Work Text:
Maybe it’s the red wine he’s been sipping on throughout dinner, maybe it’s the hopeful Christmas atmosphere, he’s not sure, but Jeongin is feeling bold tonight. Bolder than usual, anyway. He’s always considered himself a go-getter, his goals crystal clear in his mind, his eyes laser-focused on the final line, and he takes pride in it. That’s why he’s taking a leap tonight, and he’s planning on landing it perfectly.
His friend, roommate and long-time crush Felix and him are walking down the streets of Seoul after a copious dinner at their mutual friend’s house. The cold light from the shop windows and electric signs make Felix shine like starlight. Jeongin’s breath loses its pace there for a moment.
Jeongin braces himself. He’s got this, he just needs to do exactly the same thing he does whenever he’s trying to pick up someone at the club that would hopefully help him forget about his roommate for a while. It’s worked the vast majority of times, it will work with Felix. It has to. No reason to be all jittery about it, right?
Hiding his thumping heart behind an easy smile - a practiced one that shows his dimples - he takes Felix by the hand and halts to a stop. The sudden change of pace makes Felix abruptly turn around and end up in Jeongin’s arms. Exactly as planned.
“Hey there, gorgeous,” Jeongin says in his fuckboy-est voice, words dragged and tone low.
Felix chuckles awkwardly, a confused look painted over his face.
“What’s going on?”
Instead of replying, Jeongin takes a deliberate look at Felix’s heart-shaped lips. So plump, so kissable. He runs his tongue over his own upper lip before returning his gaze to Felix’s sweet, albeit currently quite baffled, eyes. The move is cheeky and straight-forward, but Jeongin knows it works well because it sends a clear message while still giving the other person an out.
The polite smile Felix has been holding drops, his lips parting in shock.
“Oh,” he says.
Oh, indeed , Jeongin thinks, waiting anxiously for Felix’s next reaction
Jeongin fights his flight instincts and stays put, Felix still in his arms and their joined hands trapped between them. He’s already exposed himself, he can’t cower down now.
“Jeongin…” Felix mutters. For a sweet second there, when Jeongin notices Felix’s eyes flickering to his mouth, Jeongin thinks he has him. He can’t believe it worked! Well, he can, it has been the plan all along, hasn’t it? So, he prepares himself for the moment he’s been thinking about for way too long, steadying his feet and tightening his embrace. However, what comes from Felix’s lips isn’t what Jeongin expects. “I’m not one of your disposable one-night stands.”
Felix’s words are harsh, but they don’t sting as much as the cold he leaves behind him when he pulls away from Jeongin.
“What?” Jeongin mumbles, shocked frozen while he watches Felix stomp away, his fists clenched at his sides. “Felix!” he calls once his brain reconnects with his body. “Wait!”
Once again tonight, he takes Felix by his hand to stop him. Felix, however, doesn’t get closer to him this time. He doesn’t even look at Jeongin in the face, keeping his eyes on his feet.
“Why’d you say that?” Jeongin genuinely asks, his voice breaking just a little.
“Why do I say that? Jeongin!” Felix snaps, directing a clearly affronted look at Jeongin. He stomps his foot, apparently frustrated at Jeongin’s cluelessness. “Because! Since we’ve been roommates I’ve seen you flirt with stranger after stranger like they mean nothing! I’ve heard you over the wall, you’re quite noisy, did you know that?! And here I am, harboring a crush for a stupid fuckboy who thinks he can play on me the same cards he plays on anyone who comes along like I will fall for that! Well, guess what? Not. Happening.”
Jeongin’s mouth falls open, his eyes must look like saucers. While he struggles to process everything that’s been said, Felix walks away, ripping away the chance to explain himself from Jeongin.
“Felix! Wait!” For the third and what he hopes it’s the last time, Jeongin grabs Felix by the hand to stop him in his tracks.
Jeongin knows this is his only chance and that he needs to fix it. He’s a go-getter, his goal is crystal clear in his mind, his eyes are laser-focused on Felix’s freckles - because he doesn’t dare look directly in the eye right now, he’s got flaws, whatever.
“Felix, listen… I’m sorry, I was such an idiot.”
“Duh.”
Jeongin knows now that he deserves that, so he takes it like a champ, barely wincing.
“But I was being a pining idiot? If that makes sense? I was pining and then I was an idiot. I was pining for you, just to be clear,” he lets out an awkward huff. He doesn’t dare look at Felix. Instead, his eyes wander around, not taking in much from their surroundings. “I- I guessed, and now I realize the error of my ways, that if those moves worked on everyone else, they’d work on you, hopefully? And you look so pretty tonight, and I’ve been thinking about kissing you for months now, and I felt happy and giddy, and possibly greedy as well, so I thought I’d might as well try my luck…”
“You… Like me?” Felix asks, his voice sweeter, and Jeongin finally dares to meet his eyes.
All traces of anger have disappeared from his face, replaced with a soft smile and a cute blush that Jeongin would swear wasn’t there before.
“How could I not?” is Jeongin’s honest answer. Frankly, how do people manage to go through life without developing the biggest crushes on Felix is a mystery to him.
“You’re an idiot,” Felix says, grabbing Jeongin’s face and squishing his cheeks together to make Jeongin pout. “You’re lucky you’re a cute one,” he adds before leaning in and slotting their lips together. It’s quick, too quick for Jeongin’s likes, but he’ll take it. Heck, he’ll take anything Felix will give him.
The widest grin takes over his face as Felix grabs his hand and tugs him along, restarting their way back home.
