even say yes, so he wanted to make Patrick feel like he had done the right thing. He had smooth eyeliner spread across the outer parts of his eye, slightly smudged.

This night had to be perfect, Patrick deserved it for Pete ‘accidentally’ burning him with a flat iron, which Pete thought was funny, but Patrick had to run his arm under running water for an uncomfortable amount of time, so you could imagine how he had felt. It was only about 2 or so weeks ago, so Pete had to do something to make up for that little incident, or else Patrick would ‘hate him forever’, according to what Pete’s mind thought. Plus, they were on a small break from tour, so he had to make the little time he had between now and when they were going back to touring worth it.

He turned the flat iron off once his hair looked nice, placing it down onto his desk. His outfit looked good, stylish and cool to him, strange to others, but he wasn’t trying to impress others, he was trying to impress Patrick. There was a cold breeze spilling throughout his room - probably from his window being open, but he ignored it.

Pete searched around for his keys, forgetting where he had last left them. He forgot things a lot, but learned to accept the forgetfulness. His keys were found between his headboard and his mattress, and he snatched them before they slipped onto the ground. He shoved his keys into his pocket, along with his phone.

He ran out of his room, practically gliding on the wood panelled floors below him - like stars would glide across the night sky. He jumped out of his house and sped to his car, snowflakes falling from the sky above him. He hopped into the driver’s seat, breathing heavily. Pete didn’t know why he did all of that, maybe to be able to see Patrick earlier than he would have if he walked normally? He couldn’t even figure out his own thoughts sometimes.

Pete placed his car key into the small slot that it was supposed to go in, watching as it slid into the spot with only a small push. He took a random cd out from his middle console, gently pulling the cd out of its casing and putting it into the cd slot that was combined with his car radio. Pete pulled out of his driveway, trying not to let the excitement of going on a date with Patrick get to him, so he wouldn’t immediately start speeding.

The road was frosted over with ice, snowflakes falling from the sky onto the already slippery road. Pete drove past Christmas carollers and overly decorated houses, the only thought sitting in his mind being that he was about to go on a date with the one and probably only person he loved, don’t question him, he was practically a love bug.

The day felt perfect for a date, sounds of joy and laughter filling Pete’s ears. The closer he got to Patrick’s house, the more excited he got. The air was filled with the smell of candy canes and Christmas songs blasting from nearby shops speakers, which would usually piss Pete off, but something felt different today. December wasn’t his favourite month - but it was Patrick’s. Patrick always loved the spirit of Christmas their city had, decorations everywhere, and the random carols you would hear when you passed by groups of people, whether it was morning or night.

Pete always wondered if maybe he would be able to see Christmas like Patrick was able to, and today was the day that he finally did. What a sight it truly was though, the cheerful people with their families, happy couples enjoying their time together. Maybe him and Patrick would be like that someday, deeply in love without a care for anything else in the world.

He drove up Patrick’s street, houses decorated with bright inflatables, colourful lights, and other holiday related decorations. There were kids running around and throwing snowballs at each other, some making snowmen that eventually got destroyed by teenagers looking to ruin other people’s day. Pete drove straight to Patrick’s house, stopping his car in front of his front yard. He was about to honk his car horn, but hesitated for a moment.

This didn’t feel real, it felt more like a dream. There was no way he had even been able to get Patrick to go on a date with him, but here he was - sitting in his car, which was in front of his house. Pete could bet a million dollars that Patrick was probably gonna stand him up. Everything felt too perfect to actually be true, but as his mind was racing with negative thoughts, he noticed Patrick running out of his house happily and towards Pete’s car. He looked like an angel to Pete, snowflakes fluttering down onto him.

Patrick knocked on the car window, smiling softly, a warm blush glistening onto his cheeks from the cold weather. Pete rolled down the car window, gazing into Patrick’s eyes. He started to feel blush flowing onto his cheeks, butterflies deciding to settle into his stomach even though they haven’t been there for years.

“H-hi, Pete.!!” Patrick said quietly, looking down at the ground as his cheeks grew redder. Patrick quickly slipped a small wrapped box out of his pocket and handed it to Pete, smiling slightly. “Can you umm.. unlock the doors?” He said softly, walking around the front of the car to the passenger door. Pete unlocked the doors, watching as Patrick opened the car door and slid into his seat, putting his seatbelt on.

Pete placed the gift onto a slot in the dashboard, gazing at Patrick for a moment before starting to drive away from the house. They had planned to go to a small park, not too far from Patrick’s house. Just a nice, sweet first date. It didn’t seem too special for others, but for Pete, it seemed like the most important thing ever. “So.. um.. What do you want to do when we get to the park?” Pete said happily, trying to resist the urge to stare at the living angel sitting right beside him.

“..we already planned this out. Please don’t tell me you forgot already.” Patrick said sadly, frowning slightly. He gazed out the window at all the glistening Christmas decorations, the frown on his face turning into a bright smile in the span of seconds.

“Wait- No, I didn’t forget. I was just wondering if there was anything else you wanted to do?” Pete said quickly, smiling widely as he gazed at Patrick for a slight second, who was placing a different CD into the car radio - since the other one had stopped playing. A few minutes later, they arrived at the park. It was a small, snowy park that had some benches, and a fair amount of trees.

The two got out of the car, Pete getting out a bit after Patrick because he had to stop the engine, and also grab the present before he left the car. Pete quickly took Patrick’s hand and pulled him towards one of the benches, sitting down with him as he excitedly gazed at the gift he got. “I can’t believe you got me a gift, Patrick!!” Pete said happily, beaming with excitement. He quickly tore the wrapping paper off of the box, and excitedly opened the box. “Wow!! A new journal, and a necklace! Thanks, Trick!!” He exclaimed happily, looking at the two items.

“You’re welcome, Pete! I got you the um.. journal cause you always finish them from all the lyrics you write. Anyway, did you get me anything?” Patrick said softly, resting his head on top of Pete’s shoulder, smiling brightly. Pete wrapped his arm around him, and wondered, did he get him a gift? He pondered for a moment but then remembered he had a teddy bear sitting in his back seat that he had gotten for Patrick, he’d get that later.

“Yup! I’ll give it to you on the way back.” Pete said softly, ruffling Patrick’s hair a bit. He kissed the top of his head, and gazed at the sky, which was turning into a dark blue, hosting bright white stars and unique snowflakes falling from puffy clouds. He ruffled his hands into Patrick’s hair to occupy him as he stared into the sky.

Pete had wanted to do something like this with someone for forever, and now he was, gazing at the sky with who he thought was the most beautiful person on earth. He couldn’t believe he was on a date on such a perfect day like this, where the sky was beautiful, and everything was more beautiful than normal. Patrick was fragile like a glass ornament, easily shatterable. Which is why Pete tried to make sure he was always happy, he treated Patrick like he was the most precious person on earth, and he was, to Pete at least.

Patrick snuggled closer to Pete, starting to gaze at the sky as well. ”Do you ever think - maybe, in another universe, we’re both stars? In the sky, we’d be like, really close together!” Patrick exclaimed happily, sitting up and gazing at Pete instead of the sky. Pete moved his attention from the sky to Patrick, thinking of an answer, but nothing came to mind.

“I hope we’re best friends in every universe! Never enemies. I never want you to be my enemy, and I never wanna be your enemy.” Patrick said softly, gazing into Pete’s eyes, blush starting to rest on his face again like it was staying in a hotel. They both knew that dates didn’t last forever, but they wanted this one to.

“Me too. Wanna go for a walk around the park?” Pete said softly. Patrick nodded, and the two stood up, taking eachother’s hands. They started walking around the rest of the small park, which didn’t have much to see, but it felt like the perfect place. Pete gazed over at Patrick, and he’d be lying if he said he didn’t wanna kiss Patrick on the spot. He tugged Patrick over to the car after a while.

Pete looked into the other's eyes, and he looked into Pete’s aswell. The two’s faces got closer, closer, and closer, until there was no space between their lips, not enough room to take a nice cold breath. It wasn’t that long of a kiss, but Pete knew he would cherish it forever in his heart. They both stepped into the car, without a word, Pete starting up the car as Patrick gazed out the window at the snow that was still falling from the sky.

Pete succeeded in starting up the car without Patrick noticing, and saw this as an opportunity to grab the present he had. He quickly snatched the teddy bear from the back seat and got back into his normal position, smiling widely. Pete tapped Patrick on the shoulder, causing him to turn around in confusion and immediately squeal with happiness as he saw the soft plush. He tugged it from Pete’s hands and hugged it tightly, a warm smile forming his lips.

Pete could feel his heart tug a little as he watched Patrick cherish the teddy bear, he started driving back to Patrick’s house, not thinking of the new relationship that would bliss from this small date, which would end up being the best day of Pete’s life. Snowflakes pattered against the car windows as Pete drove away from the park, reminding him of the small but sweet date that he had just been on.
