“You’re the one ruining it.”
Tsukasa stares. His own face stares back, glaring, a sword at his throat.
“What?” He asks.
His other self, the subject of his nightmares… he laughs at Tsukasa, a mad and broken thing.
“I almost saved him,” he says. “Sure, I didn’t remember at first, but I almost saved him. And now I’ll never know if I succeeded, because all I know is your disgust, and your failure.” His eyes darken. “So I’m going to kill you now. And it won’t mean a thing.”
Tsukasa is early on, still hopeful. Great Leader has never remembered before, but Tsukasa realizes his newest life began before his amnesia.
Oh.
Great Leader is still laughing, still cackling. Ripple effects had made him disappear a few times before.
“You are a goddamn monster,” he says. “Worse than me!”
“I’m saving the ones I love!” Tsukasa says. “You just hurt them!”
“Maybe,” Great Leader says. “Or maybe you’re just a fool. A selfish idiot. Maybe it’s your obsession killing all of you!”
The ensuing fight is bloody, and Tsukasa shudders, not dead despite how much he’s bleeding.
“I’m going to keep wasting your time, Kadoya Tsukasa,” Great Leader says. “Because now I know… you’ll ruin my life even if I make it my own.”
Tsukasa glares, the pain won’t take him out, he’s grown too used to it. And past his first death, blood loss isn’t a thing either.
But his body is too broken to stand.
To broken to fight his other self’s words.
It hurts.
(It will be a long time before he realizes the other is right.)
In the final life, he decides Daiki will be happier with the version who first fell for him. So he takes Daiki to Great Leader.
Great Leader does not agree.
