Summary
Peter is alone in the world and he can't stand it, he's lost everyone he ever cared about and he's barely scraping 30. Depression is a bitch, and she hits hard. Peter is sinking quickly into a dark place, and doesn't seem to want to pull himself out, doesn't see the point in continuing to invest in a life he feels will only lead to further heartbreak and disappointment.
Wade is all alone in the world and it's the best he's ever had it. Adulthood and independence are bare minimums he didn't think he would live to experience. His life can't get any worse than it has been, but he's also not entirely convinced it can get better. Until he meets Peter, and realizes what he's been missing.
Two men start at rock bottom, one fell there, and the other never got the chance to know anything different.
Luckily for them, it's a lot easier to climb out when you have someone to press your back against.
