Overcoming Sadness

Summary:

Since the Salvatore brothers arrived in Mystic Falls, they brought with them more problems than one would imagine. And what bothered Jeremy the most was that his life, besides being filled with problems, was filled with secrets, lies and half-truths.

Jeremy was sick and tired of his sister, Elena, hiding things from him just to "protect" him when what she was really doing was putting him in more danger by not telling him the truth. So, tired of not knowing what was really going on, he decided to follow his sister and her stalker duo to find out what they were hiding from him.

Only he didn't expect to find the truths he was looking for but in a disturbing way and he didn't expect to meet the one who would become the most important thing in his life.

Now he was at a crossroads between following and protecting the woman he loved or protecting his sister at the cost of his life.

It's important to clarify that I don't own the characters of Vampire Diaries and The Originals, all their rights belong to their creators.

I only own the OCs and their backstories.

Notes:

It's always caused me some sadness that poor Finn wasn't given a happy ending...I mean, he spent most of the time with a dagger in his chest and in a coffin only to be killed later. So this is me giving him a happy ending just not with Sage.

Chapter 1: Before Reading

Chapter Text

I'm a little frustrated with myself because I keep posting the ideas I come up with and not uploading chapters of the ones I've already posted hahaha.

I hope to be able to upload chapters of the other stories.

First of all, it's important to clarify that I don't own the characters of Vampire Diaries and The Originals, all their rights belong to their creators.<br />
I only own the OCs and their backstories.

This story, as well as the others, will not be subject to canon. It may or may not happen in the series, depending on how it is necessary.

Jenna is alive, because in my stories Jenna will always be alive if she is in my hands.

Small criticism to Elena, but she has her redemption...I hope hahaha.

It is not friendly with Damon or Stefan (what a surprise hahaha) so if you are a fan of them this story is not for you. It's also not friendly with Bonnie.
I have nothing against them but all my ideas are like that...well Bonnie not so much but aha.

Nothing more to add, regards.

Chapter 2: Rescue People

Chapter Text

Jeremy was sick and tired of his sister taking over his life as if she were his mother. She didn't have the right to keep things from him, especially if his life was in danger.

He understood that after the death of their parents, his sister fell into a state of depression. Then she came out of that depression and became practically his shadow, wanting to keep an eye on him and wanting to know everything he did. And it is understandable, he became a drug addict, had a relationship with an older woman who took advantage of him and only used him for pleasure and drugs. But that didn't give him the power to choose what Jeremy should or shouldn't know. And even more considering that Jenna was the guardian of the two, the one who should watch over their safety, but apparently Elena was also hiding things from him so she didn't know what to think of her sister's reasoning.

So after eavesdropping on his sister talking to the idota duo and hearing mention of Whitmore College, he made the decision to go to the place and see what he could find.

Jeremy did his best to keep his sister and her friends from realizing what he was planning to do, and it's not like they were paying that much attention to him either. So it was moderately easy to sneak off to college one night when he knew everyone was going to be busy. It was a good thing Whitmore was only a few hours away from Mystic Falls.

When he got to Whitmore he didn't know what to look for or where to go so he just followed his instinct. And he walked around the college hiding in the shadows so the guards wouldn't see him.

After walking for what seemed like a few minutes, he found a door that led to what appeared to be the basement of the university.

Letting out a big breath, he started down the stairs. At the bottom of the stairs he found a door that seemed half open, as he entered he could tell that the place was somewhat large and looked like a doctor's office. Going further into the place looking around he could see more things, when his gaze went to the corner of the room he couldn't help but take a step back from the impression.

There were two cells, inside one was a man who looked somewhat older and in the other was a girl who looked to be the same age as him. Jeremy was horrified to notice that they both seemed to have suffered all sorts of damage and starvation.

Without thinking he quickly approached the girl's cell.

"Hey, hey, wake up. Please" Jeremy's voice was full of fear.

It took the girl about three tries to be able to open her eyes and focus them on Jeremy.

"Who are you?" the girl asked in a hoarse voice. It sounded like she hadn't used it in a long time.

"I'm Jeremy, relax, I don't want to hurt you. I'm going to get you out of here" Jeremy said reaching for the cell lock.

Jeremy started pacing around the place until he found the key to the cell. He quickly walked over to the cell unlocking the door. Calmly, holding up his hands so the girl could see he meant her no harm, he walked over to her to get her out of the cell.

The girl could barely stay on her feet so Jeremy sat her down on the floor for a moment.

"Is there anything I can do to help you?" Jeremy asked not knowing what to do.

"Blood" the girl said in a whisper.

"What?" Jeremy was confused but still looked for the blood the girl was asking for. He only had to walk a few steps when he found a cooler with several bags of blood. Jeremy grabbed several bags and returned to the girl.

As Jeremy handed her the bags of blood he watched as the girl's eyes turned black and filled with black veins. Stepping back, only one thought came to his vampire mind.

When the girl finished taking two full bags, she seemed with more strength. She wailed and walked over to the man in the other cell.

"Enzo, here you go," the girl said handing him the remaining bags.

The man grabbed in one swift movement and began to drink from the blood. Jeremy without helping himself moved closer to the cell and watched as the man slowly stopped looking gray.

"Alessa" Enzo said with a sigh.

Jeremy moved closer to open the cell. And be able to let the man out.

Once Enzo was out he turned his attention to Jeremy.

"Who are you?" there was only curiosity in his voice.

"I'm Jeremy. I don't know what's going on here but we should leave before someone comes," Jeremy said trying to stay calm.

After he finished saying that, the door was heard to open and footsteps could be heard. Enzo with some more strength was able to use his speed and pushed the girl to Jeremy's chest. He told them to be quiet and in the blink of an eye he got rid of the two men draining their blood until they were dead.

Wiping his mouth with the back of his hand, he approached Jeremy and the girl again.

"We have to go now," he said grabbing the girl's and Jeremy's hand.

The girl didn't move from her place.

"I can't leave her here, Enzo" she said in a pitiful voice.

"We don't know if she's still here Alessa" Enzo said in a soft voice.

Apparently there was a third person here. Jeremy started looking all around, until he could see a stretcher that was separated by some curtains.

"There's something there" Jeremy said cutting off the discussion Enzo and Alessa were starting to have.

Seeing the spot Jeremy pointed to, they immediately headed to the site and found a beautiful woman who appeared to be unconscious.

Taking trembling steps, the girl put her hands to her mouth. "Mommy," she said in a tearful voice.

Enzo quickly took the woman in his arms. Jeremy grabbed the girl's hand to leave the place. The girl turned around raising her hand muttered one word.

"Incendia" the room began to burn rapidly.

To say he was shocked would be an understatement for what Jeremy was feeling at the moment.

Once they were out of the place. They took a moment to watch as the place was engulfed in flames.

Jeremy hadn't expected his search to end with the rescue of three strangers. Now he didn't know what he had gotten himself into and what to do next.

"We need to get out of here, before more people arrive," Jeremy told his companions. "I know a place where they could stay for the meantime"

Enzo and Alessa gave him a few looks but in the end decided it was better to follow the guy who had saved them from that hell.

Chapter 3: Lorenzo and Alessa

Sorry for the delay, I hope you enjoy the chapter.

Chapter Text

Jeremy couldn't stop thinking about the events of the night, he saw how Enzo (he still couldn't believe he was a vampire) made a car stop, fed on the person, forced him to take them to the lake house and then made him forget everything. Seeing this, Jeremy now understood a few things regarding the Salvatore brothers and why whenever he was around any of them, he felt his mind fracture and he needed to remember something.

When they were in front of the lake house, Jeremy went to the door and let his companions in. Jeremy watched as they entered with some reluctance, and it was understandable, he couldn't imagine the hell they went through.

“You can put your mother in one of the rooms,” Jeremy said to the girl.

The girl gave him a small nod and followed him into the room, Enzo behind them with Alessa's mother in his arms. Once Enzo put Missandre down on the bed, he was able to take a look around the room, noticing a picture near the bed, he took it seeing that in the picture there was a couple smiling at the camera. But Enzo could only feel a great rage, dropping the photo he approached Jeremy grabbing him by the neck and pressing him to the wall.

“You work for them!” he growled at Jeremy squeezing his neck tighter.

Jeremy began to scratch Enzo's hand trying to get air into his lungs.

“No...I don't know what you're talking about...I don't work for anyone” Jeremy spoke as best he could. He didn't understand what the fuck was going on, from one moment to the next the vampire was attacking him.

Alessa saw that the human was starting to faint, she approached Enzo and tried to push him away “Calm down Enzo! You can't kill him” said Alessa pulling Enzo. Enzo suddenly let go of Jeremy, who fell to the ground coughing heavily and taking big breaths trying to fill his lungs with air.

“Alessa, that boy knows Dr. G” said Enzo showing her the picture that started all the trouble. Alessa grabbed the photo, turned to Jeremy who was still on the floor massaging his throat.

“What are you to this man?” asked Alessa pointing to the man in the picture.

Jeremy didn't understand why they were reacting like that “He's my father” he said standing up. He watched as they both tensed up after hearing him.

“Alessa we have to get out of here, he's related to Dr. G. They could find us again” Enzo quickly pulled Alessa away from Jeremy.

“Wait, what are you talking about, why would my father go after you?” Alessa could tell that Jeremy really didn't know anything.

“Jeremy...your father was one of the doctors in charge of the studies” she said trying not to sound angry since Jeremy was not to blame for what his father had done.

Jeremy opened his eyes wide unable to believe what they were saying, “You must be mistaken...my father was a good doctor” he denied what Alessa was saying.

“Was?” he couldn't help but ask.

“He died in a car accident” she said automatically without thinking. Still thinking about what Alessa had told him.

Enzo couldn't help but let out a snort of derision, “At least we don't have to worry about him anymore” Alessa gave him a little smack to stop him talking.

“I know it must be surprising to hear something negative about a person you thought you knew, but I can swear we didn't lie” Alessa told him gently.

Jeremy knew that these people had nothing to gain by lying to him, now more things were starting to make more sense. He began to remember how his father always seemed to sneak off and have secret conversations on the phone that would quickly end when he walked into the room.

“I'm sorry,” was all he could say.

“No Jeremy, you don't have to apologize for your father's actions, he is the only one responsible for his actions...but I appreciate the apology” Alessa gave him a small smile.

After that, they went back downstairs and sat on the couch in the small living room.

“We thank you for saving us” said Alessa after a few minutes of silence.

“You have nothing to thank us for, the truth is I had only gone to Whitmore to find out what my sister and her pair of fools were hiding...I didn't expect to find a vampire and a witch” Jeremy replied. “I know it's none of my business, but how...how did they end up there?” he couldn't help but ask.

Enzo was the first to speak, “Agustine captured me in 1943 and since that time I have been in a cell, there was another vampire with me...we had made a plan to escape, but it didn't go as expected, he was able to get out and left me rotting there” Enzo's voice was full of anger. Alessa reached out and gave Enzo's hand a squeeze giving him to understand that she was there for him.

“After the fiasco, they moved me to that place and I've been there. In 1990 Alessa arrived. She and her mother were in another division of Agustine and they switched them to where I was” was all Enzo said.

“You see Jeremy, I'm no ordinary supernatural being. I'm half witch and half vampire on my father's side...but I also have a small part of banshee on my mother's side” she began to tell Jeremy, but not before whispering a spell that prevented Jeremy from telling what he was being told. “My mother and I were captured in 1550, this because of a vampire who was obsessed with my father and wanted to get rid of us” Alessa told with anger in her voice.

Alessa told him a little of her life inside Agustine's cells, but without really telling everything, as they still didn't completely trust Jeremy.

After a while, Jeremy realized that it was too late, he had to go home before they noticed his absence.

“I have to go, a few miles away there is a small village, where you can feed, but please don't kill anyone. I'll come by tomorrow to drop off some clothes and other things” Jeremy said getting up from his chair and heading for the door.

“Again thanks for the help” Alessa still couldn't believe they were finally free.

Jeremy gave her a small smile and waved goodbye to Enzo.

Notes:

I hope you liked the chapter.

I don't really remember if in the series they said when Agustine was founded or if there is a concrete date. So I play a little with that information.

Now we know what kind of supernatural being Alessa is!

Later we will know more about her and Missandre's story.

I hope you enjoyed the chapter, see you in the next one!
Greetings and take care!
