Missed call from Ekko
Ekko entered Vi 's room, looking anxious. "Is everything alright, little man?" Vi asked, rubbing her eyes and sitting up straight in bed.
"Why was the door open?" Ekko asked, sitting in the chair in front of her bed. "It's not like Vander did it."
"Yeah, well, he doesn't need to know, does he?" Vi replied.
Ekko looked at her steadily. "Like I said, he doesn't need to know."
He rolled his eyes and sighed. "So, why did you come here? I hope it's not just to wake me up from my fabulous dream I was having." Vi said
"Mhm, I bet it involved cupcakes..." Ekko replied and she smiled, thinking about it.
"No, but seriously, I really need your help," Ekko added
"And I would do that because?" Vi asked, sitting closer to him.
"You owe me," Ekko replied.
"Do I? I actually don't remember owing you anything," Vi said.
"You don't remember? So I guess you wouldn't mind me telling Vander about how you snuck out last Friday to see your... cupcake, huh?" Vi chuckled and shook her head.
"Oh yeah, I think I can remember that night vividly," Vi said, sighing and slumping her shoulders.
"So what do you need my help with? Skipping a class? Cheating on the finals?" Ekko looked insulted.
"What? No! I would never cheat on finals... uh, no, this is way more important." Vi raised her eyebrows at him.
"More important than finals? That's a new one."
"I... Well, uhm... Do I have to ask for permission first? I... I don't know, well," Ekko said, coughing nervously before exhaling and finally saying, "I need you to help me ask Powder to come to the winter ball with me."
"Are you serious?" Vi asked, trying to hold back a laugh.
"Oh, you don't have to ask permission from me, but from Vander," Vi said.
"Oh yeah, this is serious. Your first Snow Ball is not like taking Powder to the cinema. You have to cook for the whole family to ask for their permission, you know... traditions."
He looked at her with a confused expression and was silent for a minute. Vi was about to lose it.
"Really? But... I don't know how to cook..." Ekko said.
"Oh, little man, so unlucky for you," Vi replied, trying to keep a serious face.
"So I can't take her to the ball if I don't cook for you?" Ekko asked.
Vi shook her head with a serious expression. "Does it count if I buy some food?"
Ekko asked with hope in his innocent eyes, "Hmm... well, I suppose it does, but only if it's Taco Bell."
"Why Taco Bell?" He asked.
"Hey, don't ask me, I don't make the rules... it's tradition," Vi replied.
He nodded, thinking about it for a second, then he realized something. He grabbed a pillow and threw it at Vi's face.
"That is your favorite fast food restaurant!" Ekko said, offended, as Vi started laughing.
"You believed it for a second!" Vi exclaimed.
"You're ridiculous," Ekko said, standing up and starting to walk away.
"I'll just do it by myself."
"Oh, come on! It was just a little joke. I'll help, I'll help," Vi said, standing up and going after him.
"You promise not to make fun of me anymore?" Ekko asked.
"I do... partially," Vi replied.
Ekko started walking away again.
"Okay, fine! I promise I won't." Vi held her hands up in surrender.
"Yeez, you're such a baby."
"Okay, so do you have any ideas on how I could ask her out?" Ekko asked.
"I may have some ideas. You know, I'm the best at this romantic shit," Vi bragged with a smirk on her face. ”I’m like cupid but in gay.” Ekko just looked at her weirdly.
“If you say so.”
...
"We have nothing, Vi," Ekko said.
“Come on, don't be like that, we have plenty of time” She tried to cheer him up.
“You said you were good at this stuff!”
“Well yeah, gay stuff. Duh.” Ekko grabbed his head with his hands in frustration.
"Oh, wait! I think I have a friend who could help," Vi added, pulling out her phone.
"Jayce? No, no, don't call Jayce."
"Jaybe…”Vi replied with a look in her eyes.”Why not?" she asked, frowning and turning to look at Ekko.
"We will get even more stuck, and I really need some progress here," Ekko replied, tapping his pen on the table.
"That's offensive, bro," Vi said.
"You guys aren't even able to do something useful, not even if your life depended on it," Ekko said.
"We can do useful shit!" Vi exclaimed.
"Yeah, like what?" Ekko asked.
"We fixed Viktor's phone!" Vi said.
"You broke it," Ekko replied.
"But we fixed it."
"No, you sent it to fix, that's different," Ekko replied.
"But it worked, perhaps whose idea it was?" Vi asked.
"Didn't they steal it?" Ekko asked.
"Hey, that wasn't on us," Vi said.
"But you were the ones who gave it to that creepy man!" Ekko exclaimed.
"Jayce said he looked nice!" Vi replied.
Ekko gave up and sighed. "Okay, whatever. My point is-" He shook his head and then saw a portrait on Vi's wall. "Wait! Wait, I know what to do!"
...
"Thanks for dinner, Mom," Caitlyn said as she stood up from the table. "I'll go get some homework done."
“Sure, honey” Her mom gave her a warm smile as she walked out the dining room.
While she headed towards her room, she could hear her phone ringing. It stopped before she could answer it, but immediately started ringing again. Then she realized she had 10 missed calls from "Vi<3".
"Cait, I need your help!" Vi shouted just as Caitlyn answered.
"Violet, are you okay?" Caitlyn asked.
There was silence for at least 5 seconds.
"Violet?"
"Why did you use my full name?" Vi pouted.
"What? Oh, I just thought it was an emergency," Caitlyn replied.
"So you're not mad?" Vi asked.
"Why would I be mad?" Caitlyn asked, laughing softly.
Vi chuckled and replied, "I don't know, maybe I forgot some of the cheesy crap you like to do."
"Cheesy crap I like to do?" Caitlyn repeated.
"No, no, I meant-" Vi started stumbling over her words.
"Just go to the point, Vi," Caitlyn interrupted, and Vi sighed in relief.
"Okay, well... you know the winter ball is coming, and-" Vi started.
"You're not asking me to go with you through the phone, right?" Caitlyn asked.
"What?! No, no, no, no! I would never ask you something like that on the phone. It would be something big, you know? Like a... I don't know, but well... you haven't asked me either," Vi replied.
"Is that what you called for? To complain about me not inviting you to the winter ball?" Caitlyn asked.
"No, no, you know Ekko? Well, he wants to ask Powder to go with him," Vi said.
"Oh, that's... cute," Caitlyn replied. "And how may I assist you?" Caitlyn asked.
"Do you still have your painting stuff?" Vi asked.
...
The next day, they were walking down the street, approaching the usual place where they hang out with Vi's siblings. It was an abandoned house at the end of the street they'd found when they were younger.
"So, where are we exactly going?" Caitlyn asked after a few minutes of walking with her backpack full of art supplies.
"Just trust me, cupcake," Vi said with a smirk on her face.
"Are you sure this is romantic?" Ekko asked, frowning at the mess of the house in front of them.
"Yeah, definitely. She'll love it. Trust me," Vi said, heading towards the big wall at the back of the house. "This should be big enough."
"So, what is exactly what you want to do?" Caitlyn asked.
"This is the main idea," Vi said. holding a sketchbook and showing it to Cait.
"God, this is... beautiful," Caitlyn said.
"Little man here did it," Vi said.
"Oh yeah? Well, it's cute that you actually put some effort into your relationship," Caitlyn said.
"Thanks, but she's not my girlfriend... yet," Ekko said, scoffing.
"I put in the effort too!" Vi exclaimed.
"I never said you didn't," Caitlyn replied.
"But you did," Vi said.
"Did I?"
"Girls, come on. We have work to do," Ekko interrupted, clapping his hands as Caitlyn placed her backpack on the floor.
The tasks were clear: Ekko was drawing while Caitlyn painted the sketches he made.
"So, what do I do?" Vi asked.
Caitlyn and Ekko looked at each other in silence.
"Well, you can... uhm... clean the... brushes, yeah," Caitlyn said. Ekko continues his work.
"Are you serious? You get to paint, little man gets to draw, and I get the useless shit?" Vi asked.
"What? No... of course, it's not useless at all. I mean...we need them clean, don't we? And someone has to do it," Ekko replied.
"Fine, fine," Vi said in defeat. "Bullies."
"Just so you know, I'm an expert at drawing," Vi added.
"Mhm, sure you are," Ekko mumbled.
"Whatever, we need some music here," Vi said, pulling out her phone and scrolling through some songs. She decided to play "Ric Flair Drip" by Offset, featuring Metro Boomin.
"Ugh, that song sucks," Caitlyn said immediately and took Vi's phone. "You have zero taste in music, you're definitely banned from music picking."
She said while reproducing one of the new songs of Seraphine.
"No! Don't put that on my phone, it's going to mess up my Spotify Wrapped," Vi said, but Caitlyn knew she secretly loved it.
"And... I don't get to pick any song?" Ekko asked after a while of painting with Seraphine songs playing in the background.
"No," both Vi and Caitlyn said in unison.
"Mean," Ekko said.
So the music kept playing while they painted, and Vi cleaned more brushes.
