Summary
It's no secret Beomgyu has feelings for Yeonjun. He's never tried to hide it or pretend it doesn't exist. If Beomgyu were an old-fashioned alpha, the way he treats Yeonjun would be considered an offer of courtship, and Yeonjun's allowing it would be considered accepting the offer.
But Beomgyu isn't an alpha, and Yeonjun is an old-fashioned omega. He wants to be courted, and scented, and marked, all of which are things Beomgyu can't do for him, no matter how much he tries to pretend otherwise.
It hurts. He never hated his subgender until he met Yeonjun

Summary
Yoonah always used to tell Beomgyu this, even when he was a child and far too young to swim up to land.
"Stay away from humans, Beomgyu. They're all the same: vicious and cruel. They don't love you. They just want the pride of keeping a wild creature. And whatever you do, always hide your cloak.
Beomgyu remembers the longing in her voice when she talked about home. He remembers the freedom in her laughter as she found her coat, the happiness in her eyes as she pressed a kiss to his forehead, and the delight as she dove into the sea, never to be seen again.
Beomgyu made a decision, then, to never let a human close enough to even know about his coat.
Yeonjun's different, though. At least, that's what he tells himself.

Yeonjun isn't stupid, okay, regardless of what Soobin says. He knows Beomgyu has feelings for him he just... doesn't understand.
Doesn’t Beomgyu want an alpha? Doesn’t he want to be marked, doesn’t he crave the feeling of being mated? Yeonjun can’t give those things to him– he’s just another omega.
He wants to, though. So deeply he aches with it. He wants to scent Beomgyu, wants Beomgyu to help him through his heats, wants to mark Beomgyu and be marked back. It's stupid, Yeonjun knows they could never be together like that.
But like this, curled up on the couch with Beomgyu tucked in his arms, he likes to think they could make it work.
