Very Merry Hogwarts Letter

Summary:

The very powerful, ancient and noble house of Glenclave finally has a next generation.

Notes:

Disclaimer - I don't own Harry Potter or A Merry Scottish Christmas. Prompt:

Write an alternate universe (AU) story by transplanting the characters from your most beloved and widely recognized fandom into the smallest fandom you are familiar with. Alternatively, invert the challenge by placing the characters from the smallest fandom into the grandiose world of your biggest fandom.

Feel free to adapt and modify details as needed to make the AU work, the goal is to create a story to showcases the unique elements of two fandoms.

Please be sure to tag both fandoms in the 'fandom' spot when posting the story to show love to the smaller fandom.

Work Text:

The Glencrave family was an ancient and noble wizarding house, very much like the Black family and very much unlike other pure-blood families. As such, when Sarah Morgan ran off with a Muggle boy, pureblood society was rocked off its laurels; in particular, the Black family found itself rocked, given that Sarah Morgan was the intended fiance of Orion Black, which in turn led to a quick marriage to his cousin Walbuga.

Time passed, the past seemingly forgotten, when—

Did you hear?”

Obviously, Aunt Cassiopeia, I wouldn’t know whatever gossip you’ve brought with you through my fireplace,” Walburga said with a huff.

Danielle Glencrave,” Cassipiea started saying.

Has he finally married?” Walburga let out a sniff. “I’d hoped he’d have married sooner and provided a daughter to marry one of my sons to make up for what they did to Orion.”

Don’t you mean…”

I know exactly what I mean,” Walburga said, letting out another sniff. “And I can right tell you, it’s nothing like what you think it is.

I’m sure it’s not an issue of you wanting to remain…”

Well? Is he finally married?” Walburga said. “Goodness knows…”

Daniel Glencrave has come into custody…”

Excuse me?” Walburga stiffened, the news not being what she’d expected.

“…of his niece and nephew.”

Walburga sat there, staring. “Well, that niece will not be going anywhere near either of my boys.

Cassipiea frowned. “Dear. Your father-in-law may have other plans that you, you know.”

Are you really saying that he would…” Walburga felt the color drain from her face.

Well. It is yet to see whether either of them are, well, you know.”

Well, given the trouble he’s put our family through, I hope they’re both squib.”

Luck wouldn ’t be on her side.

So, both of them are?” Danny asked, sitting there frowning.

Apparently, the book detected both were magical, Lord Glencrave,” Minerva McGonagall said. “Normally, I wouldn’t be coming straight to a pureblood family as if their children were Muggleborn, but it’s also not normal for having a letter for what should be a third-year student either. I don’t know at all if the boy attended Ilvermorny, as I’ve not received any form of transfer letter, but then the school may not even know that the parents of one of their students have passed on.”

I see,” Danny said. “I’d not yet asked the children whether or not they were magical or not, because—well, I just didn’t.” He then paused. “And this is going to be awkward, given our past relationship with the Black family, isn’t it?”

Well,” McGonagall said. “Perhaps it won’t be anywhere near as bad as you think it will be?”

You forget that Walburga got on my case about never marrying despite her not giving Orion children for years. I think she finally gave up once. Me having children would have resulted in an uncomfortable age gap between mine and hers, but I don’t even know…”

Two boys,” McGonagall said, letting out a sigh. “One of which is sorted into my house, and as for the other…”

A Blakc in Gryffindor?” Danny shook his head in amusement. “Goodness.”

The other is yet to be sorted,” Walburga said. “He’ll be a first-year like your niece.”

Well, I hope they can get along, that Walburga doesn’t…” Danny took a deep breath. “There was discussion of me marrying her, but—uh. She’s not exactly…”

One of McGonagall ’s eyebrows went up. “I thought all the young men swooned over her.”

Most young men didn’t grow up around her and her personality,” Danny said. “I honestly pity her boys, being raised under her thumb.”

Well, yes,” McGonagall said. “And wasn’t Orion devastated? Wasn’t…”

Walburga, his second choice?” Danny frowned. “Oh. Yes. And if you think about it, the marriage between them was actually the third choice overall, given they’d wanted me too—but father and mother listened, or perhaps they knew her personality too well. And Orion is stuck with her?”

Well, there is that,” McGonagall said. “Shall I speak with the children for you?”

That…” Danny nodded his head. “Yes. If you can put them through the normal special that the Muggleborn go through, as they have been, for all I know, been raised that way.” He took a deep breath. “To which I hope they don’t take offense at.”

I’ll be careful with my words,” the deputy headmistress said.
