Work Text:
Having a bed in the office of the lab seemed like a wise decision when ‘they’ made it, but it turned their friendship into something completely new. The bed idea was brought about from a place of worry on Jayce’s part. He saw the bags under Viktor’s eyes growing, and many mornings showing up with Viktor lightly drooling on his notebook, chalk still in hand. He’d gently nudge him awake and start a pot of coffee, but he didn’t miss the way Viktor would stretch and grind his teeth in pain.
“Viktor, how would you feel about having a bed in the office? Neither of us use it, so that space just goes to waste.” Jayce said, approaching him carefully. Viktor did not like being interrupted while deep in thought, so he was an easy target to quickly agree with any plan Jayce had.
Jayce was only questioned when the movers came in carrying a full size mattress. “What are you doing in there?” Viktor asks, eyebrows knitting in confusion and his mouth tensing at the implications of a bed in their space.
“Viktor, you said it was fine! The bed is to make sure we can catch an hour or two of sleep and get back to our hextech faster. Having it here means we don’t lose time going home, but we also don’t ruin our bodies by sleeping slumped in our chairs or over our work benches.” Jayce said knowing how to appeal to Viktor’s logic after being partners for so long. He only felt the smallest fraction guilty for not really getting his approval.
Viktor hummed as he toyed with the possibility, the idea of having a bed within 2 minutes of him had him plotting many more late night inventing sessions. “Fine.” He huffs, rolling his eyes and finishing another formula on the board. “It can stay for now, but no funny business.” He verbalizes, turning to Jayce with a deeply judgmental stare.
Jayce’s face flushed at the implication as he stuttered, “I wouldn’t!! I never… thought of…doing..” His blush deepened as his brain finally supplied, “I respect you too much to desecrate our space like that.” He looked at Viktor eagerly as if his face could explain how much he (loved) liked Viktor.
Viktor couldn’t say no to that sad and desperate, but cute look on Jayce’s face, much like a puppy begging to be let inside. He let Jayce see him roll his eyes and returned to his equations. Soon the day turned to night, and the night crawled into early morning. Jayce left around 1 and said he needed to stop by his home for schematics and would be back as soon as he could. Viktor continued. Viktor looked back at the clock in their workshop; it was 3 in the morning.
“Ah, shit.” He mumbled to himself, he really needed to stay and work on the hextech, but Jayce’s thoughtfulness penetrated his resolve. He found himself peeking into their office and the mattress had been set up with pillows and blankets galore. It was honestly a little bit nicer than his set up in his apartment, the bed he was able to get was secondhand and he only had a thick blanket and one pillow decorating it.
He sighed to himself as he removed his brace and stripped his clothes off not wanting to have them wrinkle from sleep. Viktor laid down in the softest bed he’d ever been in, he pulled up the plush blanket and laid another on top for good measure since he was always cold, and fluffed the pillow behind him to his liking. He fell asleep, to his embarrassment, rather quickly. When he woke up to the smell of coffee and Jayce humming something familiar he sunk deeper into the bed, not wanting to break the dream.
The happy trace broke when Jayce popped his head inside the office door and teased, “You getting up anytime soon Sleeping Beauty?”
That snapped Viktor wide awake, he shot up in bed forgetting that he was only in his boxers and undershirt and quickly slipped on his clothes and brace. “I am sorry. I got carried away and didn’t set an alarm.” He replied sheepishly, rubbing absentmindedly at the back of his neck.
Jayce was a blushing mess having seen way more skin of Viktor’s than ever before. They’ve seen each other in various states of undress over the years from staying in the same room for conferences, Viktor visiting him at the forge, or even just a hot summer’s day when the lab’s air conditioning broke their second year together, but nothing feels this intimate. Jayce shakes his head out of his stupor and Vikor cocks an eyebrow at him suspiciously.
“I have coffee ready for us when you’re ready to go!” Jayce exclaimed, voice reaching higher than his normal register as he beelined it out of the office. Viktor teased him saying he couldn’t run away fast enough, but then returned to his work as well.
The next time the bed got used it was a bit more interesting. Another late night in the lab except it was both of them staying. At this time Jayce had just started seeing Mel, but he didn’t want to let Viktor do all of the work. “Jayce you’re drooling on your notes, just go to the bed.” Viktor instructs rolling his eyes at his best friend’s antics. He made the mistake of being in arm’s reach of sleepy Jayce. Jayce’s arms snaked around his midsection as Jayce rubbed his face into Viktor’s stomach. “Mmmm not without you, beautiful.” He mumbled, voice thick and low with sleep.
It caused an unpredicted reaction in Viktor’s psyche. He relished in the sleep-addled words that could not be meant for him, and tried to drag Jayce into the office, still attached and stumbling at his side. He was able to wrangle the other large man against his will, but was stopped from leaving the bedside by a pathetic whisper of “Stay..” from Jayce.
With that prayer, he let himself be pulled into the bed. He felt Jayce’s hands on him and it was too much, and too little all at once. He guided Jayce’s hands to the buttons of his shirt and felt Jayce kiss and bite at his exposed neck. A moan worked its way up his throat before being punched out as Jayce bit the same sensitive spot again. Viktor relished in the attention Jayce gave him. Viktor felt as Jayce’s kisses slowed and stopped as the other man fell asleep and he peeled himself out of the bed and headed back to his home in shame.
The next morning Jayce strolled out of the office to see Viktor already there and hunched over his work station. “Good morning!” He called out having slept extremely well.
Viktor sighed and turned to him, ready to face the music. “About last night…” He started but was cut off by Jayce’s eagerness, “I had the most wonderful dream Vik! I was sitting there kissing Mel and having the time of my life, but I can’t for the life of me remember how it ended!”
Viktor blinked very slowly at Jayce and moved the collar of his shirt to show the hickeys Jayce had left, beautiful and red against his skin. Jayce’s floundering was evident as he steps closer to him pointing at the hickeys, “DID YOU HAVE THOSE BEFORE?? Why didn’t you wake me?!”
“I thought you were awake.” Vikor supplied blush evident on his features.
