“Okay, uh… listen Neeks, I— I wanted to invite you as my other best man to my wedding with Annie…!”
Nico just hummed, a little amused at Percy’s nervousness over the phone.
Percy and Annabeth had been dating since pretty much the age of fifteen, and they had announced their wedding shortly after getting engaged.
Despite the fact that Percy is four years older than him, and the embarrassing crush he used to have on him, and the inevitable falling out they ended up having when Nico ran off from camp at the age of fourteen, they still managed to somehow build things back up again.
Somehow… and it was mainly due to Percy’s insistence on it.
“It’s alright, I’m happy for you, anyway, are there any specific rules to be followed…?”
Nico asked Percy over the phone, amused as to what the two demigods decided as ground rules for their wedding.
“Oh shoot! Wait-! I’ve got the list somewhere…. There! Found it!”
Nico could hear the sound of rummaging over the phone on Percy’s end of the line.
“Okay, I’ll just tell them to you… the only person wearing white will be Annie… no little kids allowed, except Estelle… and, uh… alcoholic drinks will be served after the ceremony… that’s it.”
“I wasn’t expecting you two to be so laidback when it comes to wedding planning, that’s new.”
“Oh! If you say that then I can’t wait for you to see the venue Annie picked! It was a whole ordeal!”
The two of them continued to talk over the phone, catching up, to put it simply, to see how changed their lives are now.
Suddenly, Nico heard Percy speak up.
“Uh… if you want, you can bring a plus one, Nico.”
Silence.
Only the slight shuffling sound could be heard from Percy’s line over the phone.
Filling the silence between the two of them.
“Uh… Nico…? I didn’t mean to sound rude, I-”
“It’s alright Percy, I actually have a boyfriend… I can tell him to accompany me to the wedding.”
“Ohhh! Okay! So… you and… what’s his name…? Solace…? Right?”
There was another beat of silence.
This time more tense, Percy chuckled nervously over the phone.
“No.”
“Don’t bring up that name ever again. You understand me, Percy? Do. Not.”
A sigh could be heard from Percy’s lips.
“Lemme guess…. He’s an asshole? Toxic? Manipulative? Also, wasn’t he like older than you anyway?”
Nico just hums in response.
And Percy takes that as a yes to everything he just said about Nico’s ex-boyfriend.
“…And, your current boyfriend…?”
A chuckle can be heard escaping from Nico’s lips.
“His name is Toby, and remember when I ran away from camp for so long? That’s how we met, he’s nice, kind, and funny, tall as hell with no filter whatsoever.”
“Aww! I’m happy for you Neeks, but I seriously did not need to know how tall he is…”
“Heh, sorry.”
The two of them laughed, and kept on talking without a care until Percy asked Nico a question.
“Hazel… does she know…?”
“No, I’ll have to break the news to her at the wedding, but I’m not so sure of her reaction…”
“Shit, that sucks Nico, you sure you won’t be uncomfortable at my wedding…? I mean—”
“Percy.”
“No. I’m going to be fine, don’t fuss over me all of the sudden…”
“My bad, my bad, Neeks, I’m glad you’re okay.”
“Thank you, Percy.”
“Have a good night, Nico!”
“Good night, Percy.”
