Staying up too late

Summary:

"Pedri practically ran to his door once the bell rang. He knew only one person would come visit him at 9pm."

Or; Pedri and Gavi always stay up too late if they stay at each other's place and are sleep deprived afterwards. So why not solve the problem?

Work Text:

Pedri practically ran to his door once the bell rang. He knew only one person would come visit him at 9pm. And he was correct. There stood Gavi, his pretty features illuminated so perfectly by the shimmer of light from inside. Pedri practically swung himself into his arms, not giving him a second to breathe or say hello.

Gavi slung his arms just as thighly around Pedri's shoulder and waist. For a moment they stayed like that, just holding onto each other and breathing the other in.

"I missed you." Pedri admitted, not removing his head from Gavi's neck. "I missed you too." Gavi pressed little kisses to Pedri's neck, which the older was enjoying quite a lot. He had to contain himself to not moan in that second on his door step.

"We're pretty pathetic." He mumbled once he finally found the will power to move himself a little away from his boyfriend. Gavi grinned as an answer and snatched Pedri's hand on the way inside. "I mean, we saw each other like eight hours ago at practice."

"Hmmh." Gavi hummed settling onto Pedri's couch. "Yeah, but normally I would have gone home with you."

Now it was Pedri's turn to huff. "Yeah, I didn't like that." As soon as he was setting down onto the couch he and Gavi both gravitated towards each other, before they were a bunch of mixed limps, not knowing where one part began and the other ended. Gavi had his head on Pedri's shoulder and his arm around Pedri, while Pedri had Gavi's legs in his lap and a hand in his hair. "Screw that. I still don't get why you had to go home."

"I had to clean my God damn apartment." Gavi laughed, nuzzling his face into Pedri's neck. "No, you didn't." Pedri argued back. "You are here more than you are there. You spend like the whole weekend and sometimes a random day here." Pedri huffed.

"Yeah, but the rest of the time I spend at my place..." Gavi rolled his eyes at Pedri.

"Well, then stop doing that and then you don't have to clean and then we don't have to miss each other."

Gavi laughed before he turned Pedri's face to him so he could finally kiss him. It was a sweet, passionate kiss lasting an entirety and once they separated, they just dove in to devour the lips of the other again. But they didn't go further then kissing. Gavi was exhausted, cleaning was fucking tiering. And Pedri didn't have a lot of energy either. He was finally back from an injury, which was great, but it was so much more exhausting than it would have been if he didn't have to pause for two months.

"You know I love you, right?" Gavi questioned, placing a last small kiss to Pedri's lips. "Yeah." Pedri grinned. Gavi made him so fucking happy all the time, he had to avert his gaze and concentrate on picking a movie on the TV so he wouldn't start crying. It meant so much too him, so fucking much, but when he tried to tell Gavi that he felt the same, that Gavi was everything to him too, the lump in his throat just let a "hmhfpf" through.

Gavi knew anyway. He knew Pedri better than anyone. And he knew when the older was so emotional that he couldn't even reply. In a way it was super cute, but Gavi had decided to tell him so often that Pedri was going to be used to it and eventually would see that it wasn't a weakness or overwhelming or whatever stopped him from saying it back, to say it back to him. But he had also decided that he was never going to take Pedri telling him "I love you" as granted.

Pedri pulled up one of the spider man movies. Not their absolute favorites, but good enough. And they had started it recently and fell asleep, so they were going to watch the second half again.

It was nice both Pedri and Gavi loved the time they spend together, even if it was something seemingly meaningless like cuddling and watching a movie together, because for them, the time spent together could never be meaningless, it was special and perfect in every way.

The whole time throughout the movie Pedri had to fight his body not to fall asleep, he felt so safe and warm with Gavi next to him, it was impossible not to relax. But he wanted to savoir every minute of the time he had with Gavi, because he knew tomorrow after a late romantic breakfast, they would have practice and after that Gavi would go home to his place. They would both need it, because they knew they would stay up too late today and it was always like that, so they had a day or two in-between to catch up on some sleep before one of them slept at the other's place again.

Pedri knew it was the smart thing to do and they had to be responsible, had to look out for their bodies, because they were already pushing them to the limits with how many games they played and tournaments they had and practices they had to attend, but still Pedri always dreaded the nights without his boyfriend there and it wasn't just his warmth he missed, but also the feeling of not being alone and as if anything was possible and their own little world. So he tried to stay awake, tried to cherish every minute he had with Gavi, and not fall asleep.

After the movie they loaded up FIFA.  Although Gavi was just as tired, he wanted to spend as much time with Pedri too. Yeah, they got to see each other at practice again, but they couldn't be as open with each other as they wanted to at Camp Nou, safety measures. So, he tried everything to stay awake as well.

They had lots of fun trying to beat each other. And since no one was around, they used tactics that were a little... unfair and just for their own game. Although, they were both pretty bad, Pedri was a little better (it might have been because he stayed calm, and kept thinking). Gavi made up with enthusiasm, though. And with tricks.

"Pedri! I haven't had the ball in like ages, pass it to me now!"

Pedri laughed as Gavi jumped up at a chance to get the ball, no one actually tired anymore.

"That's not how the game works, Pablito."

Gavi huffed and pushed him from the couch. "Hey!" Pedri complained, but Gavi didn't even gaze in his direction, he was too busy scoring. Pedri wasn't mad though, with that huge grin on his face it was impossible to be mad at Gavi.

"Ha! Did you see that? I can score after all."

Pedri laughed. "Yeah, you're right, the score is only 2:6, that was a great goal." Pedri's voice dripped with irony.

"Shut up!" Gavi hit him with a pillow. "That is only because you keep throwing things at me! Look, there are the pillows on the ground and the cup over there and the fricking tissues and the remote."

"Yeah, look, I scored again." Pedri grinned.

"Argh, I hate you." Gavi threw his controller to the side and jumped onto Pedri. They fought for a while rolling around and laughing, the game completely forgotten, until Pedri surrendered and Gavi laid himself on top of his boyfriend. "Who won now?!" He grinned, but Pedri just flicked his fingers against his head.

They settled for a draw, so they had to play another game. This time Gavi decided on a different strategy. Of course he was still very emotional and jumping around and screaming, but he tried to remain calmer. Instead he started to put his hand on Pedri's inner thigh and shifted it higher and higher. To be fair, it was fucking hard to play like this, but Pedri's reaction made it worth it. First, he started to give him some looks, before his concentration shifted away from the game. "Gavi..." But Gavi just grinned. Pedri was fully looking at him now and Gavi was scoring another goal.

"Yes?" He asked with his nicest angle voice. "What do you think you're doing?" Gavi was rubbing his hand up and down Pedri's inner leg, very close to his croatch. "What do you mean?" Gavi was still pretending not to know anything. "I'm playing a game."

"Yeah, but I think you are playing a different game then me." Pedri said ironicly. "I'm winning FIFA, I don't know what you are doing." Gavi couldn't keep up the straight face and let the grin take over. And at that moment he scored the 3:1 in the 90st minute. He threw Pedri a smug look once he was done celebrating.

"I hate you." Pedri mumbled, throwing a pillow at Gavi and himself backwards onto the couch. "This is stupid."

"Aww." Gavi grinned and kneeled down next to Pedri. "I'm sorry." He didn't look sorry at all, but he kissed Pedri on the lips, so Pedri let it slide. "Good thing you're pretty." Pedri mumbled, which made Gavi blush. He wasn't used to receiving compliments, because Pedri had his problems with vocal love, so he never knew what to do when it actually happened. Shyly he turned around.

His gaze shifted to the clock. "It's already past 2 am!" They were both shocked, since they were supposed to be asleep two hours ago. "Let's go to bed." Pedri suggested, holding his hands up for Gavi to pull him up. Gavi did, not without pulling him into a tight embrace and a kiss to the neck though. Pedri ran his hand through Gavi's hair, which made him relax against Pedri. "Yeah." He mumbled, before they separated, turned off all the lights, and went to the bedroom.

They were tired and supposed to be asleep, but they dragged out the time in the bathroom, joking around with their toothbrushes in their mouths and in Gavi's case with wet hair (he was trying to be funny...) But after a while even that was done and they had no excuse anymore why they shouldn't go to bed, and so Pedri settled on one side, and Gavi on the other, face towards each other with their legs in a mess and their hands slung around the other. It didn't take long for Gavi to close his eyes and fall asleep, but Pedri didn't want this to end. He turned onto his back, slowly lifting Gavi's arms, to not wake him Why couldn't Gavi stay here the whole time? Why couldn't he wake up next to him every morning? He was missing him already. And he needed Gavi around, always.

And then it hit him. Why couldn't Gavi be here the whole time. They were full grown adults and had their own house and apartment. "Gav?" Gavi didn't respond. "Pablo?" Pedri hit him gently with his elbow. "Hmmm." "Gavi?"

"Yeah?" Gavi mumbled and snuggled closer to Pedri. "Move in with me?" Now Gavi was awake. Pedri could also feel the change in his body, he stiffened next to him and scooted a bit away. "I mean it doesn't have to be my place, I guess I could also move into your place, but I thought this was bigger and I always miss you when you're not around and I'm already missing you, so why not solve the problem. And I know we aren't even together for that long, not even a year, barely more than a half, and I also know we are quite young, with only 19 and 20, although I'll be 21 soon and-"

"Pedri."

"it doesn't have to be immediately, but-"

"Pedri."

"I think it would work, we are best friends after all."

"Pedri!"

Pedri paused and looked at Gavi. By now they were both sitting with their backs to the back of the headboard. "You're rambling, darling." Gavi grinned.

"Oh."

"Yeah oh. You know you have to give me time to wake up, process and respond, right?"

"Yeah..."

Pedri felt a little stupid, but Gavi made it all better with a big grin and a sweet kiss. "I love you. You're cute." Gavi reassured, which earned him a soft hit against the forehead. "Stop it, back to topic, you haven't answered."

"Well, it's a big question, give a man some time." Gavi had snuggled back up to Pedri, with his head resting against Pedri's shoulder.

"Do you have a plan for all this?"

Pedri didn't up until this moment, it all seemed so much easier now that he was voicing his thoughts out loud to someone who understood him and never thought bad if him. "Kind of. Well, I thought since you are here half of the time already, you would stay here, and it is also the bigger place, but I truly do not care at all." Pedri was ready to sell this all in a heartbeat to spend as much time as possible with Gavi. "We could start slow. You have a lot of things here already. I don't think you would have to get anything right now. And then you could stay for like two weeks as a practice and if it works maybe a month and so on."

Gavi hummed. "Yeah, or we skip some of the steps in between. We can start with two weeks and if it works, I'll just stay here for the rest of my life." Pedri knew it was a joke meant to make him relax, but he couldn't stop his heart from beating a little too fast and his stomachs from doing flips. A life time with Gavi. But that was a thought for a different night. It was too big to unpack now. Instead he scooted a bit closer and snug a hand around Gavi's waist to pull him in even more.

Gavi smiled at him, and the way he looked at Pedri was like he had never seen anything more valuable, anything more pretty, and anything more bright. He looked at him as if he was his world. It filled Pedri with even more love for Gavi.
And Pedri did hold Gavi's wold. His life had changed so much, it was like there was always something missing, something that brought Gavi peace, and with Pedri he finally found it. He didn't know what he would do without Pedri and he prayed that the older would never get tired of him. He certainly wouldn't.

"So is that a yes?"

"Sure why not."

And that was that. At least for Gavi, who laid back down.

"What? That's it?" Pedri was surprised, he didn't think it would be this easy.

"Yeah. I don't see a reason why we shouldn't try it. Honestly, I don't know why we didn't earlier. And if it doesn't work, we'll try again in a few months." Pedri seemed happy with that answer and laid back down, immediately cuddling up to Gavi, and Gavi up to Pedri.

"For saying you aren't a fan of physical touch you are pretty close." Gavi teased. He could feel Pedri rolling his eyes. "I don't. You're just special. And besides you practically forced me to like it." Gavi grinned. "Yeah, I did! I love having you this close." Pedri pretended to be annoyed, but Gavi knew he loved being this close to Gavi too and having him in this way.

For a while it was silent, but neither of them fell asleep, they just relished in the company of the other.

"Pedri? Why did you ask me if I want to move in with you, when I was asleep at like three in the morning? Wasn't there a better time?"

Pedri laughed. "I don't know. Maybe one day I'll ask you at four am if you want to marry me." It was meant to be a joke, but Gavi didn't take it as one

"Nah, forget it. You got to ask this question and if I want to be your boyfriend. You should let me take a turn on asking."

Pedri huffed. "You kissed me first, and I asked after that, but we'll see. I guess who ever goes first." And if Gavi didn't love a competition. "I'll win." He grinned pressing a kiss to Pedri's lips, before Pedri pulled him closer and they finally fell asleep.
